Q: In schools Christmas programs on Christ's birth, should they do the historically accurate or mythical version?
Since schools are suppose to teach history based on accuracy. Should school programs on Christmas show the Star led the astrologers, who weren't invited, first to King Herod, who wanted to kill Christ, than to find a boy living in a house, not a babe in a manger? Or should historical accuracy be left up to what the teachers think the children need to know, based on their own opinions of society?

A: Everything should be historical and factual. Much of the Christmas story is tradition, and that in itself isn't wrong. For instance, there might have been 100 magi, not three. The manger might have been a cave. Does it really matter? Santa is the one who is mythical.

Q: What schools offer good communications/marketing programs?
I'm a high school junior looking into schools in Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, or Kentucky. I would like to have a career working with professional sports teams in areas of marketing, communications, event planning, and possibly advertising. I would like to major in communications or marketing, but I'm not sure which schools offer the best programs.

A: You didn't mention New Jersey, However..... Rutgers University, in New Brunswick NJ has ALL of the majors you had mentioned. It has every single program possible because of it's hugeness--and it has SO MANY opportunities for students! The athletic department is closely tied with our marketing, advertising and communications departments. Rutgers is one of the top schools for business (marketing/advertising) and one of the leading schools for communication! I just want to stress the flexibility and opportunities this school offers, it's important to recognize you may really have ALL the options to you here, without ever having to transfer!

Q: Are there any schools that have programs in alternative medicine?
i was really interested in going to school , however i cannot find any that offer programs for this.

A: Are you thinking of something like Bastyr University? They're probably the top of the heap.

Q: Which law schools have the best programs in constitutional law?
I'm planning on applying to law school this fall, and I'm wanting to take alot of courses on con-law. I know obviously the top tier schools like Harvard, Columbia, Yale, etc are all going to have good constitutional law programs but what other schools have good programs, and where could I find a rankings system for particular types of specializations rather than just the best law schools.

A: US news compiles rankings of each law school total, as well as specialties. You would probably have to either pay online for that info, or you can go to a bookstore and thumb through their guide to law schools, they release it every year, and it will have all of that great stuff in it. Really, if you go to any law school you should be able to take classes on con law, other than just the required classes you have to take. Stanford, from what I hear, also is pretty good. If you are looking at con law, is it for civil rights? You can go to a lot of good schools that aren't top 10 and work in the public sector. However, if you have loftier goals like working as a judge, etc, you want to go to one of the top 10 ranked schools. Keep in mind that you can always contact the admissions office for information about classes they offer. I assume you are putting in your applications this fall to start in fall of 2007?? Because if you are applying for this fall, all the spots are likely filled. But if you get your apps in in October in the early admissions period, you have a better chance for getting into the school you want. Keep in mind that you may change your mind about what kind of law you want to get into once you are in law school. You can't even choose your classes the first year, you are taking all required classes. So look into overall qualities of schools, not just the con law program for your decision. Good luck with your applications!!

Q: Why should we cut music programs from the schools?
I have to do a presentation on why music SHOULDN'T be taught in a K-12 setting. I am a music major so obviously I am completely for music in the schools. It has been very difficult to find information for the cutting of music programs. Help! Please! you guys make me happy! i can't imagine school without music! .. seriously this whole presentation has put me in a horrible mood! This topic was chosen for me by my teacher. Stupid, I know.

A: Gosh, why are you taking this side of the issue when you obviously favor the other side of it. The only reason I can think of for eliminating music is the same reason that is being used: MONEY. Music and art are usually the first to go when money gets tight.

Q: What type of programs are usually at high schools?
well, i want to know of various types of programs at some high schools. i need to find this out because my school is trying to add more programs to the already short list of programs.can u list some from your schools and give a description of them..i will gladly give 10 points for whoever can help me out with this. Thanks alot!

A: Well at my school in Canada, i had a bunch of different programs. My favorite was construction-wich was focusing on different aspects every year. ( 9th grade was making small wodden decoration, i made a small little shelf, 10th grade was bigger wodden furniture, i made a retractable stool, 11th was architecture but i built a chair and 12th grade was a coffe table) We also have Tech class(i took it twice in 10th and 11th grade) in 10th grade the class started by working on PhotoPaint(photo editing program) then on to Visual Basic (simple animations) then Macromedia Dreamweaver(websites) and in 11th grade was animations with flash and delphi And that leaves art class, im not much of an artist ( i suck at drawing lol) but i still had alot of fun... Those are all the programs that i took, we have more but i dont know them... Hope this helps you

Q: Should they only teach abstinence only programs in schools and do you feel they are effective?
The Government funds alot of taxpayers $ on abstinance-only program and they leave out important information such as AIDS and std's. In fact, Bush has tripled the their funding and left comprehenseive sex education very little funding and support. This leaves most public schools who have an increase in teenage pregnancy only teach them the abstinence program b/c this is the only thing Bush funds for and this program has shown that is very ineffective and isn't teaching safe sex practices, nor preventing teenage pregnancy. The rise of STD'S AND AIDS among young people is a serious problem and there has got to be something they are not teaching properly in school and among parents aswell. Comprehensive programs talk about the importance of protecting yourself and and also the important personal choice of abstinance.

A: Well, to support your point, how many "OMG COULD I BE PREGNANT" questions from 13 year olds do you see on this site, like every day? I am astonished at the ignorance about STD's and pregnancy that seems to be prevalent among teens. Sure, abstinence is a great idea but being informed couldn't possibly hurt. And might help.

Q: What are the best schools and programs for becoming a certified personal trainer?
Are ther any PT's out there who have tips, advice, or just info for me?

A: I believe as long as you have a bachelor's degree in some type of Kinesiology discipline as well as a really good certification you will be in business! Now some people may disagree with me about a college degree...but if you are competing against someone who does not have a college degree for a job, the person with the college degree AND certification will always get it most of the time. Kinesiology is just an umbrella term that encompasses all of the exercise science fields. But you would be good to get a degree in Exercise Science if possible. Here is a website to help you learn more about certification: http://www.preventdisease.com/news/articles/not_all_trainers_equal.shtml

Q: What schools have good premed programs?
Besides the obvious candidates, what schools have good premed programs? Also, I don't know much about the following schools' premed: University of Virginia, Carnegie Melon, Tufts, NYU.. how are they in general?

A: There isn't really such a thing as a premed program. My school only had this premed "concentration" which just means that for our freshmen seminars, all the premed people were put together so we could go over what courses we should take for med school. You can major in whatever you want to get into med school, you just have to cover the science requirements. Don't limit yourself. Choose a major you can be passionate about, because that's what med schools want to see. As for choosing a school, all the ones you listed are great schools for academics in general, so I would just go with the one you FEEL the best at. Go to the campus if you haven't already, ask questions, trust your guts. Either way, you won't have any disadvantages at any of those schools.

Q: does anyone knows about the magnet programs for schools?
I want to enroll my daughter in an elementary school that has a magnet program, does anyone have any input?

A: -Are you interested in a different curriculum or instructional approach than what your children would have with their zoned public school? -Do you feel your children have needs that would be better met with a Magnet school then their zoned public school? -How do you feel about sending your children to a school outside of your normal school zone? -On that note, how well do you think your child will adjust to a new school? -How do you feel about student diversity? -How do you feel about student achievement? The decision to enroll your child into a Magnet school is not a fast and easy one. Probably the best way to make this decision is to prioritize your goals and focus on them that way. What are your goals? Are they to: -Place my child in a more racially or ethnically diverse student population? -Place my child in a school where academic progress should surpass what he or she would do at their assigned school? -Place my school in a school environment with a specific type of curriculum or teaching methodology? Once you have decided why you want your child in a Magnet school program, it should be easier for you to look at individual Magnet schools and decide which one, if any, are right for your family.
