Q: Can I transfer to the University of Minnesota with these grades?
After a semester at a private university, with a 2.65 GPA, an 1890 sat and a 27 ACT, plus 16 credits worth of AP... Could I get into the college of liberal arts at the University of Minnesota?

A: It is likely. However, the University of Minnesota is getting more and more selective (mostly because it can be). Apparently this years Freshmen were the smartest group CLA has had at the U. Good luck! You should definitely apply. It doesn't cost that much to apply for the U, and the experience is amazing. It is diverse, there are many class selections, and you can make the school as small or large as you want it to be. I am a current student there and love it! Best of luck to getting accepted!

Coming from a New Jersey Comunity college. Would a 3.2 gpa be good enough? Associates in business to pre-pharm

A: The easiest method to find out info is to contact a student. You can start looking for contact information for Minnesota colleges here. http://www.collegereviewed.com/Minnesota-Colleges-Universities.html The students always to know what's up better than outsiders since they spend so much time on campus.

Q: deferred admissions from University of Minnesota twin cities and University of wisconsin madison?
I got a deferred admissions for both the U of M twin cities and the U of W madison. I was wondering what the chances of getting an admissions from each college. Thanks!!!

A: Sometimes you can find out the percentage of students who get in who were on the waiting list. I couldn't find it listed in the reference books I have. The problem with being a freshman at college this year, is this is one of the biggest high school graduating classes (across the nation). Much larger than it has been for years. So now you have many more kids competing for the same amount of spots at colleges. At one very small college my daughter has applied to they have 4000 more application this year than the norm- they are only admitting in 1/4 of them. You may be able to get an answer if you call up the admissions office at the universities and ask what percent do they feel will get in from the wait list.

Q: College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota?
Anything to say about it? I was accepted to attend it next fall. Should I go there? If you went to the U, did you like it? Its so big, I would feel so overwhelmed. How are the classes, teachers, & homework? I don't know what to major in also. I did want to be a dentist. If I go there, do I need to go to a different school in the University? To become a dentist? Yup, Its the twin cities. The other option is community college at Inver Hills.

A: If it is the Twin-Cities campus that is great national university. Don't let the size overwhelm you, just live in the dorm and meet a community of friends. Also, join study groups and clubs so it does not seem so big. What other options do you have besides UM?

Q: What University of Minnesota class fulfills English Composition requirement? ?
My high school counselor said I need to take an English Composition class to cover 12th grade english. So whats a course at the Univeristy of Minnesota twin cities, that covers this requirement?

A: Engl 1021V I think that's the abbreviation for the course. You want to take Introduction to the Essay, because this will be writing intensive and introduces you to writing from sources.

Q: Before this year when was the last time the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers made the NCAA Final Four?
Tournament?

A: It was 1997. They lost to Kentucky 78-69 in the national semifinals.

Q: How to get into University of minnesota?
well im going to be to be a high school freshman in the fall =]and im in summer school, not becuase I did bad or anything but anyways, my teacher was telling us that in order for a university to even look at your application you have to have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, is that true? and if this is true do they count all four years of high school (gpa) and take the average or just your senior year (gpa) b/c right now im really confused. So does this mean i have to work hard all four years? please im so confused XD

A: Each university has its own policies... You and your parents can call the admission office at Universities you are interested in attending and ask them what criteria is important in their selection process.. Each will have different criteria that include GPA scores, SAT scores and extra curricular activities... Freshman - Junior GPA is the most important, but if your grades fall too low in your Sr. year it can affect final selection.... And even if you do not meet the criteria, you can attend other Universities or Community Colleges and then transfer to U of Minn if you prove yourself... Good luck and study hard...

Q: I'm applying to the University of Minnesota for the animal science?
and i'm currently in canada, does anyone know what kind of % average i should have to get in? and how important are extracurricular and work experience in the field when they consider your application?

A: Is this for undergraduate work? Because what I am about to say is only true for those getting a bachelor's degree. Minnesota is a little different than other states. States like California, Michigan, Virginia and North Carolina have lots of public colleges and one premier school. Minnesota opted for a few small colleges and one large university. It is a great university -- but it is not nearly as selective as other great public universities. Still -- about 75% of students get 1100+ on their SATs (out of 1600) and almost all students graduated in the top half of their high school classes. The university is huge -- and I mean HUGE. But the Ag school is on the St Paul campus which is much smaller and friendlier. It is about three miles from the main campus. Princeton Review has all kinds of statistics on US universities. I've included the link below. Good Luck.

Q: Anyone familiar with the University of Minnesota?
I just wanted some insight on the school. I came and visited back in the summer and really did not get a good feel for the university since school was out. I would be a transfer student. My three major concerns are the class sizes, ethic diversity among the student body, and friendliness of the professors and students in general. Any help would be great. Also, how is the workload from professors. I'm not lazy but I don't like a professor who just gives exessive work that they would even do. Thanks! I meant "not even do" sorry!

A: Minnesota went in a different direction from states like Michigan, California, Virginia and North Carolina. Those states decided to have lots of public universities with one as the premier institution that would be extremely selective. Instead, Minnesota went for a few small public universities and one huge university that would be well funded for research -- but not as selective as those other states. Consequently, you have big name faculty, top rated graduate programs, great facilities -- and an undergraduate population tha tranges from mediocre to genius. Minnesota is a school where you can take tough classes and get an education as good as you would get at Harvard. But it is also a school where you can skate through without taking anything difficult & get a degree without taxing yourself too much. Introductory classes tend to be big -- but advanced classes are much smaller. In those classes, it is possible to get to know your professors. Minnesota is less diverse than many other states -- and that is reflected in the student body. It is 79% white, 5% Black, 10% Asian , 2% Hispanic and 1% Native American. But it is a VERY BIG place -- so even with those small percentages, there are plenty of people of all types. Minnesotans are very friendly on the whole.

Q: University of Minnesota : rank in USA in chemical Engineering ?
Hello. I am tired to read opposite answer in websites. What is the rank of the University of Minnesota in the field of chemical Engineering. Don't give me links. It has ever been done. Thank you

A: University of Minnesota has one of the best graduate chemical engineering programs in the country. US News ranks their graduate program at #2 behind MIT and its tied with Caltech and UC Berkeley. Since University of Minnesota has one of the top graduate programs for chemical engineering, I think they would have an undergraduate program that is just as great.
