A: There are tons of online programs. I personally attended American Intercontinental Univ. and Capella University, and I have taught for various online schools over the last five years. All are accredited and solid programs. Online courses tend to vary in price, so we could say they are more expensive, but that is relative. Of course they are more expensive than a community college, but less expensive than Harvard. The price range varies. The key is to find a program that is fully accredited. Is it worth it? YES. My career has boomed since my MBA at nearly 5 years ago. I am close to finishing my PhD through distance education, and I am at the job that I want. I know I wouldn’t be here without the education. If you are looking at work in the U.S., then you need a school that is accredited and recognized by the Dept of Ed. I can give more info on that later. You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

Q: Does an Online Degree have the same value as a tradtional one?
I am thinking of getting my Ph.d. in either Business Leadership or Organizational Communication, but the schools I am interested in are not in the places I want to live in and those that are do not have programs I am interested in learning. I mean there is an awesome school in Fargo but I happen to be a beach dweller and hate the snow. A: You're much better off going to a real school with a real campus. Employers want to know if you interact well with others and that can only come through membership in campus organizations and face-to-face interaction with the faculty. Plus - there are a lot of phony on-line universities that for a fee will give you a degree in the field of your choice complete with a phony transcript and you never have to do a lick of work. Employers know the names of these outfits so be careful. The Univ. of Phoenix is recognized as being legitimate however. And I find it difficult to believe there isn't a Sunbelt school that doesn't offer a degree in Organizational Communication.....that's one of the fastest-growing areas in the field of communication.

(READ THIS BEFORE ANSWERING PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I'm going to the military (CG) for the next four years and won't really be able to take regular classes because of how my schedule will be. So I want to take some online classes while I'm in and take as many classes as I can. I'm interested in becoming a doctor. Will medical schools accept a degree from a place like University of Phoenix? Or should I take online classes at a regular university? A: The answer above is correct, the lab requirement would kill your chances. Plus there's a real prejudice against online schools and medical school admissions are notoriously competitive.

If I have an associates degree in applied science healthcare-Billing and coding specialist that I got while attending herzing college online. Will it be harder to get a job? The technical school gave the technical diplomas for medical coding but not billing, no internship, and was also an online class. I wanted the knowledge of the billing and the internship. I did get a internship from herzing college online, but when I get my degree will I be able to get a job having an online degree.

A: It's not as hard as it used to be. For example, University of Phoenix and City University are starting to be more excepted by recruiters. They're still not as excepted as a traditional school, but people do recognize that this is a changing world and not everyone can attend a traditional school and these are great alternatives, because the teachers come from the real world so you're getting a great education. A: yes univ. of phoenix has a very good reputation.online ,so does univ. of new york(both have campuses and online)schools are the future trend as they save time and money in many ways,you don't have to commute or you can study in your pajamas,while eating cereal some students achieve higher grades when no interruptions,easier to organize assignments,less stress.and yes the degree is recognized.just make sure all the credits will transfer to a regular campus school.you have to be self motivated to do this online,which is the downside.

A: Make sure the school is accredited by a regional accrediting body (if you're talking about a US school). If they don't list who verifies them, check them out, but be very suspicious. It would probably be worthwhile getting one of John Bear's books on non-traditional schools. Oh, and most online programs are harder and take more work than live classes if they are any good.

A: You have many options. But it all depends upon what major you want. In any case, make certain the school is at least regionally accredited. Check on accreditation at http://www.chea.org Also, don't pay more than $250 per semester credit hour. If you do, you are only throwing away money.
