A: High School ends with the 12th grade (Colloquially known as "matric" from the Matriculation Examinations taken at the end of the year.) Most matriculants are 17/18 years old. Some start university the following year while others take 1 or 2 "gap years". If you live in a major UK city you can hardly avoid meeting young South Africans working there during their gap years.

I will be a senior in high school next year i am not terribly concerned about college more about life experience and i would prefer answers from people who have done it... i am just looking to speak spanish and experience things i have never seen before and i love hiking and there is a lot of it there... its move to the city for senior year or go to any south or central american country and i need to decide soon

A: I would suggest enrolling in an american school that has a good study abroad program and star that way, its safer and all you need is already established. Then you can decide if you'd want to make the move entirely to one particular country. The universities that offer good study abroad programs will usually have more than one latin american to go study in. good luck

Tell me your experience with them and prices etc...I need help finding one NOT being told to learn manual thank you. I have my personal reasons for choosing to learn automatic thank you.

A: I am a driving instructor on manual only but if you have the opportunity to drive automatic out of choice then take a tip from me and do it, you can't beat driving an automatic, as far as driving schools go make sure you pick an independent driving school and not a franchise such as AA or BSM or any other large school otherwise you will pay an extortionate amount of money compared with us independents.

We are new immigrants to SA, and we have a 6 years child. We noticed that there is a huge difference between the fees of the private school and the public school. In term of quality of teaching is there any different between them? Thanks

A: im 16 and have just come from a public school to a private school. you really get what you pay for. i was at the best public school in the state (marryatville high) and am now at a private girls school. theres a lot more kids at the public schools and they come from everywhere, everyone is really different, whereas at a private school, it tends to be A LOT more conservative and the class sizes are much smaller, coz theres a lot less students. at public schools, the teachers dont seem to really care about the students, sometimes they dont care about what they're teaching. teachers at my private school are really caring and they know every kid's name. private schools have much better teachers. catholic schools are a good in between, coz their fees arent as much as a private school, but they still offer high quality education. good luck!

I know graduation is a big thing, but I wanna know if you did something you'll never forget or if something happened that you won't forget. My father was the principal at our High School and me and my friends were always in trouble. We played lots of pranks on teachers and students. I am South African. Besides the tradgedy of the situation I am interested to know what, if any impact it has on potential tourists. P.S. South Africa has been a democracy for 14 years and is racially a very progressive country, far more so than US or UK. Sam J - There's corruption in every country. A: It would if South Africa was the only country in the World that had child abuse, but you can't name one that doesn't.

Q: Can I get into MIT or similar university coming from a small school in South Dakota.?
I have a 3.94 GPA, am in Honor Band/Choir, am in Tennis, Student Volunteer and Helper program, tutor, compete and place in local and regional math and science competitions, even build boats and robots from junk and scrap, but my school only has 5 AP classes and I have very little chances to set myself apart from other applicants. I do take math a science classes at a local college, does that help?

A: M.I.T. and the other top schools are looking for students who are bright and hard-working, who take advantage of all the opportunities that are available to them, who demonstrate leadership qualities, who have great grades and test scores, and who can express themselves well both in writing and speech. If you bring obvious talent in music, science, math, sports, writing ability, or some other area, that helps, too. Coming from South Dakota is also a benefit, because they don't get many applicants from that part of the country. So if you've taken the 5 AP courses that your school offers and your test scores are good, too, then, yes, you've got a shot at getting in. But choose your safety schools carefully because it's hard for anyone to get into M.I.T., so the odds are you'll be going elsewhere.
