Q: What on Earth should a young public school teacher wear?
I'm a brand new 23-year-old high school English teacher, and I have no idea what to wear at my new job.
I want to look professional and polished without being overdressed, and absolutely NOT sexy in any way. I'm not unattractive, but school is not the place to flaunt anything.
Older teachers get away with dressing pretty sloppy, but I'm afraid of blending in with students if I dress down too much.
What on Earth am I supposed to wear?
I should have mentioned that nobody at this school wears suits. Not even administrators!
A: where a nice cropped blazer and pleated pants, cool shoes( just to show your creativity) never where jeans or big moomoo dress
even a cute cropped sweater , (not to short) with big chunky buttons (camisole underneath) and a nice skirt with tall boots
JJill, Anthropology, Banana republic (kinda of preppy) possibilities are endless
Q: What is the average yearly salary for a high school teacher?
I am planning on going to school to become a teacher, but was wondering the above. Also am wondering if that salary gets divided by 52 weeks or by the weeks the school year is, approximately 42. If so, then for those few weeks does one make a little more a week to make up for the summer that one doesnt' work. Thanks.
A: I saw on either a MSNBC or CNN news program yesterday that the yearly average for teachers (I'm sure that includes elementary teachers also) is $46,000.
Let me just say hopefully you're not from Kansas (like me) where the average is in the low $30,000's. I don't know how we as a nation expect to have excellent education when we don't want to pay teachers what they are worth. I've tossed around the idea of teaching but I'm just not sure I can afford to.
Also, I think in most districts you have the option of choosing how you divide your salary. You can either be paid for 9 months (meaning you won't get any pay checks on summer break) or you can take a little less per paycheck to make it even out and be paid over the summer. Of course there is always the option of teaching summer school for extra money. I think a lot of teachers take up that option.
Q: What route should I take to becoming a School Teacher ?
Note: please only answer if its relevant to teaching in England.
I have decided I would like to train to become a primary school teacher.
I have not been to University. I have GCSE's and a BND. I would like to know the different routes that I can take.
A: The traditonal route is to apply via the General Teacher Training Registry. you can apply online, and the fee is £15. It pretty much the same as UCAS-you pick your top 6 places you would like to study, in order of preference, and work down the list depending whether you get accepted or rejected.
You have quite a lenghty application to fill out and you need an outstanding personal statement explaining why you want to do the course.
The course you take is a PGCE-post graduate certificate in education. This is a year full time, and 2 years part time, of which you are eligible for a student loan, and a bursary paid for by the government. As it implies, you ideally need a degree in a specific subject to apply (so you can specialise) however, if you have lengthy experience in a certain industry sector, you may be able to apply on those grounds.
Its also a good idea to get some real life experience of working with children, this will help loads on your application.
Primary applications fill up very early so you need to get your application in by latest November for Sept 2010 start. It is normally too late to apply for the 2009 intake, however the GTTR website will tell you if any institutes have any places left.
Good luck!

I am a teacher in a high school, working for 15 years, not married, no children. I want to know how much salary does a teacher like me get in your country ( in Euro). I get about 1400 Euro.
A: It varies from state and localities. pick a location in the US and go to salary.com for teacher and amount experience and it will give you amount in $.
Q: How many years do you have to go to school to become an elementary school teacher?
I am getting ready to start at a community college to become an elementary school teacher. How many years of school do I need to actually start teaching? I will only be going to school part time for now, maybe 1 or 2 classes a week. Any advice would be great! Thanks!
A: First of all, you DO NOT need a Masters to become permanently certified. You get your temporary certificate, and then you will be given your permanent teaching certificate after a certain length of time- it varies by state. In our state, its after 3 years. Second, as far as time needed to complete your college courses, I took 3 classes per week and 2 in the summer. I was able to complete everything including my internship within 5 years with a B.A. If you can, I would bump up your course load to 3 classes per week next semester. Don't take any semesters off either! Just keep going and it will go by faster than you can imagine! Once you have completed everything, you will need to take your state teaching exam and also your subject area exam. It is very helpful if you have experience in any sort of volunteer work in the education field, summer camp employment, etc... It all will look good on your resume. Good luck.

Q: How can you become a school teacher in Ireland?

Hello I would like to become a school teacher in Republic of Ireland.
The fact is I'm french and I really want to work in Republic of Ireland. My english is fluent and I'll have a degree in history. I don't know yet if I prefer to be a teacher in primary school or in secondary school. Thank you for your help. ;)
Thank you very much for these answers! But it seemsreally hard for me to become a teacher (in primary or secondary school)! I thought it was easier! But could you tell memore about "irish primary school degree" ? thank you. :)
A: Hi, to teach in a primary school in Ireland you need an Irish primary school degree which is 3 years in duration and has to be taken in situ in Ireland, you would need a grade C+ in honours Irish at Leaving certificate level, places are allocated on a points system eg, for veterinary medicine 600 points would be required (2007) the points change from year to year depending on demand for particular courses. The points gained depend on your leaving certificate results - the higher the grade - the higher your points will be.
Little comfort is correct with regard to post primary teaching except that you need a degree in 2 subjects eg: History and English, forget about 3rd level education - you would need a masters and a ph.d before even being considered.
Edit: This link will bring you to the department of education (Ireland) site and all the details you require with regard to teaching in Ireland can be found here

Q: How too become an elementary school teacher in Houston, Tx?
I want too become an elementary school teacher in Texas and I really don't know how.I want too teach grade 1 too grade 4. Can someone help me, please?
A: Have you finished your degree and are asking how to get a job? First, to teach elementary, you generally have a Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and have passed your certification tests. If you have done that, email principals and get your resume in front of them. Also, become a substitute in the area schools to get experience as well as making yourself known.
Q: How much does a high school teacher earn per year?
I'm taking classes to become a life science teacher for high school students. What's the typical salary that I can expect to make a year and a half from now when I complete my coursework and earn my teaching certificate?
A: A teacher's salary in Indiana depends on how many years of experience you have and how much extra education. A new teacher with no years of experience gets the lowest salary on the pay scale. Each year, the teacher gains one more year of experience and moves up the scale on more year. It really is not easy to tell you how much a starting salary would be because it varies so much from district to district, depending a lot on the tax base of the county the district is in.
My school system is a poor one, but a beginning teacher with 0 years of previous experience and only a BS or BA degree earns $28,954. We are a rural community so living expenses are much lower than large metropolitan areas so that would influence the pay scale as well. Our scale tops out at 19 years of previous experience and a BS + 40 or a MS + 10 with a salary of $50,539.
If you know your state's Department of Education (DOE) website, you can go there and find or request the pay information from a specific corporation. It is public record so it is available. In the community I live in (different from the community I teach in), they publish all the teacher's salaries in the local newspaper (well, not just teachers, but all staff).
Q: What high school courses do you need to become a elementary school teacher ?
I want to become a elementary school teacher but i don't know the courses i need to take.,. Help !!!
A: English and maths are most important, do English Lit if you can, and top maths. Any S+E (history geography etc) and Sciences will do. A language other than English is helpful because employers will take more notice of your application with a language on it. If you're not up to senior school and you still do hands on electives, something like childhood studies is good. Put some effort into religion if you want to teach at a Christian school, or any other religion. You don't need physical education or music, coz lots of schools have specialist teachers for that, although it could be beneficial.
Also should do extracurricular activities, especially service-based, which looks good to employers, as well as a friendly and caring attitude, confidence (public speaking), understanding, and you've got to be able to relate to kids, and also impart your knowledge, not just have good results at school.
Q: Can a permanent resident in the US be a public school teacher?
My husband (from Spain) has just received his greencard. He is planning to go back to school for a new degree. He would like to be a public school teacher. Would it be possible for him to get a government job such as teaching if he is only a permanent resident and not yet a citizen?
A: Yes. I have taught with someone who is not a citizen but he has teaching credential, Masters, etc and has been teaching for years.
Q: How can i track down an old school teacher?
I'm trying to track down an old school teacher of mine, who encouraged me a lot to write.
He no longer works at the school he used to, does anyone have any suggestions on how i can find him again?
A: The school won't give you his contact details but you can write to them & ask them to pass your contact details - write a separate letter & put it in an envelope with his name on the front & the correct postage.
Q: How does one go about becoming a certified secondary school teacher?
Im interested in becoming a high school Math teacher. What steps should I be taking. WillI need a "teaching certificate", what courses should I be taking besides the general education+math major courses, that sort of thing.
A: I can only speak in regards to my location:
You will need to take your general courses. Once you have so many credits you can apply to a teacher education program. If your grades are good enough and you pass the Praxis I you will be accepted into the program. You would then major in Secondary education and major in math. Once your classes are complete, you have all your in classroom work done, and have done your student teaching you can apply for your license. It will consist of background checks, fingerprints, and application forms. If all is good you would have your license.
All states are different. you will need to look into the requirements of the school you wish to attend.
