Q: Does anyone know of any scholarship summer programs for HS students to travel overseas?
Hi there, I am trying to find some scholarship programs that would allow for students with good grades or low income High School students to travel overseas for the summer, weather it would be through volunteering or doing some sort of an academic program (i.e. Learning about the history of some country like Italy or France.) I've heard of such programs in the past, where students got to go to another country to study things they have interests in hands on, and for free, but I've been unsuccessful in finding them online. Does anyone knows any or perhaps has done any of these types of programs? Thank you.

A: AFS grants scholarships to top students, so contact them and see if you qualify. Here is a list of other study abroad agencies that may also offer scholarships: http://www.macquil.com/abroad.php Good Luck! :)

Q: What are the best financial aid programs for nontraditional students.?
I'm 24, married and a mother. I'm also pretty broke. Any scholership programs and grants are good too. I asked the financial aid office at the school but they are so busy I didn't get much of an answer. I also live in Nebraska. I don't know where to begin looking. Thanks!

A: Hmm...I receive financial aid right now but its because of my income... If you make under 40k and you have kids you should be eligible for financial aid. Try to talk to a financial Representative at the school again and let them know your information....sorry I dont have an answer you want Also, a good place to check is... http://www.BestFinancialAid.info/ Best of luck to you.

i dont have any experience , so so mething that doesnt requiere any special knowledge

A: The UN does have volunteers - see http://www.unvolunteers.org - however they do require a university degree and related experience. If you're interested in volunteering with other programs in developing countries, see lots of opportunities listed at http://www.goabroad.com and http://www.transitionsabroad.com and http://www.idealist.org. Many programs do not require any special experience or knowledge.

How did you feel when it came time for you to go back to school? Did your feelings about school change as you got older? In your opinion, do you think after-school proprams can help students relieve their stress from school?

A: well it was so long ago for me, but I,d say a big YES on that one, like soccer, you can take the days classes out on kicking the ball.

Q: What are good employment programs for students in Atlanta?
Student Jobs

A: Ask your school counselor. They should be aware of all student job opportunities in your area.

Q: How does band or other music programs help students in high school?

A: The study of music opens your mid. It transends l;anguage barriers. It's culturally enlightening if you study any music from another culture. Old folk songs tell stories of the past so you can gain some historical perspective. Music just makes the whole world go around.

Q: how can i find low housing for college students? where can i find programs for this?
im a student looking to move out on my own but i dont make alot of money. i would like to live by myself but i dont know of programs college students can get on that will help them with low housing, in emeryville,ca berkeley ca, or oakland ca.

Q: How can we identify students for the Gifted, Creative, or Talented Programs?
How can we accurately identify students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds as eligible for Gifted, Creative, or Talented Programs?

A: This all depends on age, of course, but I'm assuming you mean somewhere from 6 to 17 years of age. -Entrance tests: Of course, the students don't like these much, but sometimes that's the only way you can get a definitive answer. -Teacher recommendations: Teachers often notice if their students excel, and they're less biased than parents. -Grades: Grades don't always tell you if a student is smart, just that they work hard, but sometimes that's something you want in a student. -What classes they're already taking in school: Even in elementary school there are sometimes different levels of classes. If they're in the highest math, that should tell you right off that they're smart.

Q: Does anyone know of any fellowship or scholarship summer programs for HS students to travel overseas?
Hi there, I am trying to find some scholarship programs that would allow for students with good grades or low income High School students to travel overseas for the summer, weather it would be through volunteering or doing some sort of an academic program (i.e. Learning about the history of some country like Italy or France.) Does anyone knows any or perhaps has done any of these types of programs? Thank you.

A: Visit this site. It has some stuff, but if you want more stuff, you should be a little more specific, such as places you'd want to see, how far you'd want to travel, how you'd want to get there, etc...

Q: What are the best creative writing programs for high school students?
My daughter, 16, has mentioned Interlochen, and a summer program at the University of Iowa. I know there are many programs, but don't know how to choose amoung them. Which have the best reputations? Thanks.

A: I don't know anything about the Iowa program, but Interlochen is fantastic. Many of the summer creative writing faculty members teach at the college level during the school year. The Creative Writing program at Interlochen is housed in a new building on campus called The Writing House, which is the first and only facility in the country designed specifically for high school writers. One cool thing about Interlochen is that there are over 2,000 students there in the summer studying music, film, visual arts, theatre, dance, etc. so there's a lot creative, artsy people around, and many opportunities to attend performances and exhibitions

Q: Interventions or programs for ethnically diverse students experiencing tensions?
I'm working on a psychology assignment; There is a hypothetical school where the students are "experiencing severe tensions around differences". I need to find three programs or interventions based on psychological research that will help alleviate the problems. I've already written about the "eye-color racism" experiment of Jane Elliott, and so I only need two more. Does anyone know of any other programs, backed by a psychological study, that I can use?

A: What about using Pavlov? Yes, he worked with dogs, but if dogs can be conditioned to salivate, couldn't people be conditioned to experience "tensions?" I think we're all conditioned by our elders/peers as to what we feel/think/understand about our differences. Do your own study and use that as a base....Perhaps find what the students assume or what makes them have these tense feelings, say they think that people with long fingernails can't tie shoes properly. Then have 10 people with long finger nails tie their shoes properly...

Q: Are there any financial aid programs to help students paying their rent while in school?
I am going back to school and have a very good job but since I need some time off in order to go to school I am predicting that it might be a little tough to also include rent in my expenses. I am very good at budgeting so I think I would be fine but anyone have an idea of how I can maybe knock a little off rent? I am also using loan that was previously opened from my last school to help this round if that helps anything. I wouldnt mind spending a little more on the loan and pay it back later if I could just spend a little on my living sittuation now. I dont want to do the roomate thing again. I really want to concentrate on school with no distractions. Thanks for you help!

A: In the United States, if you attend at least Half-Time (6+ semester credit hours) then you are entitled to financial aid funds to help cover living expenses, but not beyond the extent of your "estimated cost of attendance" would allow for. Check with the financial aid office at the school you are going to be attending and they should be able to give you clear information about it.

Q: How effective do you feel that Head Start and other early learning programs are for young students?
What qualifications should teachers that work with such programs have? Should they have a B.S. in Early Childhood Education or an Associates Degree?

A: I think it is wonderful for young kids to be exposed to books, and other educational materials at a young age without a lot of pressure from grades. It would be great to have teachers with degrees, however, I do think caring adults without degrees can do a wonderful job with kids this young as well.

Q: How do I get money to take 50 students on a Ropes Course?Anyone know of any funding programs for classrooms?
I teach a group of students that need a little extra help in school. As a way to build their own confidence as well as connect them to our learning team, I want them to participate in Ropes Course. I did this course and it was an amazing experience. I am looking for $1,000 to be able take the students through this same adventure. It will be beneficial for them personally and academically. Does anyone know of any charitable or grant programs for the classroom?

A: Get the community involved have a car wash and a bake sale and maybe have the kids get some things together so you can have a yard sale and that way they can make there own money.
