Q: Which Computer Science degree course would be most beneficial for Software/Game Design and Engineering?
At one of the universities I'm looking at going to, they have 3 different degree courses-, all 5 years- B.S & M.S. in Computer Science B.S. in Computer Science, M.S. in Software Engineering B.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics Please give reasoning behind your answer, I want what would make me the most marketable in the real world, and I would graduate in 2015, so I doubt the recession would still be that big of a deal.

A: If you are an undergrad, focus on BS in Computer Science and Mathematics. Computer game design requires a solid mathematical foundation. MS in Computer Science would be good for your long term job prospects.

A: Absolutely. How about a major in computer science with a minor in criminal justice? Maybe consider taking some forensic psychology classes as well. Take the classes you like and remember that your degree does not directly predict what job you will have. Its arbitrary, and you seem like you are in the right range for what you are considering. A: No. computers are a dying industry. (I'm obviously being facetious)

A: Alot. Expect to know Calculus level stuff at the bare minimum if you want to be involved in programming back-end stuff for software. Computing jobs like IT and the like - you will probably be fine with less but you want to be a guru at math and pc's if you are doing anything coding related.

Microsoft is going to lay off about 5,000 people starting this month to sometime next year. It is also going to let go IT professionals and those from research and development department. Is it possible that the company would include those with computer science degrees? Just wondering. A: The answer is a definite maybe. As a Professor of Business and business owner of over 20 years, and having done lots of hiring over the years, there is and will continue to be a tremendous demand for people with Computer Hardware and Software knowledge regardless of your degree. Remember, that textbooks are at least two years old, after the writing, editing and publishing, so they are by definition obsolete. What about your Professors? Are they working in the field or are the Ivory Tower type, who haven't had a "real job" in twenty years or more? If you have up-to-date knowledge and experience you will definitely be in demand. If you lack experience, go volunteer, do an internship, etc. to gain the experience that will be required of you. As a business owner, I want to know what you can do for me. Do you have your "ticket punched"? That is the degree which will get you through the door. But, can you actually be of use to me and generate more income than you cost? Or, am I going to have to devote lots of hours and lots of money to train you? Who would you rather hire? To summarize: Get up-to-date and Get the Experience! Good Luck!

A: The most important part is probably linear algebra, but colleges usually also require differential equations. Number theory is useful too.

A: With a Computer Science degree, you can get a career as a software developer, Systems Analyst, Systems, Database, and LAN Administrators (you need to take networking and security classes for these careers). There are more career choices for a Computer Science majors other than the ones I mentioned but you should get a clear idea: You'll focus on a career working with computers either making software and other programs or working with hardware and software to fix computer based problems and maintaining computers and networks.

A: i think birmingham is a nice university..but i'm not sure about the city of birmighma...i have heard bad things about it...and altohugh the university is good, it is not in the best area.

A: Computer programming jobs are pretty much 9-5 type jobs. Regular hours from Monday to Friday. The nice things about programming though is it offers flexibility and most companies have flextime schedules for their employees which means they can arrange 3 day weekends by working 4 ten hour days a week. They also sometimes allow their employees to work from home (all you need is an internet connection and a computer). Increasingly, there are also freelance computer jobs. So the programmer picks his jobs. Basically, he's a contractor... The short answer and the one you are probably looking for though is, "Yes, he'll have time for a social and family life." In fact, more so that a lot of jobs out there. Of course, with that said, there are exceptions to the rule. Some jobs, especially those with startups might require long hours or with lots of travel.
