Q: Trade schools?
What are your opinions on trade schools. Do they really work? if so which one is the best. I going to sign up today for x ray tech the class is 8 months. the cost is 15,000 do you think I will get a job when I finish please help.
A: Since the program you are looking into is only 8 months in duration, I am pretty sure it is not an accredited radiologic technology program (fully licensed x-ray tech). This means you will be a limited tech upon graduation. A limited tech is limited to doing only chest x-rays or only extremity (arm, wrist, leg, ankle etc) x-rays. I would say you shouldn't waste your time or energy on this one. Most hospital imaging departments and free-standing imaging centers will not hire a limited tech. There are many examinations you would be unable to do, so you are not very valuable to employers. Most limited techs work in orthopedic offices which have their own x-ray equipment.
There are many schools in many states where you can get trained to be a radiologic technologist (the proper term for a x-ray tech). You can attend a hospital based program (and earn a certificate), a 2 year college program (AS degree), and even a 4 year college program (BS degree). The hospital based programs are the least expensive, and honestly, I think the education received there is superior. Once you graduate and take your registry exam, no future employer is going to care what type of educational program you went through. All they care about is your license. You can find an accredited RT program at this site. Just search "radiography" and your state...links are provided which will give you additional information on each program (cost, duration of program, contact person):
http://www.jrcert.org/cert/Search.jsp
RTs do more than just x-rays of bones. We do fluoroscopy studies (involving the intestinal tract and barium), arthrograms (assisting the radiologist with injecting contrast or dye into joints for evaluation) and myelograms (assisting the radiologist with injecting contrast into the spinal canal). If you work in a hospital setting, you will do portable exams in ICU, CCU, the ER and even surgery. Some RTs take x-rays in the morgue. A limited tech is not permitted to do any of the above imaging studies.
Most RTs will also become proficient and licensed in other modalities, such as mammography, CT and/or MRI. This training does not require any additional formal training, and is usually learned on the job. The more licenses you have, the more money you can make, as you will be in higher demand. With additional schooling, you can also do ultrasound. A limited tech does not have the ability to do these other modalities.
Well, I work in a free standing imaging center. My office is only open M-F, 8:00-5:00. No weekends, nights or call work. In a hospital, most imaging departments are staffed 24 hours a day. You could be scheduled to work nights, PM shifts, weekends, holidays....anytime really!
I highly recommend you do an observation in both a hospital imaging department and a free standing imaging facility. Until you see what RTs do, you won't know if it is the job for you! It would also give you a wonderful opportunity to talk to RTs in your area. Best wishes.....
Oh, another good resource....check out the student area of the ASRT website:

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists just did a large salary survey, in 2007. The salary varies, depending on your experience, specialties and geographical area. Remember, that the salary of a limited tech will be less than that of a radiographer. To view, the survey, and see the average salary in your state, you can go to this link:

Q: Where can I find scholarships or grants for trade schools?
I am going to be to going to a grooming school in the summer. Grooming schools are pretty expensive ($2,000-6,000). The school I am going to go to costs $5,000 for the program I'm going to take and I have to pay it before I can start. Where can I find scholarships for a grooming or trade school?
A: You can do this at the public library. They have registered publications, if you ask the librarian for help, which are kept updated with new grant/scholarships. They all want different requirements and financial need is often NOT the criterion for your selection. You must apply to each according to specificly listed directions found in the reference book. Always verify it is still available before beginning the application process.
Q: Whats your opinion on trade schools?
What do you feel about trade schools for example ITT tech, etc and their degree programs after all a BA degree is a BA no matter what school its from right? Do you think traditional education is better or equal to now modern trade school degrees? Would you have the same opportunity as to which school you attended?
A: I would suggest to just find a company you're interested in and offer to work for free and shadow as many positions as you can. Learn as much as you can and as the boss sees you're learning the trade, they will hire you, thus saving you thousands.
Q: Do we need to focus on developing Trade Schools in Trinidad and Tobago?
I was wondering. With all the construction going on in TnT now shouldn't more of our young people and tradesmen be able to find work?
And why do we have to import contractors, laborours and tradesmen to build these fancy buildings in TnT as we see happening now? Tell me.
A: We need to develop Trade schools.
the thing is the education and young people wanna go UWI and USC and get degrees in business, IT, CIS, so government concentrating on tht cuz they see tht as a way forward esp. with this 1st world country status in the back of their minds. so the tradesmen finding mediocre training and learning facilities.
The government feel the need to hire a foreign based contracting and constructing company because, they dont recognise their own as being skilled enuff to handle the job they wanna do (or the ppl go tief all de material when it reach...jk). But they don't see that the solution to that is simple. developing trade schools to a high standard, will allow for better skilled companies of our own, who they can trust to consrtuct these fancy buildings. Vicious circle
Q: Do you think trade schools are worth going to?
I was thinking of going to American Career college, are these schools worth the money. They'll charge me 15thousand, I was thinking that career path for me to get me started.
A: it depends on what program you are planning to attend. look in the want ads to see which jobs pay the best and their requirements and do those courses. do not not not do any medical paperwork jobs like transcriptionist or appointment setter...they make barely more than minimum wage, same for paralegal. if there is something on project management or project controls or some computer certifications, do those as they generally pay the best...but check job ads to see what is in high demand. career colleges also often provide job placement opportunities. good luck
PS 15k for a certification or degree for a high paying career versus a 60k+ job with no guarantee of a job is much riskier.
Q: Anybody know any good trade schools for Multimedia in southern Florida?
I'm looking for somewhere by Fort Lauderdale or Miami but honestly if u no any located somewhere else in florida, i'd like to hear where. Are there any good ones in orlando?how bout toward the gulf side?
A: There is Full Sail Universty in Orlando.
Q: Could u qualify for pell grants for vocational or trade schools or only college?
I was thinking about going to barber school or culinary school but could i qualify for a pell grant if i did?
A: If the trade or vocational school you attend is properly accredited by an accreditting institution you can get a Pell Grant.
Q: In my neighborhood there are only trade high schools, i need help?
In my neighborhood there are 2 high schools and a private school. Both of the public high schools are all trade. I am not allowed to go to the private school. If you would please look at the curriculum, will you give me some advice on what to take and such? http://sturgeon.sjsd.net/PDF/Scc%20Courses.pdf
I decided maybe english, mathematics, humanities, and science. Then maybe art, drama, and hairstyling for some more things to look at on my resume. I really want to study journalism at carleton. So please take a look at the courses and give me some suggestions.
A: Well I think your academic studies seem good, although if you want to be a journalist then you might want something other that hairstyling, as i cant see how that would help. Instead I suggest a history class as that is always vital to be able to compare and relate to current issues. Also join a debate club and try finding things that deal with creative writing and politics.
Q: Are there any trade schools you can get into without a high school diploma?
I can't afford to get a GED, so unless i can find a free test I need to figure out how to go to tech school with no diploma...
I can't afford to get a GED, so unless i can find a free test I need to figure out how to go to tech school with no diploma...
ETA: I live in Arizona
A: See if your state offers a fee waiver for the test./ You will need a diploma for most schools. How will you pay for the tech school? There fees are much more than the cost of a GED test.
Q: Are Trade schools a good way to get into the Electrical Trade??
The school is approved by the State of California.
A: It is a good start... that and you will learn what you need to keep from killing yourself. That said, you need to be sure the program will lead to an apprenticeship. You will need the apprenticeship to really get into the trade. A good first stop would be the local union hall. IBEW in your local phone book. They will have all the specifics for your area.
Q: What Colleges of Trade Schools are you attending?
Can't wait for the parties huh!
A: I've attended the University of Nevada Reno, and am currently attending Truckee Meadows Community College. I'm not much of a partier, but the ones my friends and I had were good enough for me.
Q: What are some examples of colleges, universities,or trade schools that train people how to become a dentist?
A: You must go to an accredited college or university to become a dentist. You can not become a dentist in a trade school.
After a four year degree if you have the grades you can go on to dental school for a doctorate.
