Q: What's the difference between A-Levels and Higher Education courses?
I've applied to stay on at my school's Sixth Form to do three A-Levels. But I was recently looking around a local college website on the Higher Education courses, a Social Studies one which is four years long. You do two years at college doing four subjects, then two years at a University majoring in two. It sounds around the same level, but is there a difference? Which one is the better option? A-Levels seem to be more of a popular, "mainstream" path, but I find this one course attractive to me, too. By the way, I'm talking about the UK system if you're confused.

A: "Higher education" means "university", pretty much - so degrees, HNDs etc. The normal path is to do A-levels or BTECs etc, then progress to higher education. I recommend taking a look at the requirements for this social studies course you're interested in, or calling the college and speaking to one of the tutors. Hope this helps!

Q: What are Masters in Social Studies Education courses like?
Any graduate students in Social Studies Education: -How much of the class is about pedagogy and how much of it do you actually learn about history? -In courses such as, i.e. "Essentials of Reading"...do you learn how to teach reading or how to teach reading history? -Finally, what could you teach at the collegiate level with this Masters?

A: You can easily get more info about this degree here - collegefinder.my-age.net It has info about them, tips to apply and students feedback - so you can compare and choose the best one for you.

Q: What education courses do I need to take to become a phsycologist in the UK?
For everyone that were sending me insults about my spelling: I asked you to answer my question not teach me grammar

A: You need to have good science and mathematics. Biology, mathematics, english, history, economics or similar arts or social science subjects are all useful preparation for a degree course.

Q: I need to know what type of courses or education do I need to be a psychiatrist?
I would like to work in the mental health field, like psychiatry or psychology, but everytime I look at different colleges they do not tell me what courses I need to take to get these type of jobs so this is the question that i have

A: In order to be a Psychiatrist you must first become a Medical Doctor. Psychiatrists are M.D.'s who specialize in mental health and can prescribe medicines to patients. If you are interested in becoming a Psychologist then you will need to get your a Bachelors degree, Masters degree and Doctorate degree in psychology. Psychologists can see patients and do therapy with them but they can not prescribe medications. If you are interested in doing a little less college you could become a Marriage and Family Counselor. These individuals usually have a Bachelors degree in psychology and a Masters in family therapy. Or You could become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) these individuals usually have a Bachelors degree and Masters degree in social work and take the very extensive internship program (aprox 2 years) as well have passed a very challenging test to become licensed (LCSW). These individuals can actually have an independent practice and do therapy similar to a psychologist. Hope this helps.

Q: Where can i take online courses for 'education classes' ?
I'm considering taking a few courses (physical science for elem teachers, etc) and i'd like to take them online. I can't seem to find any schools that offer them online though! Any ideas?

A: You can take online courses from most major universities, junior colleges and online universities. I'm a distant learning student at a major university in Texas. If you check out the websites for many of the universities your interested in and then search for distance learning you will find what degrees and courses are offered online via distance learning. My suggestion is try to become a distance learning student at a well known university or college because there degrees are the same as degrees earned in a classroom setting. Also, most offer government financial aid. I hope this helps.

Q: What courses and level of education is required to join teh Canadian Law Enforcement ?
What courses in High School and University/Collegue does one need to join the Canadian Law Enforcement (The Peel Regional Police to be precise). And how can one apply ? NEED DETAILED ANSWERS.

A: I recommend the Ontario Police Services Act to look at the basic requirements, or the Peel Regional Police website under Now Hiring. Here's what I lifted on website: https://erecruit.peelpolice.on.ca/psp/ps/EMPLOYEE/HRMS/c/HRS_HRAM.HRS_CE.GBL?&SiteId=3000 "Qualifications: Applicants must meet or surpass the following minimum qualifications and standards of the recruitment process of the Peel Regional Police recruitment process. * Be at least 18 years of age. * Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident and legally entitled to work in Canada. * Be in good health and meet the physical and medical requirements of the Peel Regional Police. * Be of good moral character and habits. * Have never been convicted of a criminal offence, or if convicted, have received a full pardon. * Hold an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent. * Possess vision which is no worse than 20/40 (6:12) both eyes combined, and correctable to 20/20 (6:6). No degree of red/green colour deficiency. You MUST be at least six months post-operative of any vision correction surgery. * Possess unaided hearing within the normal range. * Possess a valid driver's licence ( Class "G" ), with full non-restricted driving privileges and have a good driving record. (Prior to employment, a valid Ontario driver's licence will be required.) * Possess a valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate prior to employment." No specific courses needed to enter. But first you have to go to an information seminar and the recruiters will explain the process and answer your questions. What you take at the post secondary level can influence where you specialize, but you need at least 5 years experience with the rank of First Class Constable before you can qualify for specialities. Q: Does anyone know of a college that has courses in child education, development, and psychology?
I'm looking to go to school to hopefully take these courses, and if anyone has had experience with a school they know has all three, I'd be very interested to know about it. I'm hoping to open a day care, and I want to be as well prepared as I can be.

A: I would guess there are many options. I know University of MN Duluth has these options. I graduated from there with a degree in psychology and a minor in early childhood education. With that I was the director of a day care center. I don't know if that combination is still possible though.

Q: What kind of courses will be helpful in making my education year to 16?
I have done 3 years of Bachelor's from India. I want to take admission in US for Master's in Psychology. I found that 16 years of education is necessary to be eligible to apply in US colleges. What course can i take up (diploma preferrably) that would help me to add one more year to my education,so i can become eligible to apply.

A: Use a stepping stone towards your Masters. Apply for a Graduate Diploma in Psychology. This is normally a one-year course that has pretty much the same content as in Masters . Best thing is it will be counted towards your Masters and so you wouldn't need to repeat any content.

Q: What courses should you take in college to better your education or chances of getting into a medical school?
what courses should you take in college that would be beneficial towards your medical school -education

A: First of all, you need to take all of the pre-med reqs (chem, bio, etc get a list from your advisor). Classes that will help you as a physician and prepare you would be classes that require you to do dissections of humans, history of science or medicine, bioethics, and other more philosophical classes geared towards medicine. Taking a minor outside of the sciences is also a great way to expand your world view, and make you a better doctor.

Q: pros and cons in taking up general education courses like english, psyc, or speech to receive a college degree?
Argue for or against the requirement of general education courses, such as English, psychology, speech, and humanities, to receive a college degree...this is the more precise way to phrase my question. thanks

A: Not sure what you mean? You gotta take them if it's required so I can't see how there's a con involved. Otherwise, you simply don't graduate. Note that sometimes you can choose a class among a group that's it in. For instance, psych may not be required per-se, but a social science requirement is required.

Q: Why does the Missouri Board of Higher Education require courses for students?

A: Because the Federal Government requires them to do so.

Q: Are A-level courses equivalent to college prep courses or honors courses in the US education system?
I would like to apply the same question to IB courses.

A: It depends on what school you decide to attend. Once you have your transcript evaluated the school will decide if they meet the criteria. You stand a better chance with an international university. Two that I looked at were Florida International in Miami and Old dominion University in Virginia.
