degree programs online questions and answers

Q: online degree programs for history, humanities or philosophy?
Every online degree program I've seen is for business or nursing or tech-related degrees. Anyone heard of one from an accredited college for the above studies?
A: Depends at what level you want to do it. I think something called American Public University has programs in History. Norwich University has an online masters degree in Military History. And the University of Illinois Online (it is the same UI as Urbana-Champaign and your degree won't say online) has a philosophy undergraduate major.
Q: Are the online RN degree programs regarded equal compared to conventional college degrees when job searching?
I am considering an ASN and work full time and find that most conventional college schedules conflict with my work schedule.
A: You cant get a nursing degree on-line.
Q: Are there any reputable and legit online degree programs? The more I search, the more confused I get!?
I have been researching online degree programs for more than 2 weeks. Thanks to Rip Off Report.com I have been alerted to PCDI, Ashworth College, University of Phoenix and American InterContinental University as being scams or, at the very least, unethical in their practices. I was in the process of enrolling with AIU when I found the rip off website. Fortunately, I had not completed the financial aid process. I had several red flags and the rip off report was the clincher. I now know that had I completed the financial aid, I would have been a lost cause! I have an associate degree (brick and mortar, not online) and work full time. I do not have the opportunity to attend a traditional campus college at this time. I am only trying to improve my quality of life and I am sickened by the number of "colleges" that are preying on hard-working people! Please, if anyone knows of a distance education that is worth the time and money and will actually be accepted by an employer, let me know.
A: Well, most online schools are rip offs, sorry to say. I know that kind of sucks, but here is good news. Many legitimate, accredited universities that you attend the campus also offer the same class in the online format, using a software program like WebCT, where they can put the test questions up and you have a limited amount of time to answer the questions. The time is very limited so as to not allow for enough time for the students to just look up the answers. I did this with University of Nevada, Las Vegas last year and my friend did that through UCLA last year... they both are legitimate. Check with your local university to see if they allow admitted students to take some classes in online formats.
Q: Are there any online degree programs that are recognized as being cedible?
A: Yes. I actually am attending an online program. The way you can tell if it is credible is if the school offers pell grants. Pell grants are only offered to students in a credible college. www.axiacollegeonline.com/ This is the school I attend, and they are associated with University of Phoenix. The support there is great.
Q: Scholarships for online degree programs (Looking for Sponsor)?
Is there any scholarships for online degree program? I am physically handicapped (lame), 43, male, (Philippines) and I want to study online degree in Business Management. Is there any good samaritan out there who can help me?
A: Try your local church maybe there are some parishioners that can help you. If not look for some federal grants of your country, I am sure that they exist. Also try to look on line or get student loans.
Q: Reliable Website Listing ACCREDITED Online Degree Programs?
Does anyone know of any reliable, legit websites that give a listing of what degree programs are available via distance learning? There are a TON of so-called online degree "reference" sites that are nothing more than glorified advertisements for University of Phoenix, Argosy University, Penn Foster, etc. and places like that, which are not helpful whatsoever!
I am looking for a listing of REAL schools that actually physically exist somewhere (like Penn State or Virginia Tech, for example) that has full accreditations and happen to offer online degree programs.
A: Search for Accredited on-line degree programs on the web. If you don't recognize the name of the institution, DON'T apply or use them. These institutions are normally schemes. Not to mention that if you use these type of "earned" degrees in a job interview, they will dismiss you as completely nuts and laugh the whole time.
Q: Are there any RN degree programs online? Im a MA with associates now. Not sure how that works?
A: RN degree online is not a very recommended idea because to be a RN, it requires hands-on practice. It's best if you can talk to a local university/college and ask about how to get RN in less time such as a more compressed program.
Q: What are your opinions on degree programs that are completely online?
A: Another wrote these points, which I counter:
1. No prestige: Companies don't value online programs as much as they do well-known state and private institutions.
Harvard University extension and UC-Berkeley extension are much better known worldwide than the "well known" state college here in my state. Oxford teaches their master's in International Humanitarian Law online. Do we really think that companies prefer a degree from say Peru State College (a state school) to one from Harvard, Berkeley, or Oxford?
2. What you miss: Part of the advantage of sitting in a classroom is the flow of ideas between the students - you miss out on that doing online classes
I've sat in very few classrooms and actually experienced that flow of ideas. What I've really experienced (198 hours undergrad and 69 hours grad) is that in the classroom you sit and listen until the time is up and then leave. In an online course you are forced to interact with peers and to do so in writing. Ideas flow very freely online. Far more freely than in a classroom.
3. Social Setting: College is a great place to network and meet people who have similar interests. These are people who might help you get work in the future or end up good friends
People you meet in a college classroom are going to get you work? How? Are they going to graduate and then immediately be in charge of HR at a nearby company? You know what, I actually took an online course where one of my classmates was the HR director for a county. That's a contact to have. I took another online class in media law where my classmates were people working in the business at places like CNN and NY Times. Those are contacts. The "kids" you meet on campus are useless to you 90% of the time as business contacts. It's not even the best place to make real friends. Just a collection of "people you know" who are in exactly the same boat you are. Not so helpful.
4. Online programs can't get as good of profs as universities so the quality of your education is lower
Kinda depends on the program. At many of the better programs, the same professors are teaching online that are teaching in the classroom. But, at "Big State U" you get to sit in biology 101 with 125 other freshman and listen to "John" the grad assistant. He's 23 and just got his bachelor's degree last year and has never had a job. Is that what we mean by the "good professors"? Online programs generally won't let a grad asst. teach the course. You get real professors (or at least an adjunct) with real degrees and real experience.
You see, opinions are a dime a dozen and many differ. The real key is the reputation of the college awarding the degree. Some are great, some not.
My personal opinion - I have no strong desire to take another classroom program. I like the many advantages of online and am learning more and learning it faster - I don't have to wait for the slowest person in class to catch up to my level. Don't be fooled into thinking it's easier though, it's not. A good program is much harder than the typical classroom program in many cases.
As for the social aspect. I don't socialize with classmates for the most part anyway. I can socialize at church, at work, in my hobbies, etc... and have much more in common and a better class of associates.
Just my thoughts though - other's mileage may vary.
Q: Does anybody know of excellent online degree programs from public schools. It has to be 100% online though?
I'm not looking for-profit institutions like Uni of PHoenix, or so forth.
It has to have an easy enrollment process, and the online degree must be 100% online, preferablly in business..HELP
A: Most state schools now offer at least some of their classes on-line. Check with your local community college or university. While not 100% will be on-line, you can probably do your first year or two with very few actual visits to the campus. Good luck, and please stay in touch and let us know what you find that works for you.
Q: What are some of the better online music degree programs?
A: There is one?
There are certain majors that you just CAN'T do online. How can you really learn techniques without a professor in the room listening to tone and color of each note? Sorry, you may have a good audio system on your computer, but not for the type of rigorous training that you would want from a music degree. And, people in the industry that would be looking to hire you at the end will know this, too.
Q: Do online degree programs get respect from prospective employers??
A: It really depends on the company and the position that you're trying to obtain.
Most of the time, as a manager, we are looking for a specific skill set.
And honestly, having been involved in hiring college recruits for a Fortune 50 and also a Fortune 100 company, college reputation goes a long way.
Most 4 year universities will offer classes online, but the degree doesn't differentiate (state) that you took online courses. However, you are missing the real bread and butter....the lectures....
FYI...Univ. of Phoenix shows you bought your degree, rather than going to a reputable school where you had to compete for entrance an actually had to learn to get the degree.
Q: Online degree programs worth it?
Is anyone attending? Would you recommend? Does the business world accept this type of degree as being as good as campus attended degree?
A: It is true that online degrees are often of lower quality. (DEPENDING on the university/school you attend).
Example: I'm getting my masters through KU. I know all the professors teaching the classes are real professors. They are very knowledgable in their fields. If you ask questions they know the answer and could even list several good books on the subject.
A friend of mine is getting his through a wimpier school. Most of his classes have been taught by principals from different schools. Sure, they are knowledgeable, but it isn't close.
online degrees are like that: you aren't getting the benefit from a truly knowledgable professor.
I did take a couple of online classes back when I was thinking about quiting teaching. I know that (FOR ME) I am just not very motivated by online courses. I don't study as hard. The material isn't learned as well because there aren't discussions and other activities that help you to understand. You can't bounce ideas off otehr students, etc..
I'm sure they are good in their own way, but you'd ahve to work hard to convince me that online is better then the education I am receiving (and I must admit, I am NOT a jayhawk fan... it's just close to home... :-D )
Q: i have done a diploma in animation, are there online degree programs for graphic or animation?
A: Ich glaube nicht, ich habe zumindest noch keine Stufen oder Staffelung deiner Ausbildung online gesehen. Angebote auch nicht. Online Lehrgänge gibt es meines wissens auch nict.
Ciao
