Q: How do school uniforms effect a persons education?
I can't figure this out!!! I am doing a persuasive essay on school uniforms and i have to do A LOT of research on it. Most of everything i find is pro uniforms for reasons like: gangs or bullies, etc. -any help??
A: I had to wear school uniform every day of my life from when I was four until I was sixteen and I am in favor of them.
I think it's a good thing to have all the kids dressed the same. It builds a sense of community and makes you feel that you belong to the school. It means that kids can't mark themselves as different by having better clothes than each other. Everyone is the same and thus everyone is equal. In my school, we weren't even allowed to have logos on our shoes for sports - they had to be plain white.
It's also a lot simpler than having a dress code. You can't argue about whether it's ok or not - either you're in uniform or you're not.
It also saves time in the mornings, especially for parents who have to take their children to school before starting work. There is no choice of what to wear so therefore there is no messing around trying on six different outfits (especially for teenage girls).
Kids can't think about dressing up for school, which puts you in a frame of mind to do work rather than being on fashion parade and comparing clothes or feeling insecure about being dressed in an "uncool" way.
My school also used the uniforms as a way of fundraising for charity. On a named day we could bring in some money for a charity (or a bottle for the Christmas fair, or something like that) and in exchange not be allowed to wear uniform. One memorable year we sponsored our teachers to come to school wearing our uniforms while we wore our own clothes.
Uniform turns wearing your own clothes into a treat for afternoons and weekends. It even prepares you for life in the real world where you are going to have to wear a suit - another example of clothes being used as a marker between home and school/work life.
There was another advantage for my school which we all hated. All the local schools had uniforms, so if anyone was playing up on the bus or something like that then your school would find out as it would be reported.
The main disadvantage is the cost as uniforms usually have to be bought from a named store. However schools usually stock second hand uniforms for people who can't afford to buy new. Also younger siblings wear hand-me-downs. This can be an advantage though - uniform doesn't go out of fashion.
I hope that helps. Good luck with your essay.
Q: What are your opinions on school uniforms?
In my senior English class we are discussing school uniforms. Besides from all the "good" stuff about having a a uniformed dress code, I wanted to know if there where any such schools that had made this policy and it didn't work. About how much does a school invest to get school uniforms? If your against them, or with them.. why?
A: In our school, the uniform is really strict, we have a blue or grey polo (also red for seniors and green for 8th graders) a skirt that is two inches above the knee, brown or black (no one follows that rule)and monogrammed socks (with the school crest . . . yeah stupid i know) but anyways, no one is ever in uniform, no one EVER wears the socks (btw they are $7 a pair) so they should just get rid of the rule its really stupid.
Q: What is your opinion on school uniforms?
Our school is thinking of getting school uniforms, or is discussing the possibility of getting them. I really think it is wrong because everyone looks the same. We might as well all wear abercrombie if we have to, because a white shirt, and black bottoms is not cute. :( if it happens there goes the thrill of shopping at the mall.
A: I think school uniforms are a good idea.
The first reason is that with uniforms all the students will look better and orderly because it will look like all the students are clean and intelligent persons who are dedicated for their work in class.
The second reason is that buying uniforms costs less that buying jeans and shirts for school and that is a benefit for the parents of the students that can not afford buying alot clothes. Also the students won't have to worry about the clothes that they have to wear to school because they know what to wear. Anyways, school is for learning, not a fashion show.
Third of all, if a student is out of school and the people want to know about what school that the student is going to, then people can know easily if the student is wearing a specific uniform. And uniforms will stop other students by being judged others on how they look.
Q: Sims 2: How do you replace default school uniforms, work uniforms for your sim?
How do you replace the default school uniforms and work uniforms for your sim? I've already tried The Sims 2 NPC Replacer, that only works with the NPCs.
Please help!
A: you have to have the open for business in order to do that.
Q: Is the concept of Uniforms for public school students deemed a state or federal matter?
Im thinking about presenting a bill about public school uniforms to my mock state legislature group, but i need to know if it is up to the state or federal government to determine. Thanks
A: I don't believe its either, its more of a school district issue.
Q: How do you feel about school uniforms?
Are you for or Against school uniform.
I am on the fence with this one.
I do feel the uniforms encourages conformity, it does not encourage individuality.
But also feel it will be expensive for the parents.
A: I am FOR school uniforms. It creates a sense of belonging and give the scholars an opportunity to be proud of their school
The downside of uniforms, is as you say, the costs involved. Bear in mind, though, that the alternative to school uniforms is also expensive. One does expect the scholars to be dressed neatly, cleanly. That means having good quality clothing, which also costs money.
The problems with wearing civvies is that children like to opt for expensive brands, and many cannot afford that. So a uniform solves that problem.
There have been a few schools that have modernised their schooll uniforms. The blazer has been rejected, and the pupils have a choice of 3 different colours of t-shirts and matching pants, shorts or skirts.
This would be the alternative that would appeal to me. Do away with the formal school uniform, and come up with something that is comfortable, yet fairly smart, to wear in South African temperatures.
Q: What are some reasons we should get rid of school uniforms?
i am doing my speech on y we should get rid of school, uniforms even though i don't go to a school with uniforms. in high school i will and im in gr 7. anyways can you give me a couple of strong points on y we should get rid of uniforms, please help me i need help. Thxx
quick i really need answers due tmo...!! :(
STRONG POINTS = 10 points
A: 1. No student induviduality
2. Some cases, actually cost alot of money (in my case!) - have NO use outside of school
3. Has nothing to do with actual acedemics - dressing in uniforms do not improve acedemics
4. no self expression
5. students more comforable in own style of clothing
6. does not break down barrier between social classes in a school - i got to a private school and there wre groups of rich and poor... clothes barely does anything - its the phones, electronics, bragging, and other things that actually create this barrier
7. this is alittle far fetched: saftey! how the heck are parents supossed to recognize their kids in a time of choas when everyone is wearing the same thing
8. TOO much DISIPLINE - you may think that this is never possible b/c in the real world people have to dress a like and have a dress code but school is also a place for people who want to be actors and writer and not be like everyone else - not everyone conforms to the ideas enforced in school and becomes some professional money-maker-by wearing uiforms, it is like taking another step to makeing student conform to everyone elses ideas and not being themselves
9. can even interfere with religious freedome
I HATE UNIFORMS!!
Q: What do middle school volley ball uniforms look like?
Im just wondering because I saw some high school uniforms and I wonder if mines will look like that?
A: the middle school shorts and looser then hig school....and so are the jerseys..they say your number on your front left sholder and back!and you school colors and above the number on the bak is says your school and on the fron it says you school across you chest!
Q: Where online can I buy cheap but nice school uniforms?
I'm in my school's Fall play and my character is in private school. So I need a uniform. All of the costume shops in my city only have those skanky Catholic school uniforms, and I need a legit one.
A: Old Navy may have some stuff left over but I would definitely try JC Penny's... Or maybe even limited too, although that's more for younger girls.
Q: How many people are actually for or against school uniforms?
I'm doing a Theory of Knowledge project on school uniforms. I wanted to know just how many people are pro uniforms and if you all actually beleive that uniforms improve the learning environment.
A: I honestly don't see any problem with uniforms. The type of clothes you wear and how you look should not be how a student expresses themselves-at least not the only way. They should express themselves byopening their mouths in class discussion instead of texting under the desk about what new shoes they will buy at the mall.
When I was in school, I was very poor, and had few clothes. I, and others like me found it difficult to come up with a new outfit each day that would sufficiently allow me to "express" myself. Sadly, few of my outfits allowed me to do this. Thankfully, I was able to come up with another outlet-theatre-and expressed myself through performing at the school musicals.
But how many students are not forced to find this other method of expression, and how many are less successful because of it?
Q: What is a clever title for a editorial against school uniforms?
I have to write one, and i would like a better title then "Why we Should not Have to Wear School Uniforms" :-P
A: Dressing YOUR Best
Q: Can someone help me on a persuasive essay against school uniforms?
I have to write a persuasive essay against school uniforms
<3 body paragraphs>
A: You could also add 'not practical' in wintertime [for girls if they have to wear skirts on Mondays] and also because they can be expensive.
Q: Are school uniforms cheaper than schools with no unifoms?
I am doing debates in school and I am for uniforms. Help!
A: The schools don't pay for uniforms at all. The people who send their kids to school pays for the uniforms. Generally, the total cost for the entire year is less than $500.00, so it is relatively cheaper than paying for the trendiest clothes.
Q: What do you think abuot school uniforms?
My school is thinking to make everyone wear uniforms. They say it helps promote better bahavior, foster a positive learnig environment and improve students outcome. Will uniforms really help?
A: I agree with Class of 67....wait, I am also from the class of 67...hmmmm.
My school has had uniforms for several years. I also attended schools that required uniforms.
When everyone is in uniform it is easy to notice someone who does not belong in the school, so it is a great safety feature.
It is also easy to get dressed in the morning...no difficult choices of what to wear! It also is a great equalizer between the haves and the have nots. Everyone can attend to their studies instead of what someone is wearing. It also keeps the gangs from showing their colors in school and that in itself can help behavior issues.
The issue I have with uniforms is when teachers wear their school shirts and let them hang out when the students are required to have them tucked in or when teachers wear blue jeans on field trips when students are not permitted to do so. Teachers need to be good role models, but some feel the rules aren't meant for them.
However, I think there are more good reasons to wear uniforms than not.
Q: Can School Uniforms be a problem when temperatures increase each year?
When i first wore Uniform to school, it was great but when it was the year 2005, Uniforms started to heat up inside and wasen't normal, by 2007 it was blazing hot and everybody is now complaining that school uniforms should not be mandatory because of the long khaki and black pants that boys and girls have to where and our uniform shirts gets really hot inside. why don't some teachers NEVER have to wear uniform but us? Thats completely unfair.
A: yea, they can. how about you go to administration (or whoever is in charge of the uniform policy) and don't complain so they think you're just whining kids or something, but propose that you have a winter uniform and a fall/spring uniform? thats how it is at the private school i went to. the girls wore navy blue or khaki skirts with white or navy blue knee highs or tights, and we had also had long khaki pants and sweaters. it was like that year round except in the spring and fall, we could wear the school polos or oxfords, and in the winter it was only oxfords. for the boys, the shirt policy was the same, and in the fall/spring they could wear long khaki pants or shorts, and in the winter they could only wear pants.
