Q: what is the best way to make writing courses interesting?

A: you can't make writing courses interesting. It's against the laws of nature or somthing.

Q: Do most writers take creative writing courses at some point in their lives?
I cannot imagine that they'd be self-taught... good writing style is learned, and not automatically developed.

A: Many great writers never took creative writing classes. Many learned their craft by reading and studying other writers or by asking for and taking suggestions from other writers. Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Steinbeck and Dostoevski are a few. Although Hemingway did start out as a journalist. A degree in writing does not make someone a writer of note any more than a degree in art makes an artist a great artist. If classes do anything, they do provide short cuts to learning the craft.

Q: Can i get the information on technical writing. Training facilities, certificate courses and the job market?

A: Tried throwing your resume around the job market??

Q: Would it be beneficial to take writing courses for an accountancy major?
And why...

A: Professional writing courses would be key. One of the things about the business world is that you have to sell yourself. It really depends on what your goals are in most larger organization at some point you'll have to make presentations. If you prepare a number eventually that number will have to communicated to someone with words that support that number. I believe even though I was a finance major, speech and my professional writing classes have been a big help and boost to my career.

Q: Where can I find free fiction writing courses in Philadelphia?

A: At the Philly Liars Anonymous Meetings on the corner of Les and Brown Ave's.

Q: Do you think good writers are born, or learn how to write through courses in writing?
I believe good/great writers are born with an innate ability to write well, tell a story.

A: I would have to say they are born with a certain amount of creativity and sensitivity to see the world in a certain way. With that inborn talent, they can be nurtured to get better but if you got it, you got it. I know there are writers that never took a writing class in their life and they have written the classics - Hemingway, Chaucer, Collins...they just know how to tell a story and somehow they connect with people in such a way that it's almost mystical.

Q: what are some college courses that deal with writing?
writing is the only thing i think i could go to college for and be successful. i love to write, i have like 6 different notebooks in my room i have filled with different writings, with poems, journals, and short stories. but i only enjoy writing if i allows me to be creative. so what are some different courses that deal with creative writing? your help is much appreciated and thanks in advance.

A: There are two fields of writing: Creative, and Journalism. Creative writing is most likely what you do. Write stories, write your life, write poetry, even journaling. Anything that isn't journalism. It's the most fun, but has a small career field. You'd probably have to get into education or a related field (ranging from the movie business to marketing) and, if you want, write creatively on the side until your big break. That's the general purpose of that field. Journalism is much more stable, but one of the most difficult careers out there. It's basically news/magazine writing with deadlines, and includes articles and stuff you might read on a website. It's very deadline-heavy and stressful, but it's a very exciting field that produces some of the best writers in the world. I'm a writing major and I've taken classes in both. It's a good field, but you'll need to sit down and figure out an end-point before junior year, or else you'll be screwed. It's a little more practical than, say, a History major, but there is some risk involved in most liberal arts. Take a beginning Journalism class, and a Creative Writing class. Talk to the teachers about what you want.

Q: Writing courses in college.. are they worth the time?
I've taken the required writing courses offered at my university; however, I want still want to improve my writing skills. Should I take the next level of the writing courses offered? Or would that be a waste of time when I can take a different course that I will need to graduate?

A: Take the writing for business courses. The English courses teach you to write pretty prose...that's not the way we write in the business world. Take a technical writing course and learn how to get your message across clearly. That is a much more pertinent skill than the writing taught in English 101.
