Q: Is the University of Illinois at chicago a good dentistry school?
Rank the schools in order for best dentistry school. Also rank in order of just which schools are the best University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Northern Illinois University (NIU) Illinois State University (ISU) I have a GPA of 4.88 on a 5.00 scale Is that good enough to get into all of these schools?

A: NIU and ISU do not have dental schools. Only two schools in IL have dental schools, and they are UIC and SIUE.

Q: University of Illinois at Urbana Champaigne or Milwaukee School of Engineering?
I have been accepted to both universities and am planning on going into the field of mechanical engineering. I was wondering, if you have had any experience at either one of the schools, which one is better in terms of quality of the classes, staff, campus and all the regular stuff. Also, I have been accepted to University of Illinois at Chicago and Illinois Institute of Technology. If you have any thoughts on those schools, that would be deeply appreciated.

A: I don't know much about Milwaukee School of Engineering but I am a student at U of Illinois and I know that its engineering program is one of the best in the country.

Q: Is it a good plan to aim for Stanford, use University of Illinois as second choice, and college of dupage?
as a safety school? I'm only in 8th grade and my plans will probably change...but I'm aiming to major in psychology, or law (whichever I find interest in as I learn more about each). Take into consideration the education that each of the colleges provide in psychology (mainly that, not so much law), dorm conditions (bugs? food? air conditioning/heating?), overall ranking, and anything else you find to be important. I'm planning on going to standford, then University of Illinois/chicago if not accepted, then using College of Dupage as safety school. I'm not sure if any of those colleges provide good education in psychology...so yea. If you could tell me at least 2 colleges (one to aim for, one for safety) that provide solid education in psychology...thanks

A: You have a while before you apply to college, but it's great to see that you are taking an interest so early. Stanford, of course, has an excellent program for psych or poli sci or w.e. other social science major. Same with Illinois, but I'm unsure about your third chance. As for the best for those majors, I would say Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Cornell, etc. for pysch and for law I would go to Georgetown.

Q: I want to go to University of Illinois. Is there a way i can attain residency?
I'll be applying to college in about a year and a half. I have a friend that lives there. Can i just tell my friend to register my name under their house, and pay the taxes required? I really want to go and i think i would have a more decent shot if i was a resident. And where should i call or ask to register my name under their house? Please don't answer by telling me to call the university of illinois. I'll do that last. thanks!

A: You need to prove residency by showing that you have lived there for at least one year: job record, rental agreement, etc.

Q: If I were to transfer to University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, would my GPA transfer with my classes?
At the University of Illinois, if I transfer a year full of classes, will only the credits transfer, or will the grades attached to the credits transfer to? That is, if I have a GPA of 3.5 now at my current university and I transfer all my credits, will my 3.5 follow me, or will my GPA start over?

A: No. In all the schools I've been to, the GPA is only an accumulation of the classes you took as that particular school. Believe me, I wish it was that easy! But it isn't, your GPA starts over.

Q: Does the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Superscore the SAT or ACT?
I am extremely interested in the University of Illinois and I would like someone to clear something up. I heard that they do not superscore the SAT (nothing is said about the ACT), but with the new selective score report, do they expect you to send every one of your scores even if it casts you in a poor light. Different websites say different things, so if you would post where you got the information, that would be greatly appreciated.

A: Why don't you contact the admissions office of the school directly./

Q: to get into University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, should I have high GPA or Hard classes?
i want to go to University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, but I dont know which is better, having easy classes and high GPA, or hard classes with a lower GPA? I am a sophomore, and I went with a lot of honors courses, and I'm not doing so well right now. Will that kill the chances of me getting into this university? I probably have a 3.2 or 3.3 right now.

A: UIUC is a well respected ranked univ....I wud say having hard classes with a little lower gpa is better....because in the end its wht you learn in the course that matters....in the long run this will help...your gpa score will probabaly help you to get internship quickly...but I think when it comes for a regular full time job....people will be interested in looking wht you have done in your projects rather than your GPA. BUT....dont get a GPA below 3....I think you should try to maintain your gpa at 3.5. Good Luck!

Q: Can i get admission in University of Illinois at urbana champaign?
i got 24 on act and my gpa is 3.0, i wanna kno is it possible to get admission in University of Illinois at urbana champaign. i am interested in the Engineering field. I think they neeed 27 on act but i when i was lookin at their site, there are also some students who got 22 or below. Plz give some answers because i want to go there so badly. thanks alot

A: Did you lead your football team to a State Championship? Do you have a 96% free throw percentage? Did you compete on the US Olympic Team? Because with a 24 on the ACT and a GPA of 3.0, that's what it takes to get into Champaign. Don't waste your time getting into Engineering. They will only take a 27 if you graduate at the top of your class. In fact, the ACT range for the middle half of the Engineering class was 30-32, and were in the top 12% of their classes. You would need 6 more points on the ACT to reach this mark. U of I looks at a COMBINATION of class rank and ACT scores - with this in mind, you can assume that the person who got BELOW a 30 on the ACT was ABOVE the 88 percentile in their graduating class. I doubt that a 3.0 GPA puts you near the top 10% of your class. You will seldom see someone below BOTH ranges... unless they possess artistic talent or are on a sports scholarship. Even if you DO get in, you will be at the VERY bottom of your class. You will probably struggle for a while, and cannot expect to pull in the grades that will allow you to transfer to an engineering program later. Sorry. You are not U of I Engineering Material. However, by all means, pursue a degree in this field. Illinois has a great set of public universities in addition to Champaign, and a large number of private schools as well. UIC and Illinois Institute of Technology will offer engineering degrees, and you can always attend U of I for a Masters if you can prove yourself at another program. You have not proven yourself academically yet.

Q: Chances of getting into University of Illinois?
I'm looking into University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign, and I want to know what you think my chances are of getting in. -29 ACT -5.3 GPA (out of 5) -Band member (section leader)--I also made All State for band -I do a ton of community service work -NHS (National Honors Society) Thanks!

A: You're in, especially if you are in-state. If you are out-of-state, you will still get in. 100%. You've got a good ACT score, above 5 GPA, and your community service should be great!

Q: Which is better University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, or University of California Davis?
Which is better University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, or University of California Davis? Preferably for an Electrical Engineering student.

A: Both UI and UC-D are great universities. However, University of Illinois is ranked higher for undergraduates. Illinois is particularly good for engineering. US News ranks its engineering school in the top five. That put it up with schools like Berkeley, Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT -- and ahead of every single Ivy League school

Q: Which university would you prefer - Illinois - urbana or georgia tech ?
Hey, Which university would you prefer for chemical engineering, University of Illinois Urbana or Georgai Tech and why ?

A: Both schools are comparable./ Choose either one.

Q: anyone else having trouble with the application for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign?
I am applying online as a freshman who has already taken college courses to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, but I'm having trouble with the application. The dropdown menu that asks me to "select an application type" is blank, and therefore I can't do the rest of the application! I have Internet Explorer 5.2 for Mac, and tech support at UIUC is not available because of the holidays. Anyone else experience this problem, and how can I fix this?

A: The offices are closed for the holidays. You'll probably want to wait until they come back in session, which will be a few days from now and then apply.

Q: Is anybody thinking about gun control today with the Illinois University shooting on the news?
School shootings in California, two days in a row, and now today we hear that fifteen people have been injured in the college in Illinois and the shooter is dead. Are we becoming so used to these horrific reports that we feel badly, but helpless to do anything about it. THIS is what Congress should be discussing, rather than drugged athletes.

A: I agree. How many more shootings in public places or schools before people realize that we need gun control and we need it now. There have been way too many innocent people killed over the last 10 yeas in mass shootings in schools, malls, and on college campuses. If people want to own guns that's fine, but they need to be responsible for those guns, so here's what I propose: mandatory background checks for anyone wanting to buy a gun, and a seven day waiting period. In addition, anyone wishing ot purchase a firearm must also purchase trigger locks for their guns and if they'd like a tax write off at the end of the year they can buy a gun safe and secure it to the floor or a wall in their home. If a firearm is stolen from someone's home and used to commit a crime because the gun owner didn't have a trigger lock or a gun safe, the gun owner must either pay a fine, face six months of probation or surrender their remaining firearms. Gun control is being RESPONSIBLE for YOUR Guns! And to those of you who believe there'd be fewer casualties or public shootings if more of the general populous carried firearms, did it ever occur to you that there might be MORE deaths? How are the police supposed to tell the "good guy vigilantes" from the "bad guy pyscho shooting up the campus"? How many innocent bystanders would be hit by stray bullets? How many people would be driving along, get cut off and then remember they have a gun and shoot at the "jerk" who just cut them off? It's a terribly slippery downward slope into complete chaos...

Q: Is the University of Illinois online alumni directory up-to-date and/or useful?
I'm an UIUC alumni debating on paying dues to get access to the alumni directory. Has anyone paid alumni dues and used the University of Illinois alumni directory? Did you find it useful for career seaching? Thanks!

A: I'm a UIAA lifetime member, and I've looked through the Directory on occasion. I used it once to cross ref an alumnus who I had worked with at a previous employer to help me get my resume at a different one. Didn't work out. I'm uncomfortable cold-contacting someone via the Directory, mostly because it appears that I'm begging for a job contact. If it works for you, OK. I kind of think it's more useful if you're looking for a former classmate or coworker, but, by the same token, you'd be in a better position to ask for help if you've kept in periodic contact w/ that person. Good luck. Go Illini!
