Q: What is it like to life on campus at university?
I am contemplating living away from home when uni starts next year. I was wondering what people's opinion of living on campus is like, economically and socially. I'm applying for Monash Berwick and I could be looking at $6600 for 40 weeks, does that seem alright? Am I better off renting out somewhere else, independent of the university? I may look at a new job too, obviously since i'd be moving but something that pays more and more hours. I hope this makes sense, its late :P

A: The first question I'd ask you is whether or not it's your freshman year. College is not like high school. There are far more distractions, and fewer impediments to blowing things off. Try to balance what you want to do (it seems obvious you don't want to live at home) with what will make the most sense, short term and long term. You've mentioned the cost of living off campus and the need to take on a second job with more pay and more hours. Many college towns eagerly accept students for jobs because they have a virtually unlimited supply of them, the downside is that large supply guarantees mediocre pay. Check out the job market BEFORE you get there, these are tough times, and people with hefty resumes are looking for work. If you land a good job, how many hours will you have to work? Balancing a lot of hours at work, with a lot of hours at school (library, homework etc..) is not easy. Finally, no matter what you do, allow yourself time to enjoy the college experience. It's truly the best time of your life!

I am going to start my postgraduate studies in Sheffield this year. I know that the main campus is in the centre but how to get to the other one without paying a taxi fare? I am going to study psychology part-time and I may be finishing my class late at night. Any chance for a frequent bus to the centre?

A: They are every 5 minutes from the town cente, most students live in the area around Collegiate so it's a popular route. Most of the 80's go to Collegiate crescent. The 85 and 86 are £1.10 The 82,81,80 are 70p for students £1.10 standard The 88 and 83 are 50p for students £1 standard You can get the 80 outside the city campus and the others in the town centre. At the top of the main shopping street next to orchard square shopping area and the old Zavvi. Collegiate crescent is a big campus for 3 major departments and the links in transport are very good and run until 12 at night.

Q: Do freshmen have to live on campus at the university of virginia?
Are you required to live on campus as a freshman at the University of Virginia's School of Nursing or is it possible to commute?

A: I believe you have to live on campus for at least your first semester. But if you have special circumstances or you live near the school, they may be willing to negotiate. Talk to the head of the housing department and see what you can find out. UVA seems to have tons of options when it comes to housing, as well as nice dorms, so don't be afraid to ask around.

Q: What is the best way to help contain the spread of measles at a university campus?
Without immunisation, how best should the students and administration behave in order to contain the spread of a virus such as measles?

A: TOKYO, April 17 -- Japan's southern Kanto region, including Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture, has been hit by a measles outbreak, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases said Tuesday, warning of a bigger outbreak toward summer. Yoshinori Yasui, a senior researcher at the institute, urged people with measles symptoms such as a rash and fever ''not to go to drop-ins if the measles breaks out in schools and communities.'' The measles virus is virulent and spreads through coughing and sneezing. After an incubation period of around 10 days, the virus causes a high fever and cold-like symptoms followed by a red rash covering the entire body, the institution said. Only the symptoms can be treated and it is important that children be vaccinated twice against the disease -- at the age of 1 and before entering elementary school, it said. The number of measles patients reached 26 in the week through April 1, the highest for any week since last September, according to a survey covering 3,000 pediatric hospitals across Japan. Of the 26, 11 were from Saitama Prefecture and nine from Tokyo, the institute said. The number of measles patients aged 15 or higher also marked a week-to-week increase to 11 in the reporting week, mostly from Tokyo. An outbreak of measles forced a public high school in Tokyo's Nerima Ward to postpone an enrollment ceremony earlier this month, and a total of 123 public-school students were suspended from attending school in Tokyo between January and March due to the disease, according to the local authorities. Though the death rate from the disease is low, several people still die of it in Japan annually, the institution said. Anyway, the best answer would be to stay away from where cases were confirmed but at the same time one should not be too concerned. If rash and fever appears, isolation is necessary. Post-exposure vaccination is also an option. As you know, there is no therapy for measles.

Q: How can I get Azureus or any P2P program to connect to peers on my University Campus?
I am on Mac OS X, and I believe there is a campus firewall. I have tried setting up a proxy by following instructions on the web, but none have been step-by-step enough for a beginner as myself. I have tried and will happily try again other programs (Limewire, Acquisition), but I'd love some detailed description as to how to get a proxy set up and actually functioning. I can't live without downloading!

Q: Is the scarborough campus of University of Toronto as prestigous as the other campuses of the university?
or are all 3 of the campuses regarded the same way? is scarborough easier or just the same as st. george or UTM?

A: Some people believe that any satellite campus, including UTSC won't be as prestigious as the main St. George campus. However, having taught at the Scarborough campus, it is my experience that the students often get the best of both worlds there. They enjoy the small university experience, get to know their professors well and have smaller class sizes, but they also get to take advantage of the amazing resources of the University of Toronto network, including online resources and downtown lectures and libraries. Besides, it is my experience that in general, a student should study where they think they will be able to focus and do the best work, not where the most prestigious name is. Good luck!

Q: Can anyone tell me about living on campus at Chicago State University?
I'm transfering to Chicago State University in Chicago, IL on 95th and King Drive, and I just wanted to know how it is living in their dorm rooms and attending classes. I know they have one of the best accounting programs in the midwest, and I used to live down the street from the campus. Any insight would be appreciated.

A: CSU is considered one of the worst schools in Chicago. UIC has a very good accounting program. CSU is not in the safest of areas. It is in Bronzeville.
