Q: Has anyone tryed ICS learning from Home Course ? Are they any good?
I want to take up some new home learning Course ,Who is it best to go with ? I want to do it this way as i work full time and want to learn in my own time , like when i get home from work ect.

A: I know quite a lot of the home learning people from my work. If you can you give me an idea of what it is you wish to study a I can probably help. However, as a general guideline, don't sign up for a course where the provider is also the examiner, for example own brand diplomas. They won't mean anything in the world of work and it also means that there is no standard to which the provider is expected to reach so the materials are, in my experience, quite shoddy. Have a look in the various review centres on the internet and ignore glowing references written by anybody anonymous as they are frequently written by the provider. Have a look on the providers website and see if they provide links to sample material, If they don't then they are probably of too poor a quality to use for advertising, in which case you can be confident that they are also too poor to study from. For computing I would try computeach, for GCSEs and "A" levels I would try Oxford Open Learning, for higher level courses I would try either the OU or the London External Program.

Q: Looking for a home leanring course on Graphic Design?
Hi, im looking to do a home learning course on graphic design but cant find anything. The uni and college do plenty but I've to go full time and i cant as i work full time so i thought if i could get something i could do at home. Can anyone suggest where i could find a course? Ive contacted learn direct scotland & Open Uni but they have nothing

A: I suggest you to begin with http://www.w3schools.com and search for the course that you need. After taking the course, you can take the evaluation and get a certification from them. That is your best first option I think. After that you can have formal education like from an American or internationally acredited distance learning program. Bye. Q: What information would you like to see included in a home economics course?
The teaching of home economics has pretty much gone by the wayside in a lot of places. If you were to resurrect such a course, what sorts of information would you include in it? I was tempted to post this question in the ‘Education and Reference’ section, but I’m looking for answers from people who have “been there” and are aware of the realities that a home economics course should be designed to address. (X-posted in 'Family and Relationships')

A: I would love to see ( In no particular Order - just as it comes to me) (Except the First 2) 1) BUDGETING & SAVINGS (Balancing a Checkbook, Necessities/Wants, Etc..) 2) Basic Accounting/Financial/Economic Information (Interest-Credit-Etc.) *These first two should be STRESSING Financial Independence* 3) "Green" Cleaning/Pest Control - Vinegar/Baking Soda/Etc.. 4) Basic Sewing - Fixing hems, sewing on buttons 5) Basic Home Fixes - Patching a hole, unclogging a sink/toilet, Etc.. 6) Basic Car Maintance - Checking Tire Pressure, Checking Oil, Replacing Wiper Blades 7) Basic Bicycle Maintance (Especially with Gas Prices) - Oiling the chain, checking brakes, tires, proper fit of Bicycle & Helmet 8) Time Management 9) Basic First Aide 10) Basic Organization 11) Basics of Entrepreneurship (starting a business, running a business, etc..) 12) Basics of Personal Safety 13) Balancing Life/Work/Relaxation (Stressing that importance of having some relaxation for the health of themselves and others) 14) The "Art" of Compromise & Basic Communication (Verbal) That is all I can think of right now.

Q: For anyone who took a home study course?
I would like to have home study on certificate on animal care... I had never done this before but I am wondering if it worth it having a home study? I have a young son and I have no one to babysit if I go to college, anyway, if you have home study, is it worth it? What are you studying?

A: Look into childcare at the community college near you. They may even offer it to students for their children at a discount. I would think some component of the animal care home course would involve working hands on at a vet's office to get experience, but that is just a thought.

Q: Anyone ever do the Haverhill Home Staging course?

A: Hi, I am not familiar with the Haverhill Home Staging course so I cannot comment on their reputation, but I am a member or the following international group. I highly recommend looking into them as an alternative choice. Their courses are very informative and once you become a member, you will receive all the support you need in all areas of redesign and staging and this includes: business forms, pricing, decorating tips, paint suggestions, marketing tips, insurance, etc. They have annual conferences too. Q: How can I find an accredited Home Schooling course?
I want to Home School my son but am not really sure how to go about it. What do I need to do and how much will it cost? Please help me with this I will be very grateful for any advice you can give me.

A: You need not be concerned about accreditation unless your son is at the high school level. If he is, you need to check with your local school to see which homeschool programs they will accept credits from. You should also find out how to legally homeschool in your state. The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) has a site which includes this information along with lots of information on how to get started in homeschooling. The link is below: http://www.hslda.org/Default.asp?bhcp=1 The cost of homschooling varies depending upon the homeschooling curriculum you choose to use. There are expensive and inexpensive homeschool curricula; there are "school in a box" type of curriculum, complete with books and teacher's manuals. Some people choose to create their own curriculum. Others use books from the library or purchase used curriculum off the internet or from homeschool groups. Still others choose to use an online home education program. Depending upon which state your child is in, your child can get a "real" high school diploma even if he does not attend an accredited school. For example, in the state of Illinois, home schools are considered to be legal private schools. Therefore, when my child graduates, I can create or buy a diploma for him, complete with our home school name on it. Do some research on homeschooling via the internet. You will find much available to you and your son.

Q: Are you doing an Home Learning course? or have Done one in the past?
Are you doing an home learning college course? I am wanting to train as a counsellor and was thinking of doing a home learning course to train while i am working. dose anyone have any advice? tips? or suggestions with any home learning coures

A: Most of us are doing our primary/secondary/tertiary education at home. At 15, I've been to school for a grand total of five weeks of my life. I'd say you have to be motivated, disciplined and organised to make a success of any 'home learning course'. You need thorough, strong study habits and study skills; especially, I reckon, if you grew up going to school and so are used to having a teacher around to make sure you know what you need to do and when and how you need to do it! As long as you're disciplined enough about it though, there's absolutely no reason why you can't do it and make a go of it.
