Q: What associate degrees can lead to the best entry level jobs?
I have recently started back to college and am trying to decide on what associate degree I want to earn. I know it is important to pursue something I enjoy. But, what associate degrees can help me land the best paying jobs? Thanks.

A: I don't want to discourage you because getting any college degree is an important step. The reality is that most employers at a corporate level view an associates two year degree like advanced high school. It has very little value in a corporate setting. If you want to work in a beauty shop or a computer store then an AA degree in cosmtetology or in PC repair is probably fine. For most people an AA is a stepping stone to getting a 4 year degree. So the good news is go ahead and pursue it but take those credits and jump into a 4 year program as soon as you can. Now remember that if you graduate in a 2 year program in one major you can easily switch majors when you go to a 4 year college. It may take you a bit longer to graduate if you end up with some credits lost by the transfer but it is usually minimal. I have a 2 year AA degree in photography and a 4 year BS in computer information systems. Employers generally view a 4 year degree as an indication that a future employee will be teachable and will finish what they start. The actual information that you learn has less value because most employers will retrain you to their way of doing things anyway. Most textbooks were out of date the day they were printed so employers don't care as much about what you have learned in school but if you will be able to learn what they want to teach you. A 4 year college degree gives them a pretty good indication that you can be taught.

Q: What are the types of Associate degrees?
I'm lookin to go to college for my Associates and I dont know what to go for? what are the different types of degrees? is there only the AA, AS, and AAS?

A: I believe those are the only three. It is the same as BS or BA. Each major has what degree it is under. When you graduate, you hood or gown regala are different colors. Once you get to masters and doctorate degrees it gets a little more complicated such as MA, MS, MBA, MPT, MOT, pharm D, psyD. PhD, MD, DC, DPT, DPM, DDS, JD, etc.

Q: do employers pay more if i have two associate degrees?one in science and another in accounting.need opinions?
at first I was not planning on doing accounting work that is why I have an associate of science...anyways I would like to know if anyone has an idea if employers pay a little extra since I will have two associate degrees. thanx

A: Keep in mind that an Associates program is directed at Gen Ed requirements. Even if you have a specialization, you only took a couple of classes for that specialization. You could have done that in a certificate program. DO NOT do a certificate program. You need the Bachelors. A certificate will enhance a Bachelors, a Bachelors will always trump a certificate. Finish the Bachelors. Don't waste your money on a second Associates.

Q: Are associate degrees really worth anything?
can you get a repectable good paying job with as little as a associates degree?

A: My opinions, no. However, if you have your Associate's in Nursing (RN), your Associate's in Electrical Engineering (Electrician) or even your Associates in Computers, you can find a decent job. It's better to earn your BA though.

Q: Are there any community colleges that offer Associate degrees in Arabic?
I live in ILlinois and its best if I stay here because of my financial aid situation But I can look into other states as well

A: Specifically Arabic? I haven't seen that as a major, although more and more ccs are offering classes in Arabic. But you can major in modern languages, and in some places, you can major in things like near or middle eastern studies, and in any of those majors, you'd study Arabic. So see if the ccs near you offer one of those majors, and also have the Arabic courses you need, and you should be able to get where you want to go.

Q: with out an associate degrees can I go for a bachelors..?
I have been out of high school for 20 years. I have NEVER been to college and was wanting to go. I work midnights and have been looking into online schooling.. What I want to know is can I go directly into getting a bachelors degree without having an associates degree..?

A: Go for it! You can go straight to your bachelors degree. Keep in mind, some careers and/or trades don't require as much education as others (for example, sales), so as you're deciding about your education, make sure you tailor your degree to meet your dreams, unless getting that degree is a dream in and of itself. Congratulations on your decision to further your education! Best wishes!

Q: What are the best jobs with associate degrees?

A: I know you won't do this; I would never have done this until I suddenly stumbled into it. No matter what your degree is in, advertise yourself as a "Domestic". Work for wealthy people only. Shower them with Country Club references. Look them up online and at the public library (Polk and Co. City Directory), find out thier background; what they like, what they want to hear. Tell them that a psychic told you to help them. Take no less than 15 dollars an hour. good luck. by the way, it does not matter what your degree is in at all!they want educated people who are not as knowledgeable as them, and perhaps a bit dumb and naive. hence, the psychic. promise me you'll try it once.

Q: Are there any associate's degrees that are useful and relevant in real life?
I'm going to earn my bachelor's degree too, eventually, but I really want to get an associate's degree first so I can have a decent paying job while I'm still in school. I'm definitely not interested in nursing or anything medical, though.

A: I would go the business angle. I was in the same situation as you, and my academic adviser told me to seek an associates degree in business management and accounting. You would not necessarily have to travel my route, because there are many other business avenues you could choose (just ask for an academic advisor at your college---they can help you further). Business degrees open many job opportunities in today's career world. In addition, the two years worth of classes fit many prerequisites for bachelor majors. Good luck--I know how difficult it can be to choose:-)

Q: Two associate degrees vs one bachelor degree?
Is two associate degrees(computer information systems and business) just as good as one bachelor degree? Bachelor degree programs for certain majors are so long and unnecessary that I decided to get an Associate degree twice in two different areas that go well together. If I would have gotten a bachelor it would have taken me four years and I would have to pick between the two majors or spend more than four years to get both in bachelor degree. Do you think I've wasted my time and should have gotten a bachelor or can I still get a good job with two associate degrees?

A: Some might view it as the same and others may not.

Q: would it look better for an associates and a minor or 2 associate degrees?
i will eventually go for my bachelors a few years after working in my field-IT/Computers

A: It would be best to just go ahead and get your bachelors. If you have the aspiration to go further, you should just jump into it and go after it from the jump. You'll get better job prospects going into a four year college and working your way through. Just seriously think about your options. To answer your question though, it would look better to get two assoc. degrees as opposed to the minor.
