I have read a lot about how an online degree in Elementary Ed. isn't very respected by future employers. But this is really my only opinion because my husband is in the military and there are no on-site colleges. We live in Turkey and will remain overseas for awhile. That seems to be the suggestion people are giving to others is to go to a CC or state university. Which I am unable to do. I want to eventually get my bachelor's in Elementary Ed. The UOP has a degree program. Which I have heard bad things about the reputation at that online college. So if you could give me some advice on what other colleges are out there or if you have any in-site on getting your ed. degree online , as a military spouse has it worked out for you in getting on job at your husband's duty stations?

A: You might want to look at the university of MA, I understand they have an online school and they might have education. There are no accredited online BA programs in social work - A non-accredted BSW is worthless.

Q: What do I do next to pursue a degree in education?
I am currently working towards my associates. I will graduate by the end of this year. I would like to get a my bachelors in education, but I can not find an online college that offers an education Bachelors. A: It is possible to get a degree online. However, you should know that if you don't have time to go to college, you don't have time to go to college online. Online college is another mode of delivering the material, but does not (or should not) take any less time than doing college in the traditional way. I agree with you that the online colleges are a waste of money. If you are ready to make a commitment to an online program, look into those which are offered by traditional colleges. They tend to be far less expensive than the for-profit places, and they are usually better quality. You would also have an easier time getting financial aid at a traditional college than you would at an online college (although you can't usually get financial aid if you go part-time).

A: Unfortunately, I do not not know of any program that would fully meet your needs. While online courses have become increasingly popular, some things simply can not be done online. For example, student teaching or student observation. Since these are important requirements in becoming a teacher you will always find that you have to actually perform some duties and attend some classes in person. However, there are a variety of universities that offer some of their required classes completely online. Many educational programs offer hybrid classes where you attend part of the class online, say after you meet your teacher and classmates and before taking a final exam in person. Some schools require a certain number of classes to be taken on the traditional campus for a "residency" requirement. There is also the issue of costs. Some online programs are much more expensive but offer local community centers near your home. Others are much cheaper but have hidden requirements and deficiencies. One important deficiency is whether or not the program is "regionally accredited" and accepted by a major university that you might consider transferring to for an advance degree and whether or not it accepted by the state department of education for credentialing or licensing. You must ask them. Otherwise, the program, no matter how convenient, is worth no more than a diploma mill. You might get some kind of a paper, but not be able to teach legally. Please be aware of the many institutions that say that the state allows them to operate, or that they are accredited or licensed by an institution other than a regionally-accrediting agency that is used by major university. Do not ask this of the salesperson. They will always make it sound like they are regionally-accredited. You must ask a local reputable university counselor and your state department of education.

A: When searching for an online university to earn a degree, there are some dangers to look out for. Study the university website and reflect on its advertising strategies. One warning sign that the uni you're eyeing is actually a diploma mill is a sense of urgency in its advertising. Oftentimes prospective students are encouraged to enroll immediately, before tuition or fees are increased, or told that they qualify for a fellowship, scholarship or grant. Basically, if it sounds much too good to be true, you should be suspicious. Did the institution advertise using spam? You can be fairly sure the institution's a mill. If you've been unfortunate enough to actually be pulled into a diploma mill institution, you may be able to realize before it's too late and pull out. Very little interaction with professors is one other sign that an online university is actually a mill. Often mills provide no corrections, meaningful comments, or even grades. Of course, it's a nontraditional subject area you're interested in, you'll need to take extra caution. Unlike hard sciences, more unusual or esoteric subjects are often perfect for pulling the wool over students' eyes. These include universities in pseudosciences like astrology, hypnotism, and natural healing. The esoteric nature of these kinds of learning system makes external verification difficult for students, since education standards and credentials may be defined by the diploma mill's own staff rather than established or traditional criteria.

Q: I want to get my M.Ed. or M.A in Education online. Where do I look? ?
I recently earned my Bachelor's degree and am now working full-time. I am interested in earning my M.Ed. or a M.A in Education but the only problem is that I work full-time from m-f until about 6pm. I was looking into an online program, but none of the colleges that ive checked offer online degrees for the area that I want. I am extremely hesitant to go to an online university (i.e. UoPhoenix, Kaplan College, etc.) due to the fact that Ive read a lot of negative things about them. I was wondering if anyone knows of a reputable college that offers an online masters degree in education (secondary level teaching not administration or elementary level). I know the most practical thing would be to actually go to a school and attend classes in order to get my degree, but I really cant afford to quit my job in order to go to school and Im not sure if night classes would work for me either.
