Q: Getting an undergraduate degree in Business Management, what would be a good specialization to choose?
My dream is to work as project manager, director or something of that sort for a non-profit organization. Human rights is one of my favorites, but is not just closed to that. Does anyone know what would be a good specialization for a business management degree? Something to specialize in that would help me land a job in that Field? For instance, there is sociology, psychology, biology etc, etc. Appreciate any answers with some real insight. Thanks.

A: I have a Business Management degree and have worked at a non-profit. My choices were not as broad as yours, but here is what I did. I choose general management. Choices were supply chain, general, finance and one other that I can't remember. I went back later on and got a second degree in marketing. Marketing really helped me because all business basics are covered but marketing is always necessary in whatever you do. You have to be able to keep your client happy, you have to be able to attract them into doing business with you. My second degree has actually been favorably looked upon. Maybe you can try something like that.

Q: What colleges in California give degrees in event planning / organizing / management?
I currently live in London and wanted to go over to California to study in the events field. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

A: Event planning is not something you learn at college. To learn the business you go to an event planner and offer to work for them for free, for several months being their slave. Eventually they may offer you a job. By the time you have done this for a year, you will be an expert.

Q: What I should do in pursing a job with a Sports Management Degree?
I am graduating may 2009 from the with a sports management degree, but with the economy the way it is its so hard to get a job. I've applied all over the place but everywhere I apply they tell me they just have no openings. I don't know what other jobs I can apply for...does anybody have any suggestions? I also wanted to work in England, but it seems almost impossible to do that too!

A: Couple of routes you can take. 1. Look into getting a masters degree. The economy has never been this bad, and if job opportunites are not there, its best to take the time and go back into graduate school. Look into an MBA degree or a Sports Management Masters. 2. Try getting an internship for the Spring. 3. Look for an entry level job within a spots organization, and work your way up.

Q: What can I do with a businesss management degree?
I am thinking about changing my major from Biology (which is not for me) to business.... Maybe business management? If anyone has earned this degree, what kind of job are you working as and do you like it? Also, what jobs can you get with this degree? What do they do and how much do they pay? Thanks!!!

A: This degree offers a lot of flexibility and choice in your career. You can work in the corporate sector as anything from a business development officer to solutions manager, from marketing executive to trends research analyst. You can also choose to go into the banking/financial sectors, insurance and assurance, the Government, public administration and even education. Since this degree course is popular, and more and more people are becoming qualified in this area, the initial remuneration that you will get will not be that high. So I suggest you specialise in a certain area of business. You can opt to do a Masters in that specialised field or just choose to gain work experience in that particular area of your interest. When you are a specialist you will get paid more. One of the highest paid specialist areas is remising. Being a remisier, or a stockbroker, is a challenging but well-paid vocation. Check it out to see if it's your cuppa. Anyway best of luck!
