Q: Best way to undertake a distance learning degree?
I'm interested in doing an undergraduate degree in Physics, but I would like to do it self-study, as I have work commitments full time study isn't an option. How long is it likely to take distance learning? How often would I have to travel to the accrediting university to take exams? How much would it cost. Can anyone link me to any reputable universities that offer distance learning. I'm not bothered what country it is in so long as it is a country with well-regulated universities (such as UK, Australia, USA, etc). Thanks

A: If you are looking for reputable online college, you may want to consider an online public university. Currently, there are only 3 colleges in the US that are both state-run public schools and operate entirely online. They are Thomas Edison State College in New Jersey, Excelsior College in New York and Charter Oak State College in Connecticut. They are all accredited and legitimate. Charter Oak State College offers a degree concentration in Physics. You can see some information on it here: http://www.charteroak.edu/Prospective/Programs/Concentrations/Physics.cfm

Q: Can anyone tell me if ICS distance learning degree courses are any good ?
I am thinking of doing the BA (Hons) in Psychology with Counselling Studies. Can anyone with previous experience of ICS or doing this particular course advise me as to whether it is good doing it through them. Many thanks for any replies :-)

A: Before I started my undergraduate degree at a local university, I did a few ICS courses. When I applied to the university, I asked if my credits from ICS would transfer. They said "no ... they don't accept credits from any correspondence schools". Take that for what it's worth. Note, schools like ICS shouldn't be confused with traditional brick and mortar schools that happen to also deliver the same on-campus classes via a distance learning format. At these schools, there's no difference between the on-campus and the distance learning versions and credits earned in them would surely be transferable. You might want to research traditional schools that offer distance learning courses; a lot of them do that now. Try the DANTES catalog for starters: http://www.dantescatalogs.com/

Q: Anyone know of a good online/distance learning Sport Science Bachelor Degree?
Hi, I wonder if you can help me. I am interested in taking a Sport Science Bachelor Degree. I understand that because of the nature of this course the best option would be studying on campus, but I'd like to do this in my part time from home if possible Is it possible to study this on a distance learning? If so, how good do you think a DL course for this field is for a career prospect? Do you know any good University that offers this course? Do you know the cost of this?

A: There is an online Bachelor's degree in Sports and Health Sciences at American Public University. http://www.apu.apus.edu The school is regionally accredited. The cost is $250 per semester credit hour but includes books. Good luck

Q: Which educational institutions are considered the most credible to obtain a degree via distance learning.?
Looking at institutions worldwide.

A: It will depend on very much on what you want to get your degree in and what level of degree. Know ahead that you have way more choice than those heavily advertised programs like UoP and DeVry. Your choices include Harvard, UMass, Florida State, Oklahoma, UC, CSU, UNC, Johns Hopkins, and many more. Almost every state school is teaching online now and many have their degrees wholly online. You also have the option of taking your courses anywhere and simply transferring them to Excelsior, Thomas Edison State, or Charter Oak (all allow nearly 100% transfer in and are regionally accredited) Regional accreditation is the minimum requirement you should look at but all that says is that the school meets the minimum requirement. It's essential that a US school choice have it but that doesn't make the school "good" or reputable - it only means they've met at least the minimum standard. The distance programs with the best reputation are from the schools with the best reputation in their traditional programs as well. Those with a poor reputation also have a poor reputation in their on-campus programs. Open in the UK is very well respected. University of South Africa (UNISA) has a pretty solid reputation as well. If you speak Spanish, German, or French well enough to take classes, there are also some very good choices that way. Remember, some people will immediately think "Univ of Phoenix" or Sally Struthers commercials when you say "online college" or "distance learning" - that bias does remain though it's waining. Very many people aren't even aware that their own alma mater is teaching online now...

Q: Law Degree, Part-Time or Distance Learning, which would you recommend?
I am going to do a Law degree next year, however I am unsure whether it would be better doing it part-time or distance learning. I have previous experience in a law degree which I did not complete. And I followed that by studying a Diplom in Law distance learning. However, I have not combined the 2 before. Can anyone with experience in doing a Law degree either part-time or distance learning give me some insight what to expect. I will have to work so these are the only 2 options.

A: My advice is to do the course Part time, Whilst distance learning is equally as hard, it is looked down on by lawyers, In terms of work content, you will have your seven core subjects over the 4-5 yrs dependent on how long your part time course is, plus your electives. Your main workload will be the associated reading, of case law, academic text. Law is very personal study driven, so you get what you put in it, but expect to be doing 16-20 hrs personal reading. having studied a degree and diploma prior to this your well ahead of the game, as you know most of the work is surrounding assignment, and research techniques. I don't foresee you running into problems in the first year balancing it with work, but as you know law is not the easiest of subjects and takes time and dedication. I wish you luck, just don't burn yourself out
