Q: How do I prepare for the red cross lifeguard training course?
I am 16 years old and trying out for lifeguarding. I am a weight lifter and a decent swimmer but I really need some endurance and cardio improvements. How do I prepare for the training course? What workouts can you do to improve these areas? Also I have some breathing troubles in such a way as an abnormal breathing rhythm that hampers me. Is there anything I can do to improve this?

A: The first thing you will do when you arrive for the Lifeguard course will be to take a precourse screening. This screening will consist of two parts. The first part will have you swim 300 yards (down and back 6 times in a regular size pool). You will need to do 100 yards of the front crawl (also known as freestyle). Then you will do 100 yards of the breaststroke (this is the stroke with the froggy kick). Then the last 100 yards you can do either front crawl or breaststroke. There is no time limit for this part. To prepare for this portion, go to a pool and practice swimming the full 300 yards several times. Most students who don't make it will fail this portion. The second part will have you jump into the shallow end of the pool, swim either front crawl or breaststroke to the deep end, dive down 7-10 feet, bring up a 10 pound object, and swim with the object back to the shallow end. You will need to keep your face out of the water while swimming back and there is a time limit of 1 minute, 40 seconds. Some pools have a ten pound object with which you can practice. If not, make sure you are able to go down to the bottom of the deep end with no trouble. My best advice is to spend the time before class practicing your strokes and making sure you can swim 300 yards without stopping. After you pass the precourse screening, the rest of the course really shouldn't be a problem. The instructors do a really good job of teaching the skills.

No. Anyone who is eligible to work in the UK can apply for this license. 5. Pay rate varies depending on the job but usually ranges from £8.00 to £15.00 hour. 6. There are alot of security jobs available even in the present environment, you can apply for security jobs either through the training company or you can look for jobs on the internet, alot of security companies are still recruiting security personnel. 7. The top SIA training company is Get Licensed, they provide training all across UK, have the highest pass rate, sia qualified trainers, good venues and reasonable course prices compared to other training companies. 8. Upon successful completion of the training course, that is after you have received your results you may apply for the sia badge, all you have to do is order an sia application pack from the sia website, fill it out and send it off to sia. 9. SIA door supervisor training course is good as it enables you to work as a security guard as well hence you can cover a wide range of jobs from retailing to warehousing, clubs, bars and pubs, hotels etc.

You have too do training in the store by clicking on the training icon, it looks like your online but your really not, its just linked up too a bunch of stores across the country. You can check out your pay by going too 88sears.com and you can even print out your commision statements. Heres a tip on training too, go on near closing hours if you can because thats when the servers less busy and things will go alot quicker.

A: Wish I could give you some advice other then never quit, but just want to wish you good luck. All the RM Cammacchio Group guys that I trained with in Scotland ('99) and in Stanford Training Area, England ('00) were top noch. Had a lot of respect for those guys. I ask only one thing of you; if you do make it can you please have the Marines in your troop keep there goddamned pants on when they go out to pubs. We ended up getting kicked out of a few pubs b/c of that. lol

A: Well, I think that definately depends on the content of the class, but the typical stuff would be: When did you feel most engaged in the class? When did you feel least engaged in the class? Was there something from class that you found particularly helpful/surprising? What were your goals in coming to class? Have those changed? Have those goals been met?

A: There are companies that will hire you under 21, but you have to look for them. Have you tried Swift, JB Hunt or Werner. Those are probably the largest companies, so they may have a program for you.

Q: Can I become a makeup artist by taking a skin care/spa training course?
I want to be a makeup artist. The cosmetology courses all offer only mostly hair training. So a few people have told me to try skin care courses. I'm not sure if you can be hired as a makeup artist with a skind care degree.

A: I think you need an esthetician's license........ check with Voc schools that offer this course. It's only a couple months, and then you're licensed to do it.
