Q: How would a computer science degree effect a career as a police officer?
I'm planning on getting a B.S. in Computer Science, but I'm thinking about becoming a police officer once I graduate. I've enjoyed all my CS classes to this point, but a law enforcement career has always been enticing to me. How would this degree be looked at when I apply for a job?
Side note: My school doesn't offer a plain criminal justice degree. It is a 4 year sociology degree with maybe two criminal justice classes thrown in.
A: I suggest you talk to your local law enforcement. My friend was like you, but she wound up changing her major to law enforcement. She went down to the local station, said she was interested in law enforcement as a career and they let her ride around with an officer for a day, so it really helped her in her decision as to if she should go into that field or not. I know you said your school doesn't offer a criminal justice degree, but have you considered changing schools? Computer science is great, if you love and want to do that. However, I feel that it might not be the best major for a law enforcement career.
Best of luck to you in your decision though!
Q: What can you do with a social science degree besides teach?
I'm currently a sophomore about to graduate from a community college. I will transfer to a four-year school as a junior and pursue a bachelor's in Social Science. I originally chose this to teach but the more I think about it the less I want to do it.
What else can you do with a Social Science degree? Thanks!
A: You can be a case manager for a social services agency or you can get your MSW and be the program manager of a social service agency. You can probably teach high school, but to teach at a higher level you will need the terminal degree in your field, plus significant research experience.
Q: How do I find a job with a Science degree major in chemistry?
I have my science degree but not much experience in the workforce. I have been knocked back many times cause pp say I don't have enough experience. How do I go about getting one of these jobs if noone is willing to give me a shot? Thanks
A: YOU TRY JOB IN MEDICAL AGENCIES. MARKETING OF MEDICINES
Q: What can a person do with Psychology or a biogical science degree?
What can a person do with a psychology degree and with a biogical science degree if they don't get accepted to medical degrees I mean did that person just waste their time in that degree and now can't do anything with it.
A: You are asking, essentially, if doing clinical work is the only career path of someone with a biology or psychology degree. The answer is no. In fact, most people with these degrees do not go into clinical work.
If one did choose the clinical route (what you refer to as medical degree), these degrees include the M.D. and the D.O. degree if you plan to be a physician. Or a multitude of other degrees that include various types of nurses, as well as physicians assistants, etc. Psychology majors could get a doctorate in clinical psychology if they wanted to do clinical work.
Most people with biological or psychology backgrounds, however, do not go into clinical work, they go into research, teaching or both. This is the PhD degree and is designed for someone who wants to devote their career to making significant scholarly contributions to their chosen degree. Most college professors who are doctors have PhDs, unless they are a professors in a medical school- and even many of them are PhDs, not MDs.
To find out the things you can do with a biology or psychology degree other than clinical practice, I suggest you visit the web pages of several universities. Then go to the faculty pages and look at the research background of the faculty in those departments. You might be quite taken back by the diverse opportunities.
Q: Do I need a political science degree to start an MA in political science?
I have a bachelor's degree in English Literature. And I want to start a master's degree in Political Science. Do i need an undergraduate degree in Political Science?. I heard some don't require it but ask for taking prior courses.
A: Many people do MAs in subjects other than their BA major. So, no, you don't need your BA in Poli.sci. to do an MA. Your English Lit degree will be more than adequate.
Q: Where and how can I do a postgraduate degree in medicine without an undergraduate science degree?
My undergraduate degree is Modern History at Oxford and I was wondering if it would be possible to do a full medical postgraduate course even though my background is not in science? Would it be necessary to do any extra courses (eg: Biology and Chemistry A level or foundation science)? How long would the postgraduate course take?
A: I am pretty sure that you can do medicine as a four year course instead of full length six year course. These degrees are for graduates like yourself - normally the degree doesn't have to be science based however at Oxford (you also need an A-Level Chemistry) it does have to be.

Q: What careers are available with a political science degree?
I'm majoring in political science and minoring in criminal justice. Im still not too sure if i want to go pre-law so i made sure to try and minor in something that would still be able for me to have more options. Besides becoming a lawyer, i have no clue what other careers are out there for this degree.
A: There arent many jobs specifically related to political science, but there are many jobs for liberal arts majors. Thats the problem with liberal arts degrees--there are so broard and general that its hard to know where to begin looking. Sorry if this answer doesnt help--I have done tons of research on every liberal arts major imaginable and they all say you can do anything. Basically, you are not specialized.
Q: What is the difference between a Bachelors of Science Degree and a Bachelors of Arts Degree?
I am in the midst of obtaining my degree in business administration and am currently in debate about changing my college but when I inquired about completing my degree at the new college they only offered a Bachelors of Science Degree while my current college offers a Bachelors of Art Degree.
Can someone explain the difference?
A: one is the equivalent of the other, as far as level of education goes. amaretta was right in saying that some degrees are exclusively BS and some are BA, but it's not that simple.
for example, if you want a BA in psychology, you need to take X number of classes. but if you want a BS in psych, then you need to take X number of classes, but you need to take more scientifically-minded classes. ie, more neuroscience and statistical classes instead of psych of madness or psych in lit.
a BS is typically more difficult to get, but not necessarily more prestigious. your profs might say so, but no one else gives a shit. but as for this particular school that only offers one instead of the other, it means that your degree will be a bit more difficult. look at what the degree requires from each school, that'll tell you.
Q: I am currently studying a Forensic Science degree and I wish to become a pathologist?
I am currently studying a Forensic Science degree and I want to do pathology. I understand that I need to do a PhD before I can do my chosen career but I am a little concerned that i have should have done a medical degree instead. Does anyone know?
A: Yes you should have done a medical degree, it is the only way to become a pathologist.
Q: What jobs are available for someone with a science degree?
If I got a Maths and science degree. (Probably physics)
What jobs would be available to someone with these qualifications?
A: Work on your communication and sentence writing skills first!
Q: What can I do with a liberal arts science degree?
I am going to get my Liberal Arts Science degree(A.S) in Spring 2009 from Passaic County Community College but I don't know where can I start working, I mean in what kind of job?
A: Psychology..
Teaching......
Q: What job can I get with an Associate of Science degree in Physics?
I earned my A.S. in Physics and was wondering what type of jobs I could qualify for. Granted the intention of the associate of science is to transfer to a four year university, what, if any, jobs would value the degree?
A: technical assembly work is an ok place to start. With a BS you can work your way up from there. with an AS you just wont be able to get as far as fast. OF course it depends on your other job history.
Q: What kinds of jobs can you get with a Bachelor of Science degree?
Does it matter what the bachelor of science degree is...in? I'm thinking about going for a bachelor of science degree in Nutrition. So obviously being a "nutritionist" or "nutritional counselor" is a possibility...but are there any other possibilities outside of nutrition specifically with a bachelor of science?
A: With a BS degree, many fields are open to you. Government jobs, health fields, research, the list is endless. Don't just limit yourself to Nutrition. You've had science courses, probably math, and you don't have to become a teacher. Years ago, women could only get jobs as secretaries, teachers, nurses, and mothers. Think outside the box, you can be anything.
