Q: What kind of jobs can you go into with a early childhood degree besides teaching?
I have a degree in early childhood. I have been teaching for a couple of years now. I want to know what other career choices do I have with my degree. I live in the Atlanta area and I am open to any ideas.

A: Depending on your area of studies, you may want to look into speech and language pathology as well as occupational therapy for special needs children. it is very rewarding and it pays very well, at least in Arizona, the positions are in extremely high demand.

Q: $$ to complete a degree for woman over 60, 60 hours left in early childhood
I am a widow, taking care of invalid mother, want to complete early childhood degree but can't afford the tuition and time off work

A: Are you saying that you have 60 hours needed to receive an Associate Degree or a BA? Check out "Child Care Lounge"...this is the link for classes on line. http://www.childcarelounge.com/online/main.htm The above link has classes for CDA and CEU credits---and are affordable. If you are looking to finish a BA---there are several colleges that offer on-line classes; however, they are more expensive. Classes on line can then be done to fit your schedule. For money---Does your community have any grants/awards for women who want to continue their education? If so--apply. Can you find work at a center that may help defray the cost of classes? Remember that whatever you spend on impoving your present job is tax deductable... It sounds as if your hands are full---good for you to want to continue learning and growing! Don't give up---in this day---60 isn't old :-) Good Luck!!!

Q: What can I do with an Early Childhood Education Degree?
I haven't started the degree. I just want to know what I can do with it if I decide to take it. I know that teaching isn't the only thing you can do.

A: You can teach in an elementary school with grades such as preschool, kindergarten and first grade. Check with your state's department of education to find what criteria you have to meet to gain a state license to teach.

Q: "Im looking to get a degree in early childhood edu. I need to find a online program any good ideas?
"I'm looking to get a degree in early childhood edu. I need to find a online program any good ideas? I was looking at Ashworth Unv. but it is not accredited. I wanted to do online programs because I NEED to be working full time !

A: I'm an online student and have been for years. You might want to try Western Governors University in Utah. They are less expensive than most schools, you can get financial aid there, and they are regionally accredited (as well as their teacher programs being accredited by NCATE). Their teacher college prepares online students for teacher certification in 48 of 50 states, and they have an exceptionally high pass-rate. If nothing else, check out their website and talk to someone on the telephone. They're good at answering questions and helping you through the process. http://www.wgu.edu

Q: What other jobs can you have besides teaching in the classroom with an early childhood education degree?
I want something in the bussiness field and not to be working with children directly. Like working for a big company

A: Run a day care center. Get a job with the state department of education

Q: How would getting a degree in early childhood education benefit me?
I have the opportunity to get a college education completely free through a program at my high school, which i wasn't planning on taking, but my counselor wants me to write a paper on what the benefits of getting a degree in ECE would be and how it could help me in life. I have also been working with kids for the past 3 years and love it. i guess the question shouldn't be how can it benefit me, but what are the benefits in getting the degree.

A: Well the best would be you can get a higher pay, you would have the best chance of being hired at any child care related job you wanted. You also would have a better understanding of how to teach the kids in your care and what to look for if there are problems. This day and age we pre school teachers are teaching what Kindergarten teacher were teaching years ago....you really need a degree to get a good high paying job and to be of benefit to the kids in your care. Take advantage of getting it paid for...believe me you will regret it later if you do not.

Q: Anyone have their early childhood associate degree or anything related to this?
I am looking into job options and think that this is something that interests me. I want to go to the local college to get my associates degree in early childhood education and work with headstart programs and daycares. Does anyone out there work in this field..and if so do you like it? What kind of money does it make?

A: At the preschool level, you'll probably be making around minimum wage. I wish it were more, but that is what I experienced when I worked with that age group. I'm looking at going back to school to be certified as a teacher now because the pay is better and I just like to work with children.

Q: What can I do with an Associates degree in early childhood development?
I'm wanting to work with babies, hopefully in a day care. I would also like to help or actually teach preschoolers. I don't want to go to school for more than three years, so how far can I go with an Associates degree?

A: What? She said babies, not computers! The AA is the first degree. You should be able to get a job in a day care with this because the degree will include experience/practice so you'll get experience. Make sure the degree is regionally accredited. To advance (run a school, start a daycare, etc.) you'll want the BA and maybe the MA/MSED eventually- though maybe not right now. You need to at least have the option. Make sure, too, that the program is respected. Call a few places you'd like to work and ask what they think of the program. Also make sure the AA will transfer, say, to the local state U. It is not true, by the way, that there's no $ there. Parents need good programs and will pay for them. You won't be rich, but you may well be OK financially and happy with your life. Check salary info, see if that's OK for you to live on. Right now you say you only want to do a few years of school, but that may change in 10 or 15 years, so keep your options open.

Q: early childhood degree?
I hope that im not been too nosy but i was wondering how much did you pay for your early childhood degree.I was thinking on doing it online with Kaplan College but with grants and all at the end when i graduate i will have a15- 20.ooo loan and thats only an associates is this too much?should i try any other online college?can anyone recommend online college ?Thanxs.

A: What are you hoping to do with your degree? You will be limited in your career advancement if you only have an Associates degree. There are some programs of training that would make sense to do online. Early childhood education would NOT be one of them, in my opinion. If you have no real interaction with children, how would you ever know that you are suited for that work? And simply liking kids is NOT enough, believe me.

Q: What kind of jobs come with an Early Childhood Education degree? What level: AS, BA, MA?
I'm trying to do a little research on this to see if I want to continue with my degree or change my major before it gets too late... any information would be greatly appreciated!!! =)

A: Here in Alabama, Early Childhood Education majors at the bachelors level (BS) are certified to teach from prekindergarten up to grade 3. This means they can teach in a preschool or in a public (or private) school from kindergarten up to third grade. Many are in great demand in kindergarten.
