Q: Do I need an undergraduate degree in education to pursue a masters degree in education?
I'm looking to become a guidance counselor and am pursing a degree in psychology at the undergraduate level. I've been looking at graduate programs and it looks like it falls under the Masters of Education (in School Counseling).....does it matter I will not have an undergraduate degree in Education? I'm in need of direction!! Thanks.

A: No, you don't need a BA in Education go for the MEd. Lots of people cross over into Counseling from other majors and careers. While an undergrad, though, you should look at the minimum requirements for entry into the MEd Counseling program that you're interested in and make sure you take them.

Q: Is a Masters in Education degree easy to be obtained?
I am currently live in NYC and I am currently finishing up my Masters in Education and Special Education degree. While doing the degree I really did not find it to be hard so I was wondering if it was the school I attend. I also found other people who completed their Masters in Education at other schools found it not to be challenging. I was wondering if a Master in Education on a whole is a easy degree to obtained? Thanks

A: You did not specify if it is the MEd or the MSEd. No matter. Let me put it this way. Get credential, pass state licensing board exams, get job. get job to pay for SSA or PhD (the EdD is a waste of time) then get promoted. Simple. As long as your degree is accredited, dont worry about how 'easy' it was for you. I found my PhD in education to be easy (classes anyway) but some of my peers found it hard. maybe you just 'get it' quicker.

Q: Bachelors VS Masters degree in elementary education, is there much of a difference in curriculum? ?
I think I would enjoy teaching but unfortunately I'm getting a bachelors degree in marketing. My school has a program for students with degrees in fields other than education. That will allow them to become teachers and to get a Masters in elementary education. I was wondering if I will be missing out on a lot if I skip the bachelors in elementary degree or if most of the material will be covered in the Masters program.

A: No- you won't be missing out on anything because you'll get the ed. foundations classes. Most ed majors have a general liberal arts study program supplemented by education courses. The only difference is that you will get your ed courses intensively, rather than spread out over 4 years. The bonus is, you'll get paid more your first year of teaching because you will already have a masters.

Q: can i do a masters in education degree without a degree in education?
i have a degree in economics

A: Yes, but you will need to take core undergrad courses in education (not get another bachelors) along with the masters classes; usually people take several of the undergrad core courses along with one basic masters class so they have the foundation before they transition completely over the the masters track.

Q: Masters Degree in Health Education what can I do with it?
Although I do have a MS in Health Education, I have not used it in over 10 years, now I feel what I have learned is obsolete and need further education or other training, and keep having problems with getting more training so I can get back to work what should I do? What kind of work do you do, and how did you get your job?

A: I'm a nurse, you should brush up and use your education to help people out who are sick. Hospitals have education deptarments.

Q: Which schools around the nation are best for a masters degree in Education?

A: The Teacher's College at Columbia Any of the "top 10" big name schools will give your degree name value. But remember, public school teachers don't get paid more for having a big name degree - they get the same pay as the other master's level teachers in the district. If you're in public schools then make sure you don't pay more for the master's than it is worth to you as an investment unless money is not your object. Remember too - an MBA/MPH/MPA or MA (subject) is a pretty good degree for a school teacher to have. They have value outside of the education system and get you the same advancement (or more) in many districts.

A: Go on the School District of Philadelphia - I was on last night and they are looking for almost any type of teacher. With a masters, your salary starts out at 55,000. The education field is the best place to go with that degree. (ie teaching). Also you may want to check in to the state department of education - they may want you.
