Q: What university course is necessary to become an airline pilot?
I am 16 years and old and studying Maths, Physics and Geography at AS in sixth form. I've been wanting to become an airline pilot for a number of years now, I'm aware of the requirements in terms of training I need and eyesight etc, but what university course is best to study if any? It would be great if you could tell me the best universities for that course and entrance requirements also. Thanks in advance. I live in England so a course in England would be preferable.

A: You can get a pilot's license with almost any degree. That said, it is very expensive, and hard to get the flight hours. The two places to consider for college would be Embry-Riddle and the US Air Force Academy (where they will also fix your eyes so you can fly). Embry-Riddle is expensive and the Air Force Academy, while free, gives you a commitment to the Air Force afterwards. Air Force ROTC and OTS is similar to the academy, but the odds of getting a pilot slot aren't as good. If neither of those things work for you, then you can try to get a private pilot license, but it is a lot harder to get hired anywhere. EDIT: Wasn't aware that you were from England when I originally posted. That said, I would presume the best way t do so in England would also be through their Air Force, though I am not sure over there. Sorry

A: There isnt really a Univerity for being a Pilot. It is mainly training and number of Hours You first need yoour basic licence Then you do extra training to convert from say 2 engined prop to single jet. You need a conversion for each type of Aircraft. You then need to bang in the hours, thats why many trainee pilots offer to pilot other peoples aircraft to build up hours. You can then start to approach Airlines

Q: Can I Get into a university course if i completed a similar collage course?
I want to get into a registred nurse course in university and i was wondering if i can get in, if i completed the practical nursing program. cuz i already completed the practical nurse course in collage.

A: You will need to apply just like people with no nursing experiece in mayn cases. You may need to take some prequistes at their school if they do not transfer from your community college. There are some programs specifically for LPNs trying to become RNs. Even these may be repetitive for you. Practical nursing, 2 year nursing, and 4 year nursing programs are each designed differenlty, so you would not be able to enter a program like you had already completed the first year. Look into opitions at colleges around you and set up a meeting with someone from their department. Everyone has their own requirements and prefrences. Good luck!

Q: What University course do i need to study to be a psychologist?
i am currently a secondary school student and wish to be a psychologist when i'm older. what A level subjects need to be taken and what university course needs to be studied??

A: You probably don't need to take Psychology A-Level, although obviously such an introduction to the subject is helpful for when you get to university. You need to contact your school Careers Office/Adviser and they will be able to advise you so that you make the appropriate choices for your A-Levels. I would also advise you check out the Times Good University Guide (see link below): http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/education/good_university_guide/ This has a link to every university in the UK and on each university's site you need to look at their undergraduate prospectus. You can search in the list by subject so you can pull up a list of all the universities which offer Psychology as an undergraduate degree. You can also check out what A-Level entry requirements (eg how many points and whether these include specific subjects) each course has. Take note that there are different branches of Psychology (eg Clinical Psychology) so you need to look carefully at each course to see what pathway they offer. Some unis may offer a BA (Bachelor of Arts) Psychology degree, some may offer a BSc (Bachelor of Science) - this in itself may play a part in determining how useful the particular degree is in becoming a psychologist. Do your research now and the rewards will pay dividends! Good luck!

Q: What university course(s) shall I take to become a Prosecution lawyer?
It's probably a year too early to think about it, but I'll leave it until last minute otherwise! I was wondering what courses I would need to take at University to become a Prosecution lawyer or a Defence lawyer. Other really useful information would be what other things (such as skills/qualities/work experience) I would need to get a job afterwards and whether it would benefit my course. As would knowing what Universities specialise in law in the UK. Thank you very much!! :))

A: You need to do a law degree. Make sure that it is s fully qualifying law degree and you will graduate with an LLB because anything else will mean you would have to do a conversion course. When you graduate you will need to do the Bar Vocational Course to become a Barrister or the Legal Practice Course to become a solicitor. If you do the LPC then you'll need to spend a couple of years training in a solicitor's office before you are fully qualified. If you do the BVC then you will need to get a pupillage at a law chambers. The chambers wil decide at the end of your pupillage if they want to keep you on permanantly or not. Most pupillages last for a year. Be aware that you will find it INCREDIBLY tough to get a pupillage if you haven't done mini-pupillages during your time at university. Before you can do the BVC you need to join one of the four inns of court and can only be called to the bar after you have passed your BVC and completed 12 qualifying sessions within the court. The BVC currently costs around £12,000 (rough estimate. Can be between 10 and 15 grand) and the LPC won't be a lot cheaper so make sure you look into it fully before you commit. Unless you are one of the very few people who are hired by the Crown Prosecution Service then you will not specify as to whether you work in defence or prosecution. I happen to think it is a good thing to do both as your advocacy skills will improve for both sides and you will learn what the opposition is likely to question you on. Good luck.

Q: Is it possible to do a part time university course, and work nearly full time?
Im interested in doing a part time university course in social work, but need to work enough to keep my flat. The course is at the univeristy of sussex and i live about a hour and 1/2 away so if it involves going into university for more than 2 days a week I think Im going to struggle!

A: you may want to check into some online courses. With the economy the way it is currently, most people cant afford to just go to school. I just finished my masters online at Indiana State University. I was working full time and going to school full time on line. I was able to take more classes because there was no traveling time and I could take my classes when I wanted to it worked like a dream, ( but it's not for everyone) Good Luck, and I wish you much success!

Q: I need help with finding an university course?
I want to attend to an university instead of an institute. I want to know if there's any Florida state university with fashion design course available, for example FIU or UF?

A: Montclair State University in NJ has exactly what you are looking for. It's in a nice area and there is a train on campus that takes students right into NYC... Which also means tons of class trips to the Fashion District in the fashion classes! http://www.montclair.edu/Arts/dept/artdesign/ad03.html#04 Florida State University offers a degree in Textiles and Consumer Sciences. Keiser University has an associates degree in fashion design and merchandising. Lynn University offers a Fashion Management Program. There are really school school like what you want in Florida! Make sure you don't attend one of the Art Institutes... I almost went to the one in Ft.Lauderdale for fashion and decided not to when I discovered you cannot transfer their credits if you decided to go someplace else!

i am currently sitting my gcses, and have already filled in my a-level application form, i am very interested in public relations. i would like to know what kind of course to look for ( preferably in dundee university ) for me to accomplish this. (: thanks.

A: I knew a girl who's major was Communications, who went into PR upon graduation. So, I guess this would be the degree you'd want to obtain.

Q: How do university course sequences work?
My Degree plan at the University of Houston includes a global studies sequence which includes INTB 3350, INTB 3351, INTB 3352, INTB 3353, and GENB 4350. Does that mean I have to take these courses in the same order or the order doesnt matter? I mean, Can I take INTB 3353 in the first semester and 3351 in the next? http://www.bauer.uh.edu/Undergraduate/degreeplans.htm

A: Usually, a course sequence must be taken in order. Sometimes though you can take the upper levels out of order as long as you've completed the prerequisites. Look at the course catalog http://www.uh.edu/academics/catalog/bcb/intb_courses.html and notice the prerequisites for each course. 3351 and 3353 only require junior standing so one doesn't have to come before the other. 4350 requires that you first take 3335 so you'd have to take the 3335 before the 4350. Always go by what the prerequisites say in the catalog and not what anyone tells you in conflict.

Q: Has anyone ever had to repeat part of their course at university?
Im having to go back and repeat part of my course. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Did you get through in the end. What happens if you mess up on the repeats. The university cant allow people to keep repeating modules. Has anyone failed modules, and had to go back to university to take up substitute modules? Did you do OK and get through?

A: I'm having to repeat my second year for the second time due to circumstances outwith my control. As long as you work with your tutors then they will help you to complete your course. This kinda thing happens regularly, and trust me, they are used to helping people in this type of situation. Just trust yourself, work hard, and you'll get there.

Q: What is a university Linguistics course like?
If you have taken a first-year university level Linguistics course, can you tell me what it is like? Especially from UWO. I don't know whether I would be interested in it as my elective. Thanks!

A: Oookay - Let's see - you study a little psychology, and learn about the brain and language. Stuff like head injuries to various spots that cause different dysphasias. Also, development of language - the "critical state" somewhere between 6-12 years old or something, where you language centers become fixed. Examples of wild children, foreign language acquisition at various ages, etc... Then... semantics! The various ways sentences go together; how grammar works. You'll probably have to try to define the "grammars" for lots of languages, after being given a key for the words and their part of speech and all. Finally - phonology. How the mouth and tongue shapes sounds and all. You also learn the standard purely phonetic alphabet. That was my freshman linguistics course anyway - fall term before last. It was fun! A bit like math or logic. Good luck!

Q: Apply in a Psychology course in university for undergraduate?
I heard that it's competitive, but most of universities I have seen only require ABB A-level or something like that. Really, does Psychology course in univeristy require much work experience like Medicine course?

A: No - not really. It just depends on the University. If it's an ivy-league, then yes!!! Otherwise, it doesn't require as much experience.

Q: what A levels do i need to study in order to do a university course in advertising? is psychology important?
i dont want to do psychology in A level but will i have to so that i can get into an Advertising course in University? leaving aside UCAS points etc.

A: I don't think it really matters too much what A-Levels you do so long as you get good marks. Most Universities look at your ability to study rather than what you have studied before for most of their courses with exceptions being training to be a doctor or something where you need a science/maths qualification. Psychology would be useful to get a better understanding of the way peoples minds work, maybe also English and Sociology or maybe Media? If you're not sure, speak to your local University and ask what qualifications they ask for in order for you to study a degree in Advertising... they will be able to let you know for sure I just did a quick search on yahoo which brought up Coventry University as having a BA degree in Advertising. They just ask for: 5 GCSEs at grade A-C including Mathematics and English Language and 260 Tariff points or equivalent qualifications. So no specific mention of A-Levels
