Q: What exactly are all the accounting degrees you can get?
So I was thinking of getting a bachelors in accounting, but then would it be possible instead of getting a job after graduation to get a certificate or mba or what? I have heard that you can get a CPA, also I have heard of mpacc, also there is an MBA degree with accounting specialization. I am sure there are more but which exactly is best and which are most useful and is it worthwhile to get all of them?

A: I think that if you have a CPA and a bachelor's in Accounting, you can get pretty much any job within the accounting field that you might want. It's a growing field right now and there is a shortage. There are many different fields within accounting, and they are all somewhat related, so it is not too hard to move around once you get your foot in the door. The certificates and what not are just wall decorations and words on a resume. The real key to success is experience.

Q: How can an accounting degree help me get in the DEA?
I Was just wondering how will accounting skills help me in the DEA, would this degree put me behind a desk becuase my main goal is to actually get out in the field.

A: Well, they need someone that can find the money. The days of the dealers just stashing money in their apartments under their beds is long gone. Most of them have found accountants to hide the money for them. So the DEA need accountants to figure out where the money is hidden. As for going out in the field, I don't know exactly how much accountants are needed out in the field. The best thing would be to go onto the DEA website and find out for yourself. Usually the questions like that can be answered there. Good luck!!

Q: how long does it take to get accounting degree?
INext year I am going to be going for my accounting degree or certificate , how long does it normally take?Without getting masters.

A: Bachelor's degree in an accounting area is just like any other bachelor program -- 4 years on average. You would be eligible for entry level accounting positions.

Q: Is getting an Accounting Degree very difficult?
I've been interested in studying for a degree in Accounting but everyone I talk to about it says that Accounting is very hard. One person I talked with said they had to take an Accounting class in college and half the students in that class failed. I was just wondering if it really is that difficult. I'd like to go to school for this. I just want to know what I'm in for.

A: Accounting is not easy.......but the first year in college is not hard and it wont get hard until 3rd or 4th year lol...........if you feel this is what you wanna do it shouldn't be a problem if you work at it.

Q: i need some advice on college - accounting degrees.?
okay, i just graduated with my bs in history and my ba in education. now i would like to go back to school to major in accounting. first question is - do i get my associates or bachelor's degree in accounting - what is the difference for a job. second questions - if i already have my bachelor's degree, will it take me another 4 years if i want to get another bachelor's degree or can i transfer some of the credits?

A: My suggestion is to get a Masters in accounting. Some schools do not require an undergraduate business degree in order to enter into their graduate accounting programs. You will probably need to take some prerequisite courses first but it will probably be equal to or a little less than the total amount required to get another bachelor's degree. Here are a couple of hypothetical scenarios. Bachelor's degree in accounting - at least 40 semester hours of accounting and business courses and probably more. Master's degree in accounting - 36 semester hours plus an additional 15 to 20 credit hours of prerequisites. Here are specific responses to your two questions. An associates in accounting qualifies you for a bookkeeping job, that's it. It would not qualify you for a true staff accountant job. Bookkeeper's earn about $25k to $30k to start. A staff accountant earns between $30k and $40k to start. As to your second question, no, it will not take another 4 years. As I mentioned earlier, you will need to take between 30 and 60 semester hours. In other words, from one to two years of full time study. However, since you already have a bachelor's degree, you could be admitted into a graduate program. Good luck

Q: Is an accounting degree right for me?
I am currently working as a trainer for a major credit card company. I don't have a degree and am considering a Corporate Accounting (CA) degree. I enjoy working with financial products and think this would be a good choice for me. With my work experience, I wonder if this is the field that I should be looking into or if I am missing something that would be a better fit for me.

A: I have an accounting degree. I chose that because I love math much better than English (writing). I love to solve problems. With this degree people become auditors and work for KPMG, government, etc. You could work in the tax field for the IRS, work for a private company, or have your own business. I work for a manufacturing company in the finance department and I like my work. I do month end closings and payroll. Call the school that you would want to go to and see if there is a counselor there that could talk to you about accounting.

Q: I need a topic from Accounting professors and consultants for my Masters in Accounting degree.?
I am a 55-year old male adult. I am preparing my thesis for my Masters of Science in Accounting degree. My professor has refused to accept three topics which I have presented. I am appealing to accounting professors and consultants to assist me with a wide range of topics from an area within a larger field to select from. Personal contacts will be appreciated.

A: Accounting for Web Companies / Advertising Companies and Valuation for the same is an upcoming and a Naive Topic. Also maybe Valuation of Web based companies with risks spread Across the globe and users across the globe. Risks asscoiated because of Demographics of usage an operations

Q: Are there jobs for people with Accounting and Finance degrees on Oil Rigs?
For some reason, I think it would be really cool to work on an oil rig! But, I'm afraid my choice of majors doesn't really lend itself to living on an oil rig... What do you think?

A: If you want to work on an oil rig you can start as a lease hand at about $ 21.00 an hour. This is physical work, your degrees won't factor in any way. May you can get lucky and get a job as a roughneck for a couple dollars more. Spend a year or two on the rigs, make some money and then get an office job at a drilling company using your degrees would not be a bad option.

Q: So I'm graduating with an accounting degree and don't really want to go mainstream. What should I do?
I've thought about everything I can think of. I don't think I like accounting really, but I stuck with it. What would I need to do to become for example a high school business teacher? I'm looking at that as an option. Or does anyone have any other suggestions of what to do with an accounting degree besides audit, tax, etc.

A: Actually Katey you don't need a teaching degree to become a teacher. States like CA and NV will let anyone with a BS/BA teach if they so choose due to the shortage. It's hard to say what else you can do. I have my BS in psych and am going back to grad school so I can find a worthwhile career and get out of sales.

Q: If i'm not strong in math is an accounting degree out of reach for me?
I've finally decided to finish my degree. I haven't been in a college classroom in almost 10 years. During the time I was in school, I struggled with my introduction to accounting course (finished with a C). I completed intermediate accounting and made a B. I barely passed college Algebra with a C. I know my math is my weakness but I feel that accounting is a field that I would be able to find a decent paying job easily. Any thoughts?

A: First, poor maths does not mean poor in accounting, they are very different. Second, accounting jobs are very competitive out there, so jobs are not easy to find, especially during this credit crunch period. There could also be more accounting students graduating every year than accounting jobs created every year. Third, starting pay for accounting people are pathetic, so don't expect to earn anything more than a workshop repairman on your first few months. If you can survive a year on the job, get a higher paying one, everyone in the industry does that.
