Q: Am I going to have a hard time getting accepted to PhD programs at Harvard, Yale or Columbia if....?
Am I going to have a hard time getting accepted to PhD programs at Harvard, Yale or Columbia if I went to college for an MA in Canada? It's a college in Canada that isn't that well known. But on the plus side, I got excellent grades, a great thesis and great letters of recommendation. What do you think? The Programs I'd like to apply to are in the Humanities.
-Helena
A: It depends on who you know and how much money you have. The best of the best are denied in those schools. Try and good luck.
Q: In general, are applied mathematics PhD programs less selective than pure math PhD programs?
I would assume that most people who want to get PhDs in math are the hardcore purist types (that could be because of the composition of the math deparmtent where I am currently studying) and that most people who go to graduate school in math are interested in academic tracks. Am I right?
A: No. The professor I worked with on my senior thesis in fact did both - one in number theory and he was completing one in error correcting codes. He believed they were equally difficult and just as hard to get into. The issue is, is your math good enough?
My professor in Operations Research had a professional doctorate (not a PhD) in operations research and was a head honcho at IBM for many years. He tended to look down on mere PhD's - applied or otherwise.
Thanks
Bill
Q: What university and where are all of the neoropsychology PhD programs in the US?
A: I know it is one of those advertising links but there are a couple of schools to consider.
The most definitive source, though, is the American Psychological Association link. It has some websites but you will have to copy and paste to use them.
Q: what are the canadian universities that offer phd programs and accredit phoenix online univeristy?????
I need a list of the canadian universities who offer phd programs in business (accredited universities) and who accredit Phoenix online university. Please take it seriously :)
A: Canada has a system of controlled education. Here private education like India is not flourishing at all. The Phoenix university is a crap as it is American has no value in the job market.
Canadian Universities and Colleges are all of excellent standard, u just need to see what u want to do and in which area u want to live in. As this is a big country with plenty of country side, lots of people hate living around the villages or green belt. But that's your individual choice. You can find all information about Canadian university www.studycanda.ca or if u are in India u can get information from the nearest CEC.
Q: When do you start applying for Graduate schools (PhD programs)?
People tell me different things and I'm not sure who to believe :/ Anybody feel like giving me a summary/timeline-ish sort of thing?
Thank you for the responses so far, but I'm looking really for more specific answers, like particular months that applications are usually accepted. Yes, I've researched online specific schools, but others have told me that many people apply much later in their senior year.
And for the record, I'm only a sophomore undergrad, so it's not nearly too late for anything. I'm just trying to get a sense of when I need to take my GREs.
A: Well it's just like when you prepared for undergraduate. You apply during the last year of college if you're planning on going for your PhD right after undergraduate school. Some people obtain a Master's degree first, if that's your situation, you need to apply before the deadline of the program that you want to get into. If you're planning on starting in the fall of 09, you probably should have gotten started back in November or so. But, it's never to late. You need to look into the program and find out what information is needed by the deadline.
Q: Online PhD programs for new media and education?
I'm interested in new technologies and how they are/may be used in education. I like thinking about and using the tools, but I'm really interested in digging into their useability, and how they fit into or expand current thinking about various pedagogical models.
A: I would look into a credible, established private or state college. There are many online ONLY programs, but i would stay away from these. they CLAIM to be accredited, but the agencies that accredit them are sometimes paid by them!!! Not to mention, if you tried to transfer credits from say, the University of Pheonix, and online college, to the University of Arizona, they in all likelihood would NOT accept the credits, because they don't see the collge courses you took online as valid. So, like I said, look into a good private or state college. It might cost more, it might even be more inconvenient.....but in the end, it will serve you better.
Q: What sort of GRE scores are PhD programs in library science looking for?
I'm thinking of applying to top schools: UIUC, UNC-CH, Syracuse, Rutgers. How competitive do I have to be :)?
A: Probably not very competitive. A friend of mine got into a top MLS program with less than a 3.0 and not-so-great GRE scores.
Q: Is Touro University International nice for PhD programs, particularly in education?
Is it accredited? What of their lecturers - are they well qualified?
A: It is accredited, an offers a purely online PhD.
Q: where can i find gre score ranges that phd programs are looking for?
if i cannot find it in a specific school's literature...
A: You can ask the Director of Graduate Studies in the department to which you are applying. S/he may or may not have an answer for you, since many programs do not have a specific GRE range, but consider each application as a whole.
Q: Which universities are nice, less expensive, and accredited for online PhD programs in education?
The reason for the question is because I,m interested in doing an online PhD program in education.
A: The so called University of Phoenix is pure fake and rubbish. Anyone with this so called degree would not get employed in Europe that for sure. I have complained to Yahoo for letting then advertise on Yahoo. Before you sign up with any Universities make sure that there degrees are accredited by your local state.
Q: What are some good PhD programs for theology and practice or religion and psychology studies?
A: I'd highly recommend Union Theological Seminary in NY, and Graduate Theological Union in CA. Both have extremely strong doctoral programs in theology and practice, and in religion and psychology.
