Q: What happens if you dont go to summer school?
Im a freshman in high school and i got an F in math so i have to go to summer school [i think] and i was wondering what would happen if i didnt go to summer school. i live in Utah btw if that changed anything. okay, so if i dont go to summer school then i cant go to college?

A: haha same exact thing happened to me i got an F in math as a freshman ... i hate math and always will and i also didnt go to summer school the thing that ended up happening was now that i am in my junior year and am looking at my credits to graduate i dont have algebra so i wont get my diploma so eventually you will need the class credits to graduate high school is all about freakin credits and it sucks !!!

Q: How do I cope with summer school for three weeks?
Any advice on how to not dread it? How to treat it? My teachers and classmates? When I think about taking summer school next week, my heart sinks.

A: make sure to talk to people, it will make summer school more of something to look forward too. and talk to the teacher beforehand, so you can start a good relationship and she'll prob. like you from the start so you wont have to worry about her totally failing you (unless of course you barely tried). and just do well from the start, because when you do, you end up liking the class more because you actually understand the stuff. plus 3 weeks is nothing. it will go by so fast, trust me. it wont be so bad :)

Q: Can my daughter still complete summer school after unexpected surgery?
My daughter is 17 and will be a senior next year. She is attending summer school for 2 classes that she needs in order to graduate. She might have to have some unexpected surgery and I wanted to know if she can still complete her classes. (One of which is gym and the other is earth science). Can the give her an alternate assessment based on the situation? She wont be able to participate in gym for at the very least a week. She only has two more weeks to go! I really want to see her complete these classes.

A: I think that is a issue you have to discuss with the school that is in charge. Let them know of your circumstances... they should be able to give her an extensions for assessments and exams -- if not, special consideration (i.e. she can not fail, the lowest mark she can get is a pass). Im sure the school in charge will be understanding if you have a letter from the hospital detailing the operation and of its seriousness.

Q: Does the grade you receive in summer school replace the whole coarse grade?
So, i passed 2 classes with a D this year but i want to get a better grade for the class. I need to raise my Gpa. So does summer school replace that grade?

A: yes i think it shows that you got a D, but then it shows that you got a better grade in summer school. i wish i had gone to summer school

Q: How bad do your grades have to be to get summer school?
If you get 1 F on your quarter grades in 8th grade, will you have to take summer school? If you get 1 D on your semester grade in 8th grade, will you have to take summer school?

A: If you get an F for the semester you will have o take summer school but only if it is a required class like science and math or english but not computers or PE

Q: What happens if I dont go to summer school?
I dont want to go to summer school so is there anyway to get out of it? (Maybe call in and say theres been an emergency and maybe they'll give me the work to do on the plane?) Or can I just not show up because its only for algebra.

A: If you play, you must pay. If you choose not to go, you will have to repeat the grade. If you are wise, you could plan your schedule so that you can complete the class and still have time on your hands. By the way, as a parent, I can honestly say that you gave yourself away here on yahoo. You didn't do your schoolwork all year and now you're trying to get out of doing it by coming up with excuses. Learn a word called INTEGRITY.

Q: Need help on whether or not to take Summer School, to get ahead not cause im domb?
I am in a very competitive high school in cupertino. 2,3 get into like Stanford, Harvard, and many into the UC system. I am a freshman and want to take US history over the summer to lower my load. I play on the Varsity tennis team, have more than a 100 community hours, and a 4.0, and play guitar. My counseler has told me it lowers your vchance of getting into a top school(UCB, Stanford), but i have gotten mixed answers. Also with the extra time im not going to be playing video games or foolin around, but triying to do many extracurricular activities. Please tell me if you know if Summer school does not look well on the application.

A: like the others said taking summer school doesnt look bad on college applications..it shows initiative to utilize your time productively..i suggest if you are going to take summer school maybe take it at a community college so the course can be counted as "college level" = advanced placement course in the academic year...just make sure its okay with your school to take that class at a community college so it doesnt mess with graduation credits

Q: What happens if you don't go to summer school even though you are suppose to?
Like if I fail a class and the school says I have to go to summer school and I don't go in the summer. What happens and is this against the law or just the school?

A: It's not against the law (at least not anywhere that I know of), but if you fail a class and don't go to summer school, you might not get to move up to the next grade in the fall and you probably won't graduate on time.

Q: Is it true that school districts save money during summer vacation?
I believe that schools save money during summer vacation because in most schools (the schools that don't offer summer school) the lights are turned off and the air conditioner is not running as much and the cafeteria is not operating, etc. Do school districts schedule summer break according to costs? Do school districts close school in the summer for the sake of controlling costs to run air conditioning?

A: They do save money most likely. But I don't think they give us a 3 month summer vacation just for the sake of a budget. It's to get ready for a new year and have a break for both the teachers and students. So live it up! Last thing on your mind should be anything school related during the summer months :)

Q: How are summer school and a regular term different? In terms of pressure and expectations?
i never went to summer school i have no idea, and i need this tonight!

A: Traditionally, summer schools are usually more relaxed, as the class sizes are smaller than a normal classroom. The expectations are the same, though. If you are going to summer school it means 1 of 2 things..... 1. That you have had a difficult time with a class, or missed too many of a class due to illness. or 2. You have a discipline issue that caused you to be suspended or expelled for most of the school year.

Q: Is it okay to go to summer school just because you want too?
I am a freshmen and all my classes are in the Honors level. I usually make straight A's but I still might want to go to summer school. I think it could even better prepare me for my sophmore year since I am planning on taking my first AP class. Will Ivy League (or highly selective) colleges not like the idea that I took summer school. What do you think?

A: You can, and no school would look down on it. However, you might do even better, since you are already getting A's in Honors-level classes, and the regular classes at your school might just bore you. Whether or not your family can afford it (because they do offer financial aid), look into enrichment programs like CTY (the Center for Talented Youth), which offer programs for gifted pre-college students, usually at college campuses. You would be with other bright students and might be better-challenged, and those things look very good to selective colleges.

Q: Should I worry about the economic crisis in the USA if I'm planning to attend Harvard Summer School?
I'm planning to attend Harvard Summer School 2009. I'm from the Philippines and the dollar costs like 50 pesos here. Im worried that this economic crisis that the USA is experiencing might have effects on my finances. I'm already burdened with the 10 000 tuition fee of the school I hope this won't pose something worse.

A: Well, it is not clear how long this financial crisis will last. Honestly, you should plan for the worst. Start saving more money now by being frugal, so that you have a cushion in case you need it.

Q: If you fail a semester in school and you do not attend summer school do you fail the grade?
If you fail a semester in school and they reccomend summer school and you do not attend summer school do you fail the grade? I got a letter in the mail from the school saying i failed English-11 second semester. and they reccomended summer school, but it doesnt say whether or not i'd fail the 11th grade.

A: I'm in your shoes. From what i hear you have to take English again in summer school. I'm failing Spanish 1 this year/ English / Environment but i took science 3 times before i was an Junior . So i need to take English and i could(hopefully take) Spanish 1 and 2 next year since i finished all math this year. So basically from what i hear as long as you didn't failed 3 major subjects like Math-English-Reading than you'll pass unless your an senior and failed more than two. But i think you'll have to take summer school

Q: How do I get a work permit (in PA) during the summer, when school is out?
The only place I know of to get a work permit is at my highschool. But since it is summer, school is not in session. Is there anywhere else I can get one? Btw, I'm 17. I don't know you that matters.

A: The district and administrative offices shoudl still remain open during the summer. The summer is also when many principals hire new teachers. So it's worth a call to check to see if someone at your high school is availalble or at the administrative level. Check the school's web site too to see if summer hours are posted. Good luck getting your work permit!
