Q: what are the top universities for journalism related courses?
i want to look at broadcast journalism or other journalism oriented courses. what are the top universities for this kind of course?
this is for the uk really, although i am open to suggestion in other countries
A: University of Central Lancashire (Preston) is pretty highly rated, if you want a further look you can find them at
http://www.uclan.ac.uk/
and they have a mini-site for their journalism department
http://www.ukjournalism.org/
Hope this is of some help to you :)
Q: what score in gate put me in top ten universities in India ?
i am a engineering student . and i have 76 as my aggregate up to my fifth semester . now i m trying to join in m.tech. so please tell me how much score is required for joining in m.tech in top universities.
A: to do m.tech, it is also important whether u have any minority certificate like SC/ST, or OBC. believe me, it really helps, because then u have to score only about 70-75percentile. otherwise, u have to score around 90+ percentile, more likely 95+, to get into any IIT or other top universities. also depends upon the branch of ur B.Tech. electronics requires the highest cut-off, whereas agricultural requires the lowest.

Q: What are the Top 10 Universities for media studies?
Can you please give me the world rankings for the top 10 universities worldwide, and the top 10 universities in U.S.A, India, U.K, and Australia as well.
I really need to know.
Thanks.
A: G'day,
The best known world ranking publication is the one published by Shanghai Jiaotong University & THES-QS, although both got their share of criticisms b'cos of heavy emphasis on one particular areas only.
In Australia, there are only 39 universities. All of them are fully accredited and equally recognised. Therefore you do not have to worry abt the quality of the course offered to the int. students. You just need to pick the city where you prefer to live & study. I suggest you check the online database mentioned below.
If you want to know the big uni in Australia, they belong to the Group of 8 (www.go8.edu.au), although the group is only created to unified their promotional effort.
Hope this helps. Good luck on your study.
Q: Why are the top-tier universities generally concentrated in the Northeast and California?
The Ivy League, MIT, Stanford, CalTech, and hordes of elite liberal arts schools. There are very good ones in the Midwest and South, but I don't think it's a lie to say that most of American's best, top-tier universities are concentrated in the Northeast and California. Any reason for this?
A: I agree with everyone else on why the east coast has strong schools: the schools are older. When a new school starts, it has to find professors and students, but those people would usually rather go to a more established school. So the first generation of professors and students at a new school will typically be worse professors and students. And then the next generation of students and professors will prefer to go to the better school, which just perpetuates the newer school being worse. It can take a long time to dig out of such a reputation and a long time for a school with a good reputation to dig itself into a hole.
As far as the west coast schools, it is certainly true that CA throws money at its public schools, so they tend to be good. But Stanford and Caltech are both private. I think the real reason CA has some good schools is the strength of the economy. Let me give you an example. Caltech rose to prominence because California spent money on a fancy telescope in the mountains just outside of LA. They needed some scientists to run the telescope, so they went to the local college (at that point named Throop College) and gave them money to hire some top-notch telescope scientists. Over time, other top-notch scientists decided to join their colleagues at Throop, and before long it became a great science university (and was renamed Caltech). But if the economy in CA had not been strong enough for there to be equipment and facilities that would draw some top talent, then Caltech would have never been more than a local college.
So I think to get a great university, you need to have something that attracts some top talent. Once you have some top talent, more top talent will join up and you have the beginnings of a great reputation. The main things that attract talent are reputation and money. And the east coast and CA are the regions that have had access to these commodities. You might expect the south to have equally strong universities, given the regions age, but I think there was not as much of a social pressure to be well educated in the south as there was 100 or 200 years ago in the north. So culture also plays a role. The central part of the country is simply too new and not dense enough to have significant financial resources for a strong universities.
Q: What top-tier universities offer Journalism as a major?
Hello everyone, I am currently a freshman in high school who is an excellent writer and think that I would like to study journalism in college. I currently have a 3.7210 weighted GPA (unweighted it is about a 3.63) with all honors courses, and have written numerous articles for local newspapers as well as blogs. Check out my other questions for my full resume, but what top-tier universities offer Journalism as a major that I could possibly get into? Thanks.
A: I don't think you're far enough along in your high school career to get a very good idea of where you're likely to be competitive as far as college admissions go. Give it another year. Take the PSAT as a sophomore. Keep those grades up and keep with the extracurriculars.
As far as top tier schools, there's always Columbia. NYU is also stellar. Basically, think of any top-shelf chool and see if they've got a journalism program. But realize that if you do apply to the very top tier you're going to be competing with people at least as well qualified as you. A 3.63 is good, but there are plenty of people with 3.93s. Don't reach beyond your grasp.
Q: What courses,SAT scores, GPA and other tests should I take to get into the top Universities?
I want to know what grades I should aim for to get into a top school. It doesn't have to be Harvard or anything.
I'm going to be a junior next year. And I am signed on for two AP Classes: US History and AP English Comp.
My average is a low 90, but I do have a 95 average in English, a 98 average in Global History, an 97 average in Italian, a 88 average in math(trigonometry) and a 88 average in Chemistry. So far (haven't gotten final scores yet).
also, do universities look at the whole academic average or just the academics? I go to a Performing Arts School and my music classes are averaged into my grades.
any info would help. Thanks
A: You really need to do well in the core classes for all the years you need to take them - Math (4), English (4), Science (3), History (2), etc. Music and all that is great but you need the basics. And since the top universities will have applications from kids who took all AP courses in the core classes, you'll have to compete against them.
It sounds like you're doing fine. Just continue to do well in the hard core classes.
Q: What are some top universities with excellent art programs?
I am at the top of my class, and I do not want to go to an art-only school. I am also interested in psychology, so I was considering doing a double major, unless that is too much work. I live in Florida, so I am looking for a location that is not too cold, and I can't go anywhere west, either. Any suggestions?
A: carnegie mellon university in pittsburgh
Q: What are the entrance IB grades for top universities?
I need a brief guide. Like what is the minumum scores for the subjects if you are pursuing Biotechnology.
Preferably universities like Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge etc.
If anyone has an official list of grades for many of the universities around the world, it would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
A: Even if you get a perfect GPA and Stats then there is no guarantee. Top schools reject those types of applicants all the time. Simply do the best you can and apply to a number of schools - some top tier, some middle tier, and some relatively easy schools to get into.
Thanks
Bill
Q: What are the top Universities in the USA?
like the top 50 or 100
Does anyone know where I could find that information?
OHH and does anyone know anything about Charleston Southern University?
A: these are the official 2008 general rankings, but it depends a little bit on what field youre going to study. some of the schools on this list tie, so they will have the same number. i dont think i saw the school you were asking about on the list, but that doesnt mean its a bad school.

Q: Famous people getting degrees from top universities?
What do you think about this? Many celebrities get a degree from top universities like Yale and Harvard when they didn't even do a thing to earn the degree. They just get it for being famous. It is to give the university more fame, and then the celeb will probably donate money to them.
I think it is a slap in the face to the college students who work their butts off to actually earn their degrees. All the endless hours of studying and years of preparing to earn their much deserved degree at a top university. Then a celebrity just gets one because they are famous.
I think it is really wrong and should not be allowed anymore. To get a degree you should have to earn it just the same way all the other college students do.
A: These schools emphasize academic achievement, potential for extraordinary achievement, extracurricular activities, great recommendations, great essays and other admission factors. When you are a girl like Chelsea Clinton and one of your recommendations comes from like Jimmy Carter (just an example), you write a great essay because you attended one of the best prep schools in the country and your extracurricular activities includes travel to 150 countries and meeting with world leaders along with your mother, it's hard not to get in. Plus she got well over 1500 on her SATs. I don't think it's unfair since these people didn't choose to be famous. People like Chelsea Clinton were born into fame and they were able to achieve a lot because of their fame. So it's okay.
Because I am human, I have issues with celebrities like the Olsen twins who got into NYU. Their SATs were guarded jealously so no one really knows how good they were as students but my guess is that they were not spectacular (that's probably very judgemental on my part but I think I speak the truth). However, being famous as actors is in itself an accomplishment so I have to painfully admit that if one has enjoyed such high levels of success as they have, maybe one does deserve to get into good schools. These schools look for extraordinary people, unfortunately, the Oslen twins are more extraordinary than a kid with 1600 on the SATs and a 4.0 high school GPA. What the twins probably lack in brains, they make up for in fame.
I would have issues if Paris Hilton were to go to Harvard. That would bother me. She has no talents what so ever. She is only famous for being famous if they even makes any sense.
When a guy like young George Bush gets into Yale with an SAT score of just over 1200, you have to excuse Yale on that one because did become president. I mean, he probably only became president because of his father but these schools look for people with the potential to achieve fantastic goals. If you only have potential because of the family you were born into, well so be it. The point is, Yale judged correctly when they took George Bush despite his average SAT scores.
Is it unfair, probably but it's just the way society is.
Q: What are the top universities for studying psychology in Australia?
Just wondering which universities in Australia are the best/more suited to my psychology undergrad studies in Australia.
A: Sydney Uni is pretty big and has facilities to stay there if you also need accomodation. Macquarie Uni in Sydney is small but a good Uni. I don't know about the other states.
Q: What are the top universities in Great Britain other than Oxford and Cambridge?
I know this is a very subjective question but I am just curious. I often hear about Cambridge and Oxford but not other universities.
A: According to the Times Good University Guide 2007, the next best are Imperial College, the London School of Economics, and University College London.
See more at the below link.
Q: How does it make you feel that the majority of student in the top universities are children of immigrants?
Most students at Berkeley and other universities such as Harvard and Princeton are made up of the children of foreign born parents. I study at the University of California at Berkeley. 45 percent of the school is first generation asian, 13 percent Hispanic most of which are children of illegal parents, 5 percent black, and the rest are Caucasian of european decent. 30 years ago it was about 90 percent "white". What does this show for the future of higher education and the role of immigration?
A: Your statistics are VERY faulty. While the designated ethnic breakdown at Berkeley seems right (45% Asian/Pacific Island - that is NOT "first (or even second) generation" Asian. That is the total cited ethnic background of the student body. Comparable statistics for some other "top universities" are:
Harvard - 13% Asian and 77% White
Yale - 11% Asian and 51% White
Princeton - 11% Asian and 52% White
As at Berkeley, these are the self-reported ethnic background of the students and has absolutely nothing to do with any "immigrant" status.
As the old witticism says: "Figures don't lie but liars often figure." And as Mark Twain observed: "There are three kinds of lies - lies, damned lies, and statistics."
Be more careful before you try to inflame people with your ugly superstitions.
