Q: Can nontraditional students live in student housing with their families?
You know those apartments at reduced prices, close to but off of campus that they rent out to college students as "student housing" Some of them have several bedrooms and would be just as ideal for a family as for roomates. Would they rent these to nontraditional students with families or are they only for the younger crowd?

A: My campus has family housing for grad students and non-traditional undergraduate students as well. It's on campus, but at the edge, near major routes into downtown.

Q: Do i have to pay water and lighting for student housing?
or does the school pay for all that?? what is student housing exactly and what do i have to pay for besides rent? is student housing just like a dorm just not in the school???

A: You pay rent and that covers lighting, water, cleaning, etc. You must pay for your own food, etc. Student housing is generally a reference to school-supplied housing, such as a dorm. However, some schools use it to describe apartments owned by the university and rented to students, much like a dorm.

Q: Can someone explain student housing to me?
If I'm attending community college (that's very close to a university) am I not allowed to apply for the student housing at the university, even if I am a student?

A: Erm, unless you go to a community college with special arrangements, the university housing is for university students only. I would look in the website to double check, but I'm certain that on-campus housing is for admitted students. But on the flip side, it's not like on-campus housing is cheaper than off-campus housing. Why not look into finding a roommate (since it's close to a uni anyway) and split the rent. You'll make out like a fat rat that way. Dorms are overpriced and have mandatory cafeteria meal plans attached to them.

Q: Alcohol or not alcohol in student housing?
Dear all, Do you think alcohol should be free to use in the student housing on the campus of universities? Our school has a policy against the use of alcohol in its entire student housing including residence halls, apartment complex for single students and apartments for married students and students with children. However, recently there have been some requests made to the student housing as to allow the use of alcohol in only apartments for married students and they are now discussing as to whether or not they should allow it. Thanks for sharing your opinion in this regard.

Q: I want to become a student housing landlord, how do I go about it?
about how much money do you think i would need to begin? i live in upstate ny around syracuse. I'm interested in starting, but want to find out exactly how much everything would cost and what license and all i need. thanks

A: There's no way to calculate how much it would cost without knowing the purchase price of the properties you want to buy. You buy the property, you rent it out. This is how you should calculate your "cash-flow" (Rent amount) x .75 (75%) ___________ (gross rent) - (mortgage pmt) ____________ (net cashflow) You use 75% because you need to account for maintenance costs and vacancy factors

Q: What are the popular student housing areas near Hyderabad University,?
what are the rent charges for these?

A: Hyderabad University is located in the Western part of the city. The university provides hostel facilities for all out station students but not for those residing in the city. There are 10 hostels available out of which 3 are for girls and 7 are for boys. The monthly costs for a room in Hyderabad University, popularly known as the Central University hostel, would be a maximum of Rs.1500 per person without food and laundry. The costs vary according to the subject and the year of course you are pursuing. Each room is shared by two students.

Q: What are some helpful sites to find student loans for school & housing?
I don't expect to get very much from FASFA, since my mom & stepdad make a lot of money, but since I pay for my own school & housing, I am going to need a student loan. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find student loans for school & housing?

A: Hi, Ah yes, you're in a pretty common predicament - too much family income to qualify for some of the money out there. Since you are now or will be paying your own way, you're going to need some ways to document your situation. It can be done, however I would suggest going for scholarship and grants (it's possible), rather than loans. Try http://www.collegecashplace.com for tons of info and links to raising the money you need for school. Good luck!

Q: Can you get housing benifit if you are a student?
I'd like to go back to uni next year but wouldnt be keen on giving up my flat and going back to sharing with random people. Are students eligible for housing benifits to help out with part of their rent?

A: Generaly no. The exceptions are parents of young children and people with disabilities. The system we have at the moment doesn't help those of us that are going to be bring in lots of money for the econmy after we graduate. If your in doubt have a word with the residences office at the uni or at a Citizens Advice place. Some people can also get a loan or grant to cover living costs while at uni or you could chose part time study and work some of the time.

Q: Did housing market affect private student loans?
I saw that many private student loan compaies stopped offering student loans to 2 year colleges and some got out of the market all together. Is this directly related to the housing crisis? If so, then why not also bail people out of their massive student loan debt if they're gonna help people with their houses? I don't see how it's anyone elses fault other than the people who got the housing loans. I couldn't figure out what section this question belonged in so I made an educated guess.

A: That would be the "two wrongs make a right" contention. No, they're not directly related, but the credit markets are all skittish about higher risk lending, so indirectly they feed on one another.
