Q: Are there any Photoshop training courses available in Halifax, Nova Scotia?
Perhaps theres some at a local University or something? I've been looking around, but have mostly just found courses located in Ontario. If anyone knows of any courses available in Halifax, please let me know! Thanks.

A: The Nova Scotia College of Art and Design typically runs a continuing education course on this from time to time, in the $250 range. This is likely one of the best in the area, and is done on Mac. Check out the website link for NSCAD below.

Q: How many more training courses do I have to do to get a job?
I am 57, due to retire at 60, have been a fully qualified dental nurse (had to give up due to health problems), re-trained as a secretary and earned my living for over 23 years doing that, drifted into elecronics and spent several years doing that before studying and working in employment law. I also worked in trading standards before being made redundant. At various times I've worked in an estate agency, local government, property management, and even stacked shelves in a supermarket, all temporary assignments. On 'signing on' for work (Job Seeker Allowance) I've been asked if I would be willing to re-train, and if not, why not. As what? plumber, brickie, IT, what for heaven's sake? I went to Job Seekers 'cos ageism is alive and well and I can't get a job doing what I'm qualified to do. If I can't get a job when I have lots of experience, what chance after doing another training course with no experience in that field?

A: Why don't you tell them that? If they can't find you a job that you are trained for then they aren't very good! I think "I'm retiring soon so it wouldn't be worth it and I am already very qualified" is a perfectly good reason under the "if not why not". Anyway, would training for something else be so bad? Ialways get bored with jobs once I can do them!!

Q: What happens to dogs who do not pass training courses to become a service dog? ?
Is there a place to adopt them from? Does anyone know of any specific agencies that help to adopt these guys out?

A: There are no agencies or clearing houses that place service dog wash-outs. Each program that trains service dogs places their own washouts. Those that wash out for service work are most likely to be career change dogs. Some go into law enforcement or search and rescue. Others become demo dogs. Some become skilled companion dogs for disabled children (no public access). Those that wash out of service work and are not suited to any job are first offered back to their own puppy raiser as a pet. If the puppy raiser doesn't take them, the dog may be put up for adoption. No reputable service dog training program would EVER send their wash-outs to a shelter. EVER. They are responsible for that dog for the life of that dog. If it can't be a service dog, the program is responsible for finding it a good forever home. Even washouts have a lot of training and health testing in them. They are in very high demand. Waiting lists are typically three years to get one. Here's one program's policies on adopting their washouts: http://www.guidedogsofamerica.org/adopt.html Again, each program has their own plan for placing them. Contrary to what one answerer suggested, washouts are not put into the breeding pool. Service dog candidates are spayed/neutered at an early age (about six months), before most would wash out for training issues. Those that wash out for health issues (allergies, hip problems, eye problems, etc.) would obviously not be suitable for ANY breeding program, much less a service dog breeding program.

Q: Is there any online wicca training courses that I can teach at?
I am interested in teaching a course online for wicca/numerology/clairsentience tarot readings. Or doing a class on developing intuition. Is there any?

A: Hey! There are some sites that will accept people to teach classes; but others aren't accepting people to teach. You could try to start your own website and offer classes. Another suggestion to consider would be writing an e-book. You could write it as though it were a course. The Chapters could be split into Lessons or Weeks (like lessons). Good luck and have fun! Try searching Google for training sites. Search the sites to see if they need teachers. Email them if you have to. =] ~Natasha, The Garrulous Lady

Q: I have recently signed on for jobseekers allowance, are there any training courses I can go on?
I would like to improve my prospects and would like to know if the job-centre will supplement any course fees?

A: It really depends on what you want to do. If you are claiming Jobseeker's Allowance, then you can enrol on a part time college course, and your fees will be waived. If you want the Jobcentre to arrange a training course for you, then there are various criteria you need to fill. Mainly you cannot be referred to training unless you have been claiming for a minimum of six months. However, if you identify a short training course (generally 13 weeks of less), that will significantly increase your employment prospects, and can prove that there is work available, then you may be able to get them to fund it earlier than six months. It is known as "One Off Training" My advice would be to try and do a part time course, particularly if you have nothing specific in mind, and just want to do something that improves your prospects. Not sure what you're looking for, but most colleges run various vocational courses on a part-time basis. And if you are on Jobseeker's Allowance (income based) then it will be free, so why not take advantage.

Q: If you are a Marine active duty can you sign up for training courses unrelated to your MOS?
For example, say I am 7051 Aircraft Firefighting, can I attend the outdoor survival course if I wanted to. (I've asked my recruiter, but I want to hear some other answers) What about MCMAP?

A: You dont sign up for anything..You have to be recommended to attend classes.. Its not as if they come out with a list of classes and then you pick..It does not work this way.. In all the classes I attended I never saw someone out of the unit..Either your unit does it as a whole or you dont go..Every class I attended was made up of combat infantry MOS's.. If there was a aircraft maintenance class why would they allow a infantry man to attend this class? You only attend classes that you need or will benefit your unit.. The only people who got to attend classes that did not need them were cooks..The cooks in our unit every now and then would volunteers to do a "jungle warfare" course..But they were in our unit... If your thinking of becomming a Aircraft Fireman and then trying to get into classes such as Call For Fire school, or Jungle Warfare Training, or any other infantry class than the answer is NO... Its the same concept as you will never be allowed to try out for Sniper school because you have no need for it.

Q: Online training programs/courses for students, especially IT courses/programs?
I wanted to increase my knowledge in the IT world by doing free online training/programs/courses. However, I want a certificate at the end of the it to prove that i have finished it. It doesn't have to be free, as long as the training is legit and useful. An example I'm looking for is from Sun Microsystems. They have online student training courses and in the end, you get a certificate.

A: This looks pretty impressive if you want to work on Apple Macs etc. CTA offers certification for Apple technical training for professionals who are responsible for planning, maintaining, and integrating Mac OS X. Leopard 101 : Mac OS X Support Essentials v10.5 Leopard 201 : Mac OS X Server Essentials v10.5 Leopard 100 : Introduction to Mac OS X v10.5
