Q: What are good universities/colleges to take summer courses in?
I am in high school and I was looking at colleges such as NYU, Georgetown and Cornell to take summer courses in for credits, etc. What are some that you could recommend? Thanks :)

A: Good choices. But, I would recommend you look at universities and colleges near where you live. This will save time and money and all those out of state fees.

Q: Can I do summer courses in college to decrease the number of years?
I head colleges start at late January and ends at May per semester. I want to keep on going so i can decrease the number of years i have to study. I want to take extra courses over the summer so on the fall semester i can start new curriculum.

A: Yes, but it won't save you much time. You can't take more than 2 summer courses at a time, and even that can be too much - summer courses take an entire semester and teach it in 6 weeks. They meet for hours every day, assign many hours of homework a night, and give tests each week.

Q: What are good universities/colleges around the NY area to take summer courses in?
I am in high school and I was looking at colleges such as NYU, Georgetown and Cornell to take summer courses in for credits, etc. What are some in that general area that you could recommend? Thanks :)

A: The only college I ever attended was Columbia which I loved. If you can get in I highly recommend Columbia!

Q: Would it help me get into NYU if I take summer courses at Baruch college?
Baruch college offers summer programs for 11th graders. If I took those courses, would that help me get into NYU?

A: Anything you can do to show New York University that you are well prepared is always a plus. Taking college level courses will definitely show them that you are serious. Plus, it will probably be fun and anything like that can help sway the decision your way.

Q: Where can i get financial aid for my summer courses?
My school does not covers for summer courses and there's a class I need to take.. Is there any kind of financial aid available For the summer???

A: Unfortunately, no. When your school provides you with a financial aid package at the beginning of the year, that represents your entire eligibility for the academic year. If you use all of that money in the Fall and Spring semesters (as most students do), you have exhausted your aid eligibility for the year. Some schools (very few, I'm afraid), will set aside a small amount of money for summer aid, but it seems that your school has already informed you that they're not one of them. Without access to the federal student aid program until the new academic year starts, and without any kind of school-based (institutional) support, there are no other forms of money that are generally available for summer semesters. This reality is one of the many reasons why summer semesters see far lower registration numbers than the fall and spring. Students who choose to attend the Summer semester almost always find themselves paying out-of-pocket. I'm sorry for the disappointing news.

Q: Looking for computer graphic courses over the summer?
Right now I am majoring in Computer Enginnering. I am interested in taking additional courses focused on Computer Graphics and video game programming ( directX,opengl, etc), over the summer. However, I havent found a good university that offers these summer courses. Any suggestions......

A: The university you are attending should offers something. If they don't you could see about doing an independent study and work with a professor on an individual basis.

Q: Where can I take summer Finance courses?
I am a high school senior with an interest in finance. In the past, I have traded stocks on an amateur level through my parents' account. Last summer I took an internship at a hedge fund, and learned a little about the financial markets. I am in no way an expert and would like to further my understanding of securities trading, analysis, and related endeavors. Are there any summer courses or internships I could take that would teach me these subjects? I live in New York City, but I can go anywhere in the U.S. and am willing to pay for the education. I am 18, but unless there is an age minimum please don't bother telling me I'm too young to be worrying about this. Feel free to email with questions. I appreciate your time and advice.

A: Most public (and some private) universities will allow you to "audit" upper division classes without being officially accepted to the school. The Stern School of Business at NYU has one of the world's most renowned finance departments, I would start there and then go to the smaller state schools and community colleges. Couple things to keep in mind: 1. You will have to pay fees on a per unit basis. I know at USC in Los Angeles, your looking at around $1000 a unit and the typical class is 4 units. If the fees are too much, start at a state school. 2. You need to go through the registration office, not the admissions office to sign up for the class. 3. Find out what class you want to take before going to registration. You can find a course catalog on every school's website.

Q: How can I take summer courses as high school student at Saddleback Community College?
I really want to take a Chemistry course at Saddleback in preparation for my AP Chem course my Junior year. How and when can I sign up? Do I have to pick any form from my High School academic counselor? Also, I do live in CA and this is for SUMMER classes. Sorry I didn't add that before.

A: First, I'm assuming you're in California. Here's the college home page: http://www.saddleback.edu/ Start by selecting the admissions page http://www.saddleback.edu/admissions/ (I believe they will begin accepting applications on April 1 for the summer session) Here's the page that explains concurrent enrollment for K-12 students http://www.saddleback.edu/admissions/k-12.html (looks like you need a signature from your principal on a form they provide at this site) They haven't posted their summer class schedule yet, so keep a look out over the next month or so for that to come out online - or go to the campus bookstore to buy a copy.
