Q: Which of the best known Western Universities offer distance education in Saudi Arabia?
We have got a lot of Universities that offer distance education, but I doubt they are accredited to a noted University or their countries of origin. I am sure there must be some "big-names" but where and how should I contact them?

A: I'm not sure, but if you go to collegeboard.com, that website can help you find A LOT of information about colleges.

Q: Can someone tell the list of good distance education universities for MBA?

A: If you google "MBA ranking" you will find a list from the Times which is, I think quite representative. I am a Lancaster University Management School student. My school offers a MBA raked 22nd in the world. It's good value for money as it is very intensive course. Be careful with bogus MBA. Some unis ask between 10K and 25K for an MBA which has only 10 hours tuition/a week, no homework, no group work.

Q: Any universities that do both Biology and Primary Education with QTS?
Me and my fiancé want to do different courses but stay near each other. Does anyone know any universities, or universities in the same area that do Biology and Primary Education with QTS? The QTS needs to be for Key Stage 1/2. Thanks

A: Pick a big city, London, Manchester, Birmingham. Then you would not need to be at the same uni but could be near each other. E.g. in Birmingham you have Birmingham Uni, Birmingham City uni, University College Birmingham, Newman college and Aston. Then within 30 mins travelling you have Warwick, Coventry and Wolverhampton.

Q: Why is on line education normally not recognized by prestigious universities?
I wanted to take a Master's degree program offered by University of Phoenix on line and when I asked the department of education in California they said that they wouldn't recognize on line education.

A: You asked the wrong office in California then or someone you talked to there is exceedingly stupid (some people are). UC - Berkeley, UCLA, CSU, and Stanford (among many others) teach online in California. Have a look here: http://www.cvc.edu/ Many state colleges in Calirfornia are teaching online - why would the Cal DoE not recognize their own degrees? Harvard University teaches online. Have a look here: http://www.extension.harvard.edu/2007-08/DistanceEd/courses/ Even Oxford teaches online. About 85% of all institutions of higher education in the United States teach online. Many offer their degrees wholly online (UMass, U Fl., Florida State, UTexas, etc...) Your problem is more likely that the reputation of UoP is not very high. In fact, some would say that of the 4100+ accredited colleges in the US; UoP is near #4100.

Q: "The product that universities sell is qualification not education", agree or disagree?
"The product that universities sell is qualification not education", agree or disagree?

A: Yes I totally agree with this. All my teachers this semester are terrible. I end up doing most of my learning on my own. The only reason I feel like I'm paying to go to school is to get my degree. I think it is a university's goal to sell you an education, but most all of my teachers just tell me what I am supposed to know and then it's up to you to learn it.

Q: What universities offer Latin by distance education?
I'm more interested in a degree programme, but I'm also interested in hearing about universities that offer single courses. I'll consider Classical Studies as well, but I'd rather concentrate on the Latin language. The university can be one in which instruction is in English, French or Spanish. The courses must be through distance or online learning.

A: I can't give you a complete list, but only the programs I know. The only one of all that I'm familiar with that offers Classical Studies (but not Latin) via distance learning is U London: http://www.londonexternal.ac.uk/prospective_students/listing/index.shtml There could be others, but that's the only one I know for certain.

Q: Where can I find statistics on University education in the 3rd world- esp Africa?
I would like to know how many students attend these universities and how much aid funding these universities and students receive to buy books. Also if their publishing industry is subsidized in view to the university market. Anything in this regard would be very helpful I'm looking at South Africa in particular, but anything about the 3rd world would be great. I'm doing research into initiatives aimed towards the 3rd world in terms of aid for university Textbooks/education, and whether these initiatives have a positive impact on students.

A: Site has closed. About a "Cure for HIV virus Discovered by Dr. Jeremiah Abalaka." "Medicrest Hospital was therefore established to confirm the Doctor's finding and produce curative vaccines for H.I.V." Dr. Abalaka "has also invented an H.I.V. PREVENTIVE VACCINE code-named PABALAKS." The hospital is in Gwagwalada, Abuja, Nigeria. A May 2002 Daily Trust article reported on Nigerian Governments efforts to stop use of the vaccine. http://www.abalaka.com/

Q: Which universities offer online distance education couses to become a Registared Dietician?
I would like to pursue a career as a RD while I'm working full time.

A: There are tons of online programs. I personally attended American Intercontinental Univ. and Capella University, and I have taught for various online schools over the last five years. All are accredited and solid programs. Online courses tend to vary in price, so we could say they are more expensive, but that is relative. Of course they are more expensive than a community college, but less expensive than Harvard. The price range varies. You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

Q: Do you think universities should mandate physical education for students?
I would like very objective points of view please.

A: Yes, I would love them to enforce that.

Q: What website can I go to to find the top ten universities for music education and musical theatre?

A: Maybe the US News rankings, though I don't think they've done Music Education or Theatre. Be careful though, if you want to be a teacher, you don't want to go to a school that costs 30K/year, and come out of undergrad with 120,000$ of loan debt, and a job that pays 30K/year. Try to find an excellent program at a State university in your state. That's my suggestion. There are some excellent ones. Indiana University is consistently ranked in the top 5 of music schools. (for Music performance) Ohio State and U. Michigan also rank very well.

Q: What is the difference between college education certification for california state universities and IGETC?
(IGETC) stands for Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum. They both say they will satisfy lower division education requirement for any CSU. I'm having trouble picking my classes for next semester.

A: The easiest way to find out info is to find a student. You can start looking for contact information for California universities here. http://www.collegereviewed.com/California-Colleges-Universities.html The students always seem to know what's up better than outsiders since they get to experience the classes and the lifestyle.

Q: Which universities in China/Hong Kong offer education in English for undergraduate students?
I would like to study International Business in China or in Hong Kong and I was wondering which universities offer the program in English. I know about the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and about the Hong Kong University. Are there any other universities offering the program in English? Thanks in advance.

Q: What are the benefits of a university education?
If the government hype is to be believed then a university education is the passport to a more successful life. Has anybody experienced any real benefits as a direct result of having studied at university?

A: Personally, I have experienced benefits as a direct result of having studied at university, but that's because I now work as a research fellow in a university. However, I strongly believe that the government is doing its best to destroy any standards that we may have had in the education system and insisting that everyone should go to uni has no logical reasoning behind it. It used to be widely accepted that people were talented in different areas and were encouraged to pursue careers in order to compliment their skills. A small proportion of the population went to university to pursue a worthwhile academic degree, often leading to a related career such as a career in academia. Other people undertook apprenticeships in order to acquire a trade and so on. These days it seems not to matter what you study at university so long as you go and study 'something'. As a result, we have a shortage of skilled people in trades such as plumbing and an excess of people leaving university with a whole heap of debt and not much else to show for the past three or four years. The government needs to wake up to the fact that not everybody is suited to university and also needs to acknowledge that people are choosing pointless 'made up' degrees over worthwhile subjects such as the sciences, ,just to go to university. How does a degree in 'pop music' benefit society? At the end of the day, something has to change, including attitudes. Having a degree used to be a prestigious thing, now people look at you strangely if you don't have one! At the other end of the scale, people take a snobbish view that not going to university means that you are somehow not intelligent or not skilled. Is this really what the government hoped to achieve?
