Q: How to get into the University of Notre Dame?
I am 14, and I am just wondering if there are any people out there who recently got accepted to the University of Notre Dame. I am curious as to what they are looking for in their applicants, so I can start getting involved!
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
A: I got into ND with a 3.74 GPA and a 1980 SAT. However I decided I did not want to spend my college years in the middle of remote Indiana in a depressed city and went to college in the more cosmopolitan Boston area and attended Holy Cross just west of Boston.
Q: Is it possible for someone with terrible grades and attendance to get a full ride to Notre Dame University?
There is a girl at my high school claiming that she got a full ride to Notre Dame. But her attendance is terrrible and her grade point average is something like a 2.5. I just think she's lying but I wanted to know if anybody knew if it was possible.
A: Not unless she's good at a sport. The "her parents gave money" argument doesn't work because ND only gives out need based financial aid. Logically, if they had the money to get her in they would have the money to pay for her education. Or perhaps it's not the famous University of Notre Dame (Fighting Irish, The Gipper, etc.) that she got in to, in which case who cares?
Q: Still possible to attend University of Notre Dame with 4500 EFC?
I was wondering if it's still even possible to attend the University of Notre Dame with my low EFC. I understand they meet full need...but how much does it come in loans and my dad's job is unstable...so I might not get to go after all...I'm wondering if anyone out there has been in a similar situation or can give me some idea as to the likeliness or how the financial aid package may look.
A: unlinke what vanessae said, the lower the number the more chance you have of getting more money for school, but that doesn't if you have a high number mean you won't get anything .. it all depends on when you applied and how much the school and state usually give out in scholarships and grants. Best way to know is to speak U of Notre Dame financial aid office and they might be able to give a better idea of how much you might get from the state and school.. as for the federall Pell grants they're getting higher next year thx to a bill signed by the president so that would be more help.
the EFC stands for Expected Financial Contribution from you and your parents
Q: Admissions to the University of Notre Dame?
This question is specifically for anyone who has been accepted/denied to the University of Notre Dame after applying for regular action. When did you receive your letter (an approximate)? I know they send them out in early April at the latest but I was curious to know if they generally send them out earlier. Thanks!
A: I think I got mine late April.
Q: What is the best route from University of Notre Dame to Purdue University?
I go to Notre Dame and want to visit a friend at Purdue for a weekend. I don't have a car and was wondering if there's a sort of bus or train that is nearby in both locations. I'm willing to take taxis for short distances (i.e. a taxi to a train/bus stop near ND).
A: I know that both South Bend and Indianapolis have rail service to Chicago, but that might be a bit out of the way. Maybe see if Greyhound has a bus going there. Other than that I can't think of anything. Post something on the ND online forum and see if you can hitch a ride off someone.
Q: How bad is the weather in South Bend, IN? Is is worth it to go to Notre Dame University then?
I find 50 degrees F really cold. Do you think I'll survive at Notre Dame?
A: South Bend is a horrible location weatherwise average temps in the 20s from November through March. The city is terribly depressed with manufacturing jobs long gone and several hours from Chicago. The campus is isolated from the city with huge wrought iron gates to keep the riff raff out. Students rarely leave campus since there is really nowhere to go.
Q: How tough is it to get into the University of Notre Dame if you are a legacy student compared to if you aren't?
Assume the person is a legacy student but they also fit all the other criteria. Percentages would be nice.
A: findcollege.hotusa.org - try this site. It has info about getting into University of Notre Dame, tips to apply and grades requirements.
Q: what does it take to get into notre dame university?
what does it take [act, sat scores, average grades, etc] to get into notre dame university???
A: From the Notre Dame website:
"What kind of credentials do I need to be competitive in the applicant pool?
Admission to the University is competitive. Admissible students possess strong academic records and are usually ranked at or near the top of their high school class. The average student admitted for the class of 2011 was ranked in the top 5% of his or her graduating class. These students also scored well on Standardized Tests. For the class of 2011, 50% scored between 1350 and 1490 on the SAT and between 31 and 34 on the ACT. 25% of the class admitted scored above those ranges. Students admitted to Notre Dame also build strong extracurricular records and are dedicated, passionate leaders in their communities and are evaluated positively by their guidance counselors and teachers. Finally, students competitive in our applicant pool reveal themselves and their personalities in well-written personal statements. Rather than tell us facts about themselves, they show us their uniqueness in a variety of different ways."
Applicants to Notre Dame are encouraged to take the most demanding curriculum offered at their high schools. Usually this includes four years of English, math, foreign language, science, and history. The minimum requirements, however, are as follows:
* For students intending to enter the College of Arts and Letters or the Mendoza College of Business, excluding the Arts and Lettrs premedical/predental program and the combined Arts-Engineering program, the 16 required units must be distributed as follows: 4 units of English; 3 units of math, including Algebra, Advanced Algebra, and Geometry; 2 units of foreign language; 2 units of history; and 3 units of additional history, science, foreign language, mathematics, and English courses.
* For students intending to enter the College of Science, the College of Engineering, the School of Architecture, the Arts and Letters premedical/predental program, or the combined Arts-Engineering program, the 16 required units must be distributed as follows: 4 units of English, 4 units of mathematics, including algebra, advanced algebra, geometry, and advanced mathematics (e.g., trigonometry, pre-calculus, or calculus); 2 units of foreign language; 1 unit of chemistry; 1 unit of physics; and 2 units of additional history, science, foreign language, mathematics, and English courses.
We will accept scores from either the "old" SAT I, last administered in January 2005, or scores from the "new" SAT I, which will first be administered in March 2005. We will accept the highest Verbal score and the highest Math score from either test and we will not require the Writing score.
We will also accept scores from the ACT and do not require the writing portion of the ACT.
We ask that our applicants adhere to our policy of sending one letter of evaluation from a teacher they have had in a core academic discipline during high school. We encourage students to ask the classroom teacher who is most familiar with their work ethic, classroom performance, and character. The student's high school guidance counselor also has the option of sending a letter of evaluation along with the "Counselor's Report," which is available through the online or paper application.
Many schools use different GPA scales and computation methods, so it is difficult to give standardized information regarding Grade Point Averages. We do not recalculate GPAs for our admissions decisions. Instead, we rely much more heavily on class rank when determining how competitive a student is within his/her school. Competitive students are near the top of their class, no matter how their GPA is computed."
Hope that helped - for more info, visit the page below. You'll find information like this on the school website of any college or university that you're interested in.
Q: Is the University of Notre Dame a good school?
I'm intersted in going to Notre Dame to major in English and Physcology and I wanted to know if it was a good school, as far as teachers, campus, ect. I'm escpecially interested in their LL.M. in International and Comparative Law program where you study in England.
A: Wow. Notre Dame is an awesome school.
Q: What are the Requirements for University of Notre Dame?
What does my SAT score have to be? Out of 1600, and 2400. What about my GPA?
A: Their are no requirements if your wallet is fat enough..
Q: Just how bad is South Bend, Indiana where University of Notre Dame is located?
I have read some terrible things on the web about the terrible crime, horrific tenements, and snowy weather and the lack of great restaurants and nightlife. Is it really as bad as they say?
A: I spent five years in South Bend, IN. No sun for 40 days straight; below-freezing temperatures four months every year (three layers of clothing in the morning!); one to two decent restaurants at the most; no place to stroll; only one mall where everyone goes on Saturday. I have now been in Miami for five years now, and I pray every day that I do not return to a place like South Bend. Sure, I could live in a palatial home there with what I make, but who cares? Also, I enjoy people down here not smiling at me for no apparent reason or being insincere. I would prefer having someone tell me to go to hell on a bad day than being two faced.
Q: What grades do you need to get into the University of Notre Dame?
And what can I do to make my admissions essay stand out from the rest of the group?
A: The best. Most students at Notre Dame graduated in the top 10% of their class. Check out the Admissions website to see what sort of statistics they have from the incoming class. Also I found the section on "evaluation criteria" interesting (see sources).
As for your essay, you're on the right track. Is there something about you that's different? Unique? Do you have a great sense of humor which you can reflect through your writing? Did you grow up in China? You have to think about the fact that everyone else applying is a valedictorian, student body president, all-conference quarterback, double legacy who got a perfect ACT, that's a given, so what do YOU have that sets you apart? If it helps, my brother wrote an essay about how bad his teeth are and got in.
A trip to the Grotto couldn't hurt either.

Q: How about handing Northern Ireland over to Notre Dame University. They are "The Fighting Irish"?
How about handing Northern Ireland over to the Irish? Britain will never do that, because there is too much money to be made there. So I got an idea, how about handing it over to Notre Dame University and let them make money, and put it to better use, like funding education.
A: Three things:
-I was under the impression that Britain was all about popular sovereignity, that is to say, they will cede Northern Ireland to the Republic when a majority of the citizens no longer wish to be a part of the UK
-Northern Ireland isn't a source of income for England, last I heard it's a ₤3bn annual drain on the British GDP
-it's UND, not NDU
Q: I really need a Notre Dame University email for facebook?
I really need a Notre Dame email for facebook, I think my father is a teacher there, but I can't look at his profile, b/c its private, but if I have a ND email, I can join that network. Anyone have a facebook account at ND they don't use that I can use?
A: You can look up faculty there...Just find his name...
