This year I'm going to middle school (6th grade). I went just to go get my backpack yesterday and I just wanted to look at my school supply list (they had them in the store) but when I went to go look it only had Elementary school supplies list. A: If you have not received a list in the mail or at an orientation meeting you will get the list on the first day of the term./ There is not such thing as one list per grade since different schools and different teach rs have their own requirements.

Q: Why do teachers give a school supply list before school and then give another one the first day of school?
Both my sons came home from the first day of school telling me that their teachers told them that they needed to get more supplies. The things that they were asking for were not on the first list. Why wouldn't they just put everything that they need on the original list, instead of thinking of something later that they want students to have. I realize that supposidly every town has a Walmart and a Dollar General, thats the story anyways, but not where I live. I dont go by either between my house and work, so I will now have to wait till the weekend to go to the store to get this stuff, when the teacher could have just included it on the first list. Why do teachers do this? When I made a comment on here about thinking it was unfair to parents to automatically expect them to have no problems with their kids having to share school supplies with less fortunate kids, I got blasted about how selfish that was of me. I used my bonus from work to pay for these supplies, so yeah I guess I am a little selfish about my kids having to share them.

A: Because unbeknownst to parents.... they dish out the stuff that YOU bought for YOUR children to OTHER children. My son brought all his supplies to school... a month later.. he came home with a note that said he needed more crayons, scissors, and notebooks.. I called the school FLIPPING mad.. and they told me that they give other children's supplies to those 'less fortunate' and who didn't have them... I said "MY KIDS ARE LESS FORTUNATE.. I had to work overtime to prepare them for school and you're giving it away to other kids" Now I don't want to sound like a selfish bi*ch or anything, but seriously?? Just because my kids come to school with everything on the list does NOT mean that I can afford to keep them and OTHER kids in school supplies.

A: The local Wal-mart carries the supply lists for all local schools. However, if you've tried on-line and called the school, they probably do not have a list. Once you hit middle school, you have more than one teacher and each teacher will give you a list on the first day of that class. On the first day, just bring paper and writing pens/pencils.

What, no laptop too? $125 Canadian! Mommy of Marc, I truly respect the teachers and all that they do, I volunteer in the school and are aware of the issues that the teachers have with a school board's budget. However, how many tools are needed to colour? Neon crayons??? While I can afford these items, I wonder how the families with limited income feel when faced with all this excess! It's setting some kids up to be without, while others scrounge the stores measuring tubs with a tape measure! *Smooch to Vegas!*

A: wow mgnava, you're pretty uppity... perhaps we don't all have 125 bucks to put down for school supplies, along with new clothes, etc. and don't forget, that doubles with each kid. absolutely too much. i'm sorry, but i pay taxes for this stuff. if the teachers aren't getting enough money to pay for supplies, that's definately a problem that needs to be addressed, not put off on parents year after year, who perhaps can't afford it. also, dry eraser markers... who made the decision to put white boards in all these classrooms then make the parents buy the incredibly expensive markers? how much is a box of chalk? a buck?

A: Knowing the amount of paper, pencils, pens, backpacks, notebooks, compasses, protractors, calculators and other supplies you need to have on hand to sell.

There is a school supply commercial where a class is taking a test. A boy asks a neighbor for a pencil, then paper, and then a protractor. As the commercial ends he asks for one final item and his neighbor says no. What is the item? Oops "itrems" should be items. Fingers slipped. I've seen many commercial like this where there is a quick tag line at the end that is not very clear.

I'm not personally familiar with the law, but I can see as I browse legal references that there may indeed be legal requirements under some situations that the government fund school supplies. A: I'd say look for the homepage for your school district or go there and pick one up in person. Seeing as you'll probably buy your stuff at Wal-Mart, you can always get one there.
