business degrees questions and answers

Q: Why do people say business degrees are worthless?
I mean, everywhere there are businesses. How can you not get a job if you have a BS degree or MBA? Why is you always have to know somebody or kiss booty? What kind of motivational crap talk is that...ya know? I can't stand these people saying college is useless..do they just want to bring people down or what? Isn't business a very good choice considering everything is a business? Ya know? Come on!
A: Not many years ago, business degrees were very valuable. But too many people went and got those valuable degrees! Then our economy went into a terrible slump anyway. You can never tell for sure, but I believe that some day those degrees will be worth something again.
Q: Best Colleges in So Cal for business degrees with a water polo team?
I'm a water polo player, and I want to major in business. So, which realistic colleges would you recommend? (by realistic, I mean not Stanford, or Pepperdine, or a really expensive/prestigious college)
A: USC
cal state LA
concordia
santa clara
santa barbara
loyola marymount
chapman
ucsd
university of san diego
some of these are probably what you arent looking for in terms of price and academics, but give them a shot
Q: What can you do with Business degrees?
Mostly the Bachelors, Masters and PhD options...What can you do with those? I know Assistants with the cert. and diploma generally, and Accountants etc with the Degree but what are your options with such higher education?
A: I run my own business. When I got my BS in business you needed a MBA to land the good jobs. Now a BS is fine. Don't expect to start at the top. Soon you will learn that everything you learned in school doesn't apply. Each business has it's own way of doing things. I'm not saying school isn't worth it, but many just out of school new hires think they know a lot better way of doing just about everything. YOU DON'T. Be flexible. Your degree shows you are capable of learning. It will take time to advance. Career destinations can be as high as being a business owner or even a CEO of a Fortune 500 company.
Q: Does anyone think that business degrees are way too easy?
I'm an engineering student pursuing a buisness minor and I've found that buisness classes set the bar really low, yet the students in those classes, (pursuing majors in buisness) find the classes hard. Are there another non-buisness students out there who also find the courses too easy, and that society, and pop culture (The Apprentice) seem praise buisness students for their acclomplishments too often?
A: I think they're worthless. Most of the business students end up doing crappy thankless sales and management jobs when they're finished that they could have done even without their business degree. To make a business degree truly worthwhile, you need an MBA.
Q: Which of these business degrees is more beneficial?
I am 18 years old and I'm starting college in January. I know that i want to major in Business...but I am not sure which degree is more beneficial- Business Management or Business Finance??
Can you tell me the ups and downs of both, and a salary estimate??
thank you =]
A: Business management is a lot more people oriented- management styles, leadership techniques. It puts you in the running for a management position. If you like people and managing, choose that one.
Business finance is more number oriented. A lot of accounting and financial planning. It allows you to become a CPA, CFO, CEO, and a lot of other alphabet titles. If you're good with math and/or don't like people pick this one. Finance typically has a higher top-out salary than management. Management tends to top out at $80,000, while finance can easily get you to $150,000.
Q: what types of jobs can someone get with degrees in business administration?
need a nice list of possible jobs in business, tho planning to start my own but still need to work before starting my own.
A: marketing manager
accountant
office manager
financial analyst
import/export manager
salesman
banker
advertising account manager
buyer
insurance underwriter
retail manager
sales executive
systems analyst
commodity broker
management consultant
marketing consultant
there are tons of possibilities b/c it's such a broad degree
Q: What liberal arts schools offer degrees in business? (Or are there similar, more common majors?)?
I want to get a liberal arts education, but eventually open a small business (therefore, hopefully study business in college.) I know that business schools are in a completely different vein than liberal arts colleges, but I've found that a small number of liberal arts schools have business majors (Clark and Skidmore are the only I've found so far.)
Are there any other liberal arts schools out there that offer business classes, or are there other more common majors that would help prepare me for opening a small business? (a bakery, hopefully.)
A: Highly regarded AACSB-accredited schools with accounting majors include: University of Richmond, William & Mary, and College of the Holy Cross.
You can major in Accounting and Economics at Holy Cross and you get most of what you would get at a typical business school along with a great liberal arts education.
Q: How important is accreditation for business MBA degrees? Which ones carry the most weight?
A: Send me $100K and I will give you an MBA from my school (I am self accredited). No need to take any classes or anything.
Still wondering if accreditation matters?
Q: Computer based business degrees?
I'm currently pursuing an associates in network administration and was wondering when I decide to go for a B.A. if there is a business degree that includes a need for the computer courses . . . I tried googling info but all i get is stupid ads for online colleges.
Thanks!
A: how about Information Management... it's a branch of IT but it focuses more on business
Q: What do proposed US immigration reforms mean for UK graduates with Business Bachelors degrees?
A: The reforms proposed 2 years ago are dead. We have to wait and see what the new proposed reforms will be when congress gets around to looking at that issue next year. And this issue will have to wait until after the financial crisis and the Iraq war are taken care of.
