Q: Are online degrees from institutions such as Penn Foster, University of Pheonix, ect.... worth attending?
I've checked out Penn Foster a few times, but i'm still unsure of taking online degrees from this college. Has anybody pursuded the the Civil Engineering Technology degree from Penn Foster. What was your experience like when persuing your degree from Penn Foster, and what reasources do you have if you have trobles with your studies. How long do you have to complete each semester?
A: Understand that Penn Foster is accredited by the DETC (a national accreditor) and as such their coursework won't transfer to most regionally accredited colleges (such as your state univerisity). They have had much of their coursework ACE reviewed which will allow transfer to some colleges, but transferability is often a challenge.
They are legit and many people are very happy with the programs. I bring this up though so that you are advised in advance. Understand too - most vocational/technical courses at this level won't transfer even if you take them at your local community college.
If you have no plans to transfer this degree or the courses to a bachelor's degree later then it's a non-issue. If you're going to go on to more advanced study then you need a regionally accredited college.
Now, UoP: They are regionally accredited but their reputation isn't exactly the greatest. Comparing them to PF is apples and oranges though - PF is a vocational program whereas UoP is academic.
If you're wanting to go after an academic degree, even an associates, there are much better options for you than the "as seen on TV" online colleges. It's very likely that your local community college or a community college in your state teaches online - and does so way cheaper than UoP.
For a good search engine of legit online programs, visit Peterson's http://www.petersons.com/distancelearning/code/search.asp UoP is there too but there are plenty of other options as well. Places like UMass, Florida State, U Texas, CalState, who have a more solid reputation.
Q: Are their any online schools that offer environmental engineering/science or conservation associates degrees?
I tried Penn Foster but they have industrial, civil and electrical not environment? Any information would be much appreciated...thanks
A: Finding an AS degree in something that specific is going to be very hard. I'm very surprised to see you found a school with an AS in Civil and Electrical.
Most Community colleges will offer a general engineering degree which is highly concentrated in Math and Physics.
I used an AS in general Engineering to land my job as a Civil designer and then transferred to a Four year school to get my Bachleors. (still working on it)
There were some classes I took for the AS that I didn't need for the BS, but overall I feel this was a great way for me to go about it.
Good Luck
Q: What do you know about online degrees?
I want to get onlie degree in telecom engineering, did you get oline degree,.. Msc before or any one of your relatives? Will it be recognized in the market? how much it will be as accepted as the regular degrees?
A: It’s important to know that your degree is valid, otherwise it won’t count towards your qualifications or suitability for future employment. Not all degrees you might see advertised are recognised by employers and government. You will need to check this out by checking with the governing body that deals with engineering in the telecommunications field in your country or state..
Q: Are Associates degrees in civil engineering tech any good?
I am plannning in getting a civil enginner tech degree online. But are those degrees any good?
A: Civil engineering is really booming right now. If you are a Tech, make sure you take alot of AutoCAD drawing. There is a shortage of good draftspersons. You can also use those skills in other Engineering disciplines, Municipal work, Department of Transportation (DOT) and even Architecture.
Q: Which Southern Virginia Universities are best for English majors and allow online degrees?
I'd like to earn my degree through a well known university or college that will let me do all or most of it online. I am an English major (in Comm. College right now). I know some great schools are really only great if you are becoming an engineer so I need a school that will be taken seriously if I English major there. Help!
A: There are tons of online programs. I personally attended traditional and online-only schools, and I have taught for various online schools and traditional schools over the last five years. All are accredited and solid programs. Schools tend to vary in price, so we could say online schools are more expensive, but that is relative. Of course they are more expensive than a community college, but less expensive than Harvard. The price range varies.
The key is to find a program that is fully accredited. You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!
Q: which universities offer online short term courses in electrical / electronics engineering?
i am currently in pre-final year of my engineering degree.
A: IGNOU - www.ignou.ac.in
Annamalai University
Q: How can I get into an online industrial engineering school?

Q: Is the online College Penn Foster program a scam?
I am looking for online Associate Degrees for Mechanical Engineering and I ran across Penn Foster, I just want to know if it is a scam or the real deal.
A: Penn Foster is accredited by the DETC which is recognized as a legitimate accreditor by the US Dept. of Education.
Penn Foster (at the degree level) is not regionally accredited. That means that their course credit will not transfer to most senior (4-year) colleges.
Many Penn Foster individual courses have been reviewed for credit by the American Council on Education (ACE) and will, based on that evaluation, transfer to many senior (4-year) colleges.
As online trade programs go, Penn Foster and Ashworth College are about equals. They serve a valid need for career preparation at the technical/trade level.
I suspect though, that a career in Mechanical Engineering may require a higher level school. You might want to consider other online options (such as the community college system in your state) as well.
Rochester Institute of Technology, U North Dakota, and Old Dominion U. offer bachelor's degrees in mech eng. by distance learning. They won't be as inexpensive as Penn Foster.
So; my answer is that while Penn Foster is not a scam, that degree program may or may not meet your educational and career needs.
Q: Where can I find a Circuits course online?
I'm pursuing a Computer Engineering degree for school and I'm trying to find a Circuits class to help further my degree. How do I find something like this online?
A: The best course I have found is MIT's 6.002 course, complete, on Youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfQxyVuLeCs
From the beginning, the instructor presents the overall objectives and keeps them in mind at all times. This course covers lumped element circuit theory as well as digital building blocks in a clear and insightful manner, helping the students understand applications for everything they learn. MIT is all about simplification, whatever its reputation, the objective is always to understand problems and tools for solving the problems in the simplest yet most effective way.
Of course, I may be biased. :)
Q: How does an american find a structural engineering job in Europe?
I have recently graduated from college with a structural engineering degree and I would love to work in almost an country in Europe. I have heard that It is hard for an American to find a job, however. I really just don't know where to start. Searching online hardly ever helps...anyone have any good resources on where to find a job like this?

Q: Is the Engineering School from Walden University accredited by any Institution?
I want to start my Master Degree in Electrical Engineer in their online program, is a good program, is recognized? Anyone can help me?
A: I believe that Walden is accredited.
Since it is a For profit corporation that accepts nearly anyone, it is not respected.
Q: What school can you study to be a Fly by Wire Aviation Engineer?
This is an excellent field and there appears to be a shortage of talent in this area. I know there are general Aerospace Engineer degrees but is there a school with a degree in this one area? Are there any Fly by Wire Engineers online I can talk to or professional organizations?
A: I work as an aviation engineer for the military. My specialty is power systems for aircrafts in my division we also do wiring systems. We call them "The Wire guys" and there is absolutely no college in the world that can teach you how to do their job. It is all on-the-job training. The most I can tell you is the fact that a degree in electrical/electronics engineering is required. It's a pretty cool job you get to travel around the world doing your job and trust me you'll travel. The people at my job are on the road 300 days a year is a very demanding job, so if you don't want to travel a lot don't even think about it. I have a family so it wasn't an option for me.
Good Luck
Q: online community colleges that of good computer science classes?
I need to take several foundation cs classes before I can start the MS program in CS. I have an engineering degree. I could take the foundation classes at the university but it is too expensive. Does anyone know of any good community colleges that offer CS classes online? Thanks
A: Here is a website for US colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ
Please stay away from those online, for-profit schools such as university of phoenix and strayer u. Former students of u of phoenix started this site: http://www.uopsucks.com
Q: online degrees???
Does anybody know of a place online to get a degree, that is real and will actually mean something to employers once completed?
I know that there is a lot of b.s. on the internet for this kind of thing, I need one that is legite and worth the time and money.
electrical engineering, is what i need to get a degree in but classroom courses are not an option right now.
A: As long as the school is accredited, the degree is looked upon by employers the same as any other degree. Online courses from my experience are a lot more difficult than typical brick and mortar classes and you have to keep yourself motivated to get it done. Here is a site I found a while back that has a lot of information.
