Q: Looking for advice on Online LPN to RN programs?
I'm seriously considering getting my RN and my CWCA wound certification. I have found an online course for the wound care certification but I am still a little curious as to how the online LPN to RN programs work if clinical hours are required and if local sites are available if anyone has done one of these please let me know which one you used and if you were satisfied with the program

A: You take the course through an online program, but yes clinical work can be done locally. It seems more and more people are taking this route. But you should also check with local universities and compare them to the online option. Look at cost and time to complete. I would also recommend if you are currently working where you plan to work after completing your RN if they will pay for any of the schools and if they have any preference's. Online vs local university. As far as which schools, I believe Indian State University offers a program online with local clinicals.

Q: I graduate from a private LPN program in a few weeks. Does anyone know if the on-line RN programs are....?
I'm looking for an RN program to jump into right away and I've heard of programs like Excelsior etc. Does anyone know if they are legit? If so, which one [s]

A: Contact your state board of nursing.

Q: Know of any RN Diploma programs that r 2 yrs long AND the 1st yr is ONLY general education & 2nd yr is nursing?
i have found 2 year rn diploma programs but they have the 'general education' courses and the nursing courses integrated/combined. i was wondering if there was any RN DIPLOMA program that had them separate??? thanks.

A: Try ivytech.edu. Looks like you'll wind up with a few health-related courses the first year, but the second is all nursing. Locals can go from "zero" to "degree" for about 10-grand, too.

Q: Nurses and Nursing students: What are the top RN-BSN programs in the country?
I already know about Duke, Villanova, Yale, John Hopkins, and Oregon Health Sciences University, but are there any more?

A: There are many excellent nursing programs in the US as you have mentioned. Most of the comparisons of nursing programs - when they are discussed as being the top nursing programs in the country - they are comparing the nursing graduate school programs. As far as the BSN degree most schools provide a reasonably equivalent education. It is certainly not a significant enough difference to move across the country at the BSN level. However, as far as nursing programs in any given state it is usually a good idea to check with the state board to find the reported success rates on the NCLEX-RN examination. If you are considering getting a masters or especially a doctoral degree, the quality of the nursing program can make a difference. However, in most cases, when looking for a graduate program, you look for the nursing graduate school which has the highest rating in the specific specialty in which you are interested. For example, if you were interested in Nurse Anesthesia you might look at joining the Army as the US Army Nurse Anesthesia program has, most consistently, been rated in the top 3 programs in the US. Overall, the one school considered to have the best overall nursing programs is the University of California-San Francisco. Though each of the schools you mentioned is excellent in their own right.

Q: Need help with RN programs with Hospitals, community colleges, and 4 year universities?
I currently have a Bachelors degree in Business Administration however, I want to become an RN because I need to help people. I have read a little about diploma programs through hospitals, and have also thought about going back to school community college or 4 year universities to become an RN. However, the problem is I have a wife and two little girls 19 months and 3 weeks and still need to make an income. I would very much like a diploma program at a hospital to get hands on experience. I guess what I am asking is whether anyone has become an RN through the hospital? If those programs still exist? If so do any hospitals between bloomington and Terre Haute, IN offer them? If not then what would be the next route to becoming an RN?

A: You will get plenty of hands-on experience whether you are in a diploma program or an associates or bachelors program. Any accredited RN program will include many hours of clinical experiences in hospitals and other health care settings. Since you already have a bachelors in another field, you may want to look into second-degree BSN programs for people with non-nursing degrees. I think IU has one. They are intense, 1-2 year programs that get you a bachelors and make you eligible to become a RN. Unfortunately, you may not be able to work much or at all during that time due to the rigorous schedule, but there are usually loans or other forms of financial aid available to help with tuition and living expenses.

Q: What is the fastest way to obtain an RN degree for someone who already has a BS?
I have a BS in chemistry and would like to become an RN. What would be the fastest way to do this? I know that there are accelerated BSN programs that take about one year, but what about accelerated RN programs? If a BSN program confers an RN degree along the way, then that would be an option, but I'm not sure that it does, nor do I particularly want another bachelor's degree if it is not needed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A: I know it sounds weird by try your local community college. Since they usually specialize in certificate programs, and associate degrees they usually have lots of options on how to obtain your RN. Good Luck!

Q: Have you heard of any programs where the hospital pays for you to go to college to become an RN or CNA?
I want to go to college to become an RN. I have heard that some hospitals will allow you to work for them and pay for you to go to school, is this true? If so how do I go about it?

A: My daughter's boyfriend got a 2 year nursing degree at a community college and because he was also an EMT, he started as an ER nurse. Then he changed to a university affiliated hospital in the state capital as the university gives you free tuition if you work for them. So he has been taking his bachelor's degree at no cost. However, you need to get the initial 2 year degree on your own first.
