Q: Online Bachelor degree in 7 days...To good to be true?
I went onto a website and if i pay $449.00 they will send me a bachelor degree. It says i don't have to take any classes, i get the degree based on solid work experience. I spoke to a customer service representative and he said it is the same type of bachelor degree i would recieve from a university. This company has been around for more than 10 years so i know it's not a scam. Would employeers look at this the same way they would look at a bachelors degree from a college? What are the pros and cons about this? the program is on belforduniversity.com Please advise.

A: Of course that's not real. A bachelors degree takes 4 years to earn - and you're expected to learn something along the way. You'd be buying a piece of paper. They don't require any work experience - they'll sell it to you for making something up. No, it's not what you'd get from a university - those are accredited. These are not accredited by a real accrediting agency - which means they didn't prove they are offering a real education in any subject (because they aren't). Of course it's a scam - they've been scamming people for 10 years. It's a diploma mill, and claiming one of these on a resume as if it were a real diploma is considered fraud.

Q: Studying sociology online (bachelor degree)? Good or Bad idea?
The question is not about comparing the online system to the face to face teaching systems. But I would like to understand how important is for the study and research of sociology to be in a classroom with others and do some networking with your colleagues. I have a bachelor in Business Administration, I believe that for that field of studies creating a good network really helps you because right after graduation you already have friends working in some companies and they can refer to you when doing job search. But I feel (maybe I'm wrong) that to study sociology you can be behind your PC, reading like hell, exchanging ideas through these type of means (ie yahoo answers), in the library, etc. And all that at your own pace and in an Online course. What do you say?

A: I go for psychology online at university of phoenix and i love it its fun and you can work on your time. go for it!! oh yeah and since most companies require a bachelors in a social science right now it's a very good idea.

Q: I get a Bachelor degree online & someone else gets the same degree on campus who will the employer likely hire

A: There is academic research on this question and it shows a preference for the traditional degree when everything else is equal. I recall the question was Florida State online degree vs Florida State classroom degree and the classroom won. There was considerable discussion though that all things are never equal. Would you hire the Florida State BA online with a 3.75 over the Florida State BA classroom with a 3.25? Probably - the first is the better candidate. Some people are also using such studies to say "see, classroom is better, since I can't do classroom, I won't do online either because classroom is better" which is some convoluted logic. That same study was pretty clear that an online degree is much better than no degree at all. What I found most interesting was that they showed it's not about online vs classroom; it's about reputation of the college. Harvard online was picked over a traditional college classroom and UoP online was not picked over a traditional college classroom. In each, the college with the better reputation won out. In another question, an online BA was picked over a classroom associates. This implies that whether delivery was online or classroom isn't as important a consideration (unless we're comparing the same school) as the reputation of the school that awarded the degree. The real question though - how is an employer going to tell which student got his degree online and which did all classroom and which did a combination of the two? It's not on the diploma or the transcripts at most programs - how will they know? In fairness though, the answer to your question is that the classroom degree is more highly regarded when ALL other things are equal. At least according to one academic study that I read.

A: The amount of time depends upon the schools and the individual./ Many employers and brick and mortar institutions look down upon an on line degree./

Q: Online Bachelor's Degree Question?
If you have any experience with getting a degree online, I'd be interested in hearing it. I'm currently looking at that possibility, and am overwhelmed by the number of schools, and what they offer. I'd like a degree in Business Management. What school did you use? Is it only online, or did you have to go to a bricks and mortar location for some things? Did you really learn as much as you would in a regular classroom? Would you recommend this track to someone else? I am internet-savvy, work a full-time job, and have kids who need to be my focus. I need flexibility, an accredited, recognized degree, and the freedom to work at my own pace (usually quicker than the average). Thanks in advance for your responses! Blessings, Kate

A: I did not get my degrees on-line; However, I have some colleagues who got their PhD on-line. Choose a University that is accredited, and you should be fine. One friend got his through University of Phoenix and he feels he got a good education, and employers accepted it as a legitimate degree.

Q: Online bachelor's degree... pointless or not?
Hello. I graduated high school 3 years ago and have taken a few years off. I have been working, live in an apartment with my dog and boyfriend, and find the idea of going back to full time school very imposing on my happy little life. Anyway, I would like to get a bachelor's in business and was excited about doing so through an online program. I did a little bit of research and went to a recruitment/orientation meeting a University of Phoenix and was EXTREMELY dissapointed! So I did some deeper research and found that most people that got degrees through online programs were very uncompetitive in the job market, etc. Anyway, I'd really like to go to school online so it doesn't rock my world too bad. Is there a good program? Are there successful people out there? Is it a total waste of time and money? Any and all input is welcome!!!

A: Your going to get alot of mixed answer on this, and half of the people who answer have never attended a online college. I graduated from an online school, and after 3 months I got a job making 50,000 a year. Also, my first year of college was at a traditional college. It all depends on what you do with the degree. In my last two years of school, I did volunteer work in my career field, so it was pretty easy for me to get a job. I dont suggest going to a online school your first year of college, or if your in a postion to attend a traditional college. You learn more at a traditional college. Also, if you do choose a online school make sure that it is regionally accredited. If not the degree will be worthless.

Q: What are some good, accredited schools that are all or almost all online, where I can get my Bachelor's Degree
I have been led to dead ends by the local community colleges (one which I am an alumni) when I ask where I can get this degree. I was wanting a Bachelor's Degree in teaching. But I want to do it all or almost all of it online, in my spare/free time. I have 2 soon to be 3 children and am not able to go to classes at all. I would like to start working on getting my degree done, so when they go to school, I can go to work. I want the school to be accredited so I can actually use the degree.. and so I am not wasting my time. I currently have an Associates in Biological Science, Teaching, and just need the 2 more years for my Bachelors. Thank you!

A: Sorry to inform you, but there are no "good accredited" online schools to get your bachelors. Most online schools (including University of Phoenix) are accredited by some bogus committee that they probably made up. No four year University will recognize your bachelors degree from an onlline school, thus wasting your time and money. Some people would disagree with this, but if they have a degree from an online/tech school, ask them to further their education (Masters) at a (real) University and they will be rejected. I would use an online course as a last resort. Look into State schools, which offer accelerated courses. Best of luck.

Q: What is a Bachelor's Degree in General Education (BGE) good for?
I am thinking about finishing my degree. I work full time and I really can't stop to go back to school. The University of Missouri offers an online bachelor's degree in general education. I looked at the requirements and it looks very do-able for me. I just want to make sure it's not a waste of money. Does anyone know anything about this degree?

A: If you are just trying to finish a degree and will get a salary bump up for finishing, I say finish the degree and get the BGE. A degree is a degree. At least you've finished. I don't know what your job prospects will be, though. You will probably have to go back and specialize in something later when you truly decide what you want to do with your life career-wise.

Q: Can I get a decent job as an accountant if I get my bachelor's degree from an accredited online school?
I don't live near any big colleges that offer bachelor's programs, only associates, and I am workingon that now. What are some of the best online schools out there?

A: It should not really matter that you get the degree on line. That is a growing trend. Many accredited schools offer a variety of degrees. Plus, some regular schools are offering online degrees as well.

Q: Is there any way to get a bachelor's degree in English online?
My long term goals are to become a gradeschool teacher, and we have a local school that offers the masters and teaching certification. I have an associates in general studies, but there are no schools nearby to complete my bachelor's. I work full time and have a family and don't want to move or drive too far, so I wondered if anyone had tried an online site? All I can find is Business and IT stuff, which I'm not really into. Thanks for any advice!

A: Yes , first try on-line college's in your state they are cheaper, if not then try Phoenix on-line

Q: Taking accredited online classes to get a Bachelor's degree and be eligible for a CA teaching credential?
I am currently in a community college working online towards my GE to transfer to a university to get my bachelor's in music and then my California Teaching credential. My question is, is there an accredited university that offers all it's classes in an online enviornment that would get me a Bachelor's Degree that would make me eligible to earn a California Teaching Credential (secondary school teacher). I would like to do this so I do not have to quit my job to continue my education.
