Q: what does an enlisted coast guard make with a 4 year degree in criminal justice?
i just graduated from a UNC-Charlotte with a Criminal justice degree and i am thinking about enlisting in the coast guard. I was wondering what is the starting pay and how does the officers advancement work when enlisting with a degree?

A: If you have a bachelor's degree then you need to speak with an officer recruiter and see about officer candidate training. There is no pay differential in the military for degrees held. An E1 with a bachelor's degree makes exactly the same as an E1 that dropped out of high school. However, it's likely that you can receive immediate advancement in most services (at least to E3) on the basis of your degree if you enlist. Having a degree doesn't create an officer. Very many enlisted personnel have degrees. Most senior enlisted personnel have a degree. I can point to a couple units where the NCOs/Chiefs have master's and doctorates. It's not about the degree. It's just that a degree is one (of many) requirements of a commission.

Q: What can one do with a Criminal Justice degree?
What can ome do with a criminal Justice degree besides being a police officer?

A: Depending on the degree: Jobs in the FBI, Prison guard, Parole or Probation officer, Animal Control officer, Bailiff, detective, I don't know what else, sorry. What do you want to do with it? It is my major, but i only picked it because of the oxymoron of the word.

Q: Can I become a Teacher with a Criminal Justice Degree?
I live in New York and I'm currently attending school to receive a BS in Criminal Justice. Although I love the justice system, I'm thinking about becoming a High School Teacher or Dean. Can I become a Teacher after receiving my degree?

A: They have made it real simple to be a teacher. All you need in Texas is a Bachelors degree of some sort. Taking the required tests are all that is left. Most private schools do not even look for certification. Best of luck!

Q: what jobs can a felon get with a criminal justice degree?
i have two felony's(non violent- no drugs) felony 4. im going to school for criminal justice, but what type of job am i able to get with a CJ degree?

A: This is a difficult question but i think the most effective thing to do is speak to the guidance counsellor at your school. I do know however that judge mathis had a criminal past and was denied entrance into the law world because of it, he was able to bypass this issues and become a lawyer/judge. most places dont allow jobs to felons which require a state wide license such as a nurse, lawyer, police officer. The justice system really needs to be fixed where past criminals can get jobs. I appauld you for going to school regardless and hope you get a good job. good luck!

If you are trying to earn your degree in criminal justice, what do you plan to do with it (probation officer, parole, law enforcement etc.)? Many people have said having a cj degree is worthless. Any comments or advice. since when did you need a criminal justice degree to be a correctional officer, or mall security officer?

A: I am trying to get a criminal justice degree. I plan to keep going untill I can finally get a job as a forensic scientist. only about 10 years worth of school, cause i have to take medical also, but a cj degree is not , not worth it, you can be what ever you want to be with it, even if you want to teach it later, having the degree, will make it easier to teach. or you can make sure that you can be a cop, or an investigator. what ever you choose, alot of things require a cj degree.

Q: can i still become have a criminal justice degree if i have a criminal record?
wen i was a minor i was found with a small amount of marihuana!!! later on i was cited for driving without a drivers license!!! then at the age of 18 i was arrested for petty theft? i made so many mistakes growing up!!! out of nessesity! is it too late for me to persue a career in criminal justice?

A: First off, I'm sure there are some jerks who can't possibly fathom any situations where "mistakes may be a necessity." You were young, and we all make mistakes. Some more than others, but that doesn't make you a bad person. If this is something you want to do for the right reasons, then I would say go for it. "Help Me" pretty much summed it up though. Before medical school, I was in a medical forensics major and had to take courses with law enforcement students, i.e. procedural law and the like. I can tell you most of them already had a record, but they still did it. I don't know that most of them ever grew out of their habits as I never really wanted to know them despite making any and all efforts to get along with them (i.e. we'd do projects in course labs and I'd end up doing all the work while they slacked off). Anyhow, if this is something you want to do please remain considerate, open-minded, fair, and responsible. It sounds like you could make a difference, and I hope you do your best. Good luck!

Q: what can I do with a criminal justice degree?
I am interested in a degree in Crim. Justice. What types of jobs are available with this degree? what types of financial aid are available?

A: With a CJ degree your best opportunity is to go back to school and get another degree. If youare interested in LOCAL law enforcement as a career it will suffice. If you are looking for federal i.e. FBI it is a waste of 4 years. Larger better paying forces dont want CJs they want acountants and lawyers.
