Q: How safe is it to live at the University of Maryland College Park?
I am considering going to the University of Maryland College Park but I have heard that it is not the safest place to go to school, i was just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of the subject?

A: it's not the safest school in the world but it not horrible...just don't go walking by yourself at night in some shady alley.

Q: Will University of Maryland accept someone with a GED and a 3.8 GPA in community college?
I know other things are factored in, but generally what are the chances of someone with a GED and an associates degree in Computer Science (3.8 GPA) getting accepted into the University of Maryland at College Park?

A: The best method to find out info is to find a student. You can locate some contact information for Maryland colleges here. http://www.collegereviewed.com/Maryland-Colleges-Universities.html The students always to know what's up better than outsiders since they get to experience the classes and the lifestyle.

Q: Why Did the University of Maryland put me into the Sping Semester instead of Fall semester?
I'm a senior in High school from West Virginia, and I applied for University of Maryland College Park, and fortunately I got accepted, but they put me in the spring semester of 2010 while I applie for the fall semester of 2009, why? They said it's due to space limitations, but it's only March now, it is because I'm an out state student and they want to reserved some space for their in-state students? Please be specific in your answers.

A: Maryland has very limited spots to accept all applicants. I would be very happy if I were you that I got accepted in the University. The allocation of spots are usually divided from incoming freshman (in-state), freshman (out of state), transfer (instate), transfer out of state.. since this is a state school, priority are given to instate (more spots available). I would spend my fall semester taking transferable classes in a community college because 100-level (freshman) courses are really packed here at the university, and its no fun being stuck in big lecture classes. visit www.tce.umd.edu to find which classess you can take that will transfer to UMD. i would also visit the website of your intended college (major) to check their curriculum. I know a lot of people who applied and NOT even received a delayed entry to the university. The university is awesome all-year long, and one semester wouldnt harm your experience at UMD. good luck!

Q: Does University of Maryland have a good Engineering Program?
I'm living in West Virginia, and I applied for University of Maryland College Park. I'm majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I know it is a awsome college, but i'm just wondering if it has a decent Engineering Program. What's the rank of their Engineering Program in the US, is it better than West Virginia University?

A: The University of Maryland has a much better engineering program than West Virginia University. Their graduate program is ranked 17th, while West Virginia's is ranked 38th. These rankings do usually mesh down to the strength of the undergraduate program as well! I wish you the best of luck at whichever school you attend!

Q: How credible is the Univeristy Of Maryland University College (UMUC) credible?
Is UMUC seen in the same way as Universit of Phoenix or Strayer? Or is it better because it is affiliated with the University of Maryland?

A: It's seen as better, because it's connected to U Maryland, which is one of the stronger unis in the US. Penn State is another that offers a lot online. If you want more, also look at UMass Amherst, Northeastern, Worcester Polytechnic, Southern New Hampshire University, Drexel, U Florida, U Nebraska, Kansas State, U Texas, Tiffin University, Utica - all are reputable, offline unis that offer lots of online degrees. Some of those are really great, because you simply graduate from, for example, Northeastern, not "Northeastern Online"; or from "UMass Amherst" just like everyone else there; so no one need know you even did it online.

Q: I got the admission for spring 2010 in university of maryland instead of fall 2009?
I just got a letter from university of maryland which said i got the admission for spring 2010 but they can't offer me fall admission due to the space limitation. Is it true? or that's just an excuse to make me feel better, the real reason is that im not good enough? Please tell me. Thanks!

A: hey i got accepted into spring as well and i did my research and its just that all fall accepted freshmen had a stronger academic record but remeber its hard to get into that shool so all students accepted in the spring have good grades as well just not as good as fall freshmen but still good enough to get accepted into the school. once the senior class graduates after the fall semester and people go off the their study abroad programs there will be room and thats why we are admitted in spring. Dont be mad i was mad for about a week but once you step back you realize that YOU GOT INTO THE UNIVERSITY so be happy

Q: What unweighted GPA is needed for virtually guaranteed admission to University of Maryland Pre Med?
What unweighted GPA is needed for virtually guaranteed admission to University of Maryland Pre Med?

A: There is none. Just because you have a high GPA doesn't mean you're getting in. They will no doubt take an alumnus' kid that contributes money with a lower GPA. It's all about the bottom line.

Q: I want to know if i have a chance to get into University of Maryland-College Park?
I have little doubt but i would like some opinions on this matter. I just started 12th grade, i have a G.P.A of 3.54 currently. I have a pretty low SAT score of 1300 on the new version out of 2400. Hopefully i can get that up. All of my classes were honors except my freshmen year. Including taking Geometry, Algebra 2, and trig in one year. Right now i am taking A.P. literature/English, A.P. Calculas, and A.P. Biology. I am in the National Honor Society, interact club, in the computer video club. Also volunteered at my school library, consisently have made honor roll. I have over 150 hours of community service currently but should have at least 400-500 before the school year ends. I participated in the chemathon in 11th grade, which is a competition in which you have a group of 6 representing your school in University of Maryland. Our group were the first to participate from our school. I also have an interview for my father's hospital which will give me experience and give me hours.

A: I think you have a great chance at getting in, although that SAT score is not as good. I would try getting it up or taking the ACT. Definitely try to take it within the next couple of months -- say, before December. But don't worry too much... your GPA and extracurriculars look great! Just do something about your standardized test scores. Good luck!

Do you think I need a car to get around College Park or for any other reason? Thanks very much in advance!

A: You don't need one

Q: can i get into the university of maryland college park?
Hi, I have a 3.02 unweighted with a 3.52 weighted. My SAT score is a 2310 though, and I have year round sports and volunteer work at numerous hospitals. My GPA is pretty low but do I have a shot at University of Maryland College Park?? thank you!

A: my friend had less than a 2.5 GPA and had a SAT score of 2290 and was offered full scholorships to ivy league schools. so not only will you get into Maryland you can get into any college you want in the US with scholorships for most of them.

Q: Is a UMUC degree the same as a regular University of Maryland degree?
I just wanted to know if a UMUC degree is the same as a regular UM degree. Also would the diploma just say University of Maryland or would it say UMUC.?

A: A degree from UMUC is not the same as a degree from University of Maryland-College Park (UMCP). UMUC accepts everybody while UMCP has a selective admissions process. A degree from UMCP is worth more than one from UMUC. However, UMUC is a good leader in adult education. If you are a recent high school grad or just a little older, don't go to UMUC. Try for UMCP.
