Q: What percentage usually of the current student population to nursing schools usually recruit each semester?
I was asking from a nursing school the number of total students in their nursing department out of the3500 students on their campus, and they only replied back that they accept 68 intakes twice per year for adult nursing and 26 intakes twice per year for mental health nursing. So , in your estimation, how many nursing students do you they have in total at this campus?? Thanks for your answers! Okay, sorry, the question should have read, "What percentage , usually, of the current student population DO nursing schools usually recruit each semester?" (typing error)

A: Wha? Yikes, go back and put those words in order and maybe we can understand your question a little better. This is like one of those jumble puzzles.

Q: Why on the FAFSA form do they want my parents information if i am a nursing student?
I will be 24 so i will be independent according to FAFSA so i do not need my parents info but it said id i was a medical student or nursing student i may want to. Why is that? and what happens if i do or don't include their info. Personally i don't want to since its more work but i will put in the work if i get more money.

A: There is a loan called the health professions loan that is lower interest than some of the other federal loans. You have to provide your parents' info to get it though. If you think you'll be needing loans, then it might be a good idea. All that will happen if you don't put their info in is that you will not be offered that particular loan. If you don't think you'll need any laon money though, then don't worry about it.

Q: how do I apply for a nursing degree as a mature student with little experience in the caring professions?
I've been considering a nursing career for a long time but have little 'care' experience to shout about on my ucas form (ucas is the uk university applications service) and I don't know what my best course of action should really be. I've begun applying for care assistant work but I'd ideally like to do nursing auxillary/assistant work however I understand that it's difficult to even get an interview for most positions going! So are there any student nurses (esp mature students) who can give me a few pointers out there? How did you get into it and what can I do to increase my chances of successful application?? Thanks in advance for your help!

A: How about applying for the nursing degree? If you are able to make an appointment with the dean or assistant dean, please bring all your credentials. Please explain to the dean/ asst. dean that it has been your lifelong dream to become one (do elaborate). Also, point out that you have your maturity to bring into your practice, that you can look at the situation differently outside the classroom setting (it helps if you can give examples of this). Good luck.

Q: ***Attention Nursing Students!!!*** Will you answer a few questions for a pre-nursing student?
I need to interview some full-time nursing students for a class assignment... I would greatly appreciate your answers to these questions! 1) How has being in nursing school different than what you expected? 2) What is the most challenging aspect of being a nursing student for you? 3) What is the best part about being a nursing student for you? 4) What advice would you give to pre-nursing students about what to do before entering nursing school? 5) What are your best survival tips for surviving in a nursing program? Thanks!

A: 1) I expected being in a class full of females would be a challenge. Turns out they are all very nice. Also, it is harder work than I expected. Memorizing all the drugs and how they work and why they work and side effects and dosages.....hard work. 2) Most challenging, writing the papers. They are not like english papers. They are so much more different. I finally figured out how to write a good "nursing" paper, and in APA formatting, after failing two. 3) The reward is felt every day that you are on the unit in the clinical practicum, when you are actually out there making patients better. 4) I would say to make sure that you have self-motivation. No one is there to help you, especially the profs. There is a weeding out at the beginning where you get little to no help. If you can make it through that you are set. But ya, having self-directed motivation and initiative is key! 5) Rather than memorize information, learn HOW something works. For example: It makes much more sense to analyze what the symptoms of COPD are by knowing WHAT COPD is, as opposed to just memorzing symptoms and trying to keep everything straight. If you have any other questions please feel free to email me.

Q: More info to become a better Nursing Student?
I'm a third year nursing student and I'm trying to review all the things that I have learn in the past, but it seems like I keep on forgetting a few things. What I want to know is if there is a free site that has those kind of detail for me to learn. From cells to diseases including bone fractures, this would really help me. Thank you.

A: I in nursing school as well. The one thing that has helped me is a website www.allnurses.com. It is free to sign up and they have tons of forums. There are forums from nursing students to male nursing to help with any questions you may have regarding anything related to nursing. It is a free site, you should check it out! The support is great. Also the best way I look up things I learned in the past is that I have been keeping notes and not selling back books that contain important information. Good luck!!

Q: What is the best health care plan for student while attending medical school, like nursing?
I'm a student nursing and ASAP need some health insurance, including Emergency Room coverage. Does anyone know any type of Health Insurance for medical student like that, affordable and reliable? Greatly appreciate and thanks to all,

A: Best is coverage under your parents' health insurance. Most goes to age 23 as long as you are a full-time student. Otherwise contact the school and see what is offered to students in general - many provide access to this coverage. Avoid emergency rooms. A visit can be as much as $1,000 for routine (unneeded) care.

Q: Can someone out there who is a nurse/nursing student help me in obtaining a SOAPIE format for a deformed penis
I am a nursing student who needs some help. I know that the SOAPIE format is outdated, but for my school/teacher he wants me to do a SOAPIE format on this patient that I have. He also has problems with urinating, low self-esteem, cannibus dependant, diabetic and hypotension. I need some assistance if someone wouldn't mind helping me with. Thank You So Much.

A: Cathie, e-mail me with all the information you have here and any more that wouldn't fit in the space allowed. I need a nursing version of an H&P. I haven't done SOAPIEs in years. This should be fun. I'm at nurselmh@sbcglobal.net

Q: Nursing student about to get a tattoo?
Hey everyone, Im a male nursing student but Im about to get a tattoo on my left rib of two intertwined wings with three banners each with my little brothers, moms and dads name on individual banners. Im wondering if this will cripple my chances of getting a job when I graduate although I hear male nurses can get a job right off the bat. The tattoo can be covered when I wear scrubs so I dont know what the big deal would be.

A: Unless you intend to work without a shirt, I'm not sure how anyone could tell you have any work. Most of my coworkers don't know I have anything. Even if you did have something visible, I wouldn't worry too much. It might be tougher for a doctor, but even that will depend on location. Last time I was in for a physical the nurse had a well done sleeve and we ended up talking ink until the doctor arrived. We west coasties tend to be chill in that way. :)

I am signing up at a community college near my home in Maryland and I am a little nervous about taking classes. I don't know much about nursing except when my aunt tells me how they do their jobs and she is a nurse herself. I want to follow in her footsteps. What are some searchable sites I can look into and get some ideas about getting into nursing?

A: Why don't you volunteer at a hospital or blood bank or other agency where you will get some exposure to nursing? That way you will have a much better ideal of your chosen field. It would also help you understand the clinical classes that much better.
