I have found the state statistics, but unable to find information on each school district in texas. Thanks for your help

A: Go to the Districts website, or call the Administrative offices, they will be able to give you the info you need. It was my understanding that every child in the state of Texas was on the free lunch program. However I may be wrong. I know that every child in our district is. (Edinburg CISD). Q: Is it legal for a school superintendent to live outside a school district?
I know of a school superintendent that was told he had to move to the school district and he said ok. He refuses to move to district and ask and got a huge raise because he has to commjute to work Is the a law that requires a superintendet to actually live in a school district, or do our community have to keep paying for his gas since it was his 'lie' that got him hired?

A: You can't really create a law for the superintendent to live in his school district, but there can be a "rule" that he does so. Living outside the district might be against the employment rule that the school district has, but he is not going to be put in prison. Yes, you have to keep paying for his gas, as the decision is made, ultimately, by the school board, and not by you.

Q: Can I sue the school district for wrongful placement of students in behavioral facilities?
I was placed in a behavioural facility outside of the school district by my highschool counselor along with several other students who attended with me at the time of placment simply based on that our depression was distracting the other students. I am now 23. i have been out of the district schooling for 3 years, but have lasting effects due to the fact that i was poorly educated by this districts program and was emotionaly scared by the way i was treated along with many other students i have talked to many who have slipped through the cracks in this 3000+ student populated highschool. Our only highschool for the whole district. Who do I sue? Can I sue as a former student? Will having a large petition of students help me at all?

A: There are several things in play here. Regulated by your state and the federal govt. They are and are not in any way a specific order: IDEA Individuals with disabilities act. Section 504 of the ADA and the one that seems to be the one vilolated the most is ALL students are guaranteed a Free Appropriate Public Education in a Least Restrictive Environment, or FAPE and LRE. The best is of course public education at your local high school. They took you out of public school and put you in another institution. There are two reasons to remove a student from the most LRE or public school. One is behavior. Your behavior or misbehavior prevents the teacher from being able to teach the other students. Then the student is put into some form of alternative school. IF and when this does not work the student is then sent home and a teacher will actually come to the home and try to tech them. When this fails then the student is put into another program that most likely includes 24/7 attendance. The other is stundents with some type of mental disabilities and have a lower IQ than the "normal" student population. Then the student is put into "Special Ed" and given their own Indivdual Education Plan or IEP. It may include a high school diploma or a GED or not. It is based on the students individual abilities. So basing what you have experienced I would say you have some solid ground since you were removed due to a treatable disease. Depression is very treatable most often with therapy and medications. I had a bout of depression myself a few years back and finally went to a doctor and got help. Was the curriculum at the school you went to different from the one taught at the high school you were removed from? Do school districts smooch the pooch when it comes to their students? Absolutely! I helped a friend in Minnesota last school year with his daughter. She developed a disease that left her in a wheel chair. She can stumble along with out her chair but it is extremely painful and difficult. According to the ADA and section 504 the school was supposed to make accomodations for her and any other students with needs. Well it was a small district and he tried to work with them but one of the teachers insisted she leave her chair out in the hallway because she did not have room in her class. Also the school bus was not an accessible one and they actually bought two chairs for her. One to leave at the school and the other for home. He fought and fought and finally gave in and called in the ADA. By the time they got through with the school, principal, and teachers there was a new day. A new bus was purchased. The teacher allowed her wheelchair in her room and was very "accomodating" with her. Point is you need contact the ADA and see if they need to intercede on behalf of the students still in their care at this time. Then once you call them then contact an attorney to see if you have any grounds for him to preceed. You may need to do some of the legwork for the attorney so he/she will be more inclined to take the case. The actions of the ADA will help tremendously for your case. But as the other poster said what are you hoping to gain from this? Retribution from what they did to you? Or to prevent them from doing it to others? Many students fall through the cracks because they and their parents are not capable advocates for themselves. This is the reason why these agencies exist. Also your high school experience may have been horrible but you are no longer there. I myself have learned so much since I have gotten out of formal education. The knowledge I have gained just on special ed and individuals with disabilities I have learned just in the last 6 years... I am 44 by the way. I am also a computer nerd with no formal education in that area. I am fairly well versed in linux and server environments. I also worked at a special school for students that are dually diagnosed. A behavioral problem as well as a mental problem. A good portion of those students had what I called environmental disabilities. Their lack of IQ was due to their "home" environment. Parents if they had any had the attitude they did ok without school why should they waste time sending their kids? It is sad... But good luck with whatever you decide...

Q: How do I find out the boundary lines (on a map) of a school district?
I need to find a map of a school district's boundaries. It isn't on the school district's main web page. Help! Is there a website that has this sort of info?

A: It depends on where you live. Most counties have a website that you can go to and pull up the zone maps. Or just go to the cities info center and ask.

Q: How can I apply for open enrollment in another school district?
I want to apply for open enrollment a.s.a.p into Las Virgenes school district. I don't know what to do, though. How can I obtain the intra/inter school district permit?

A: Go to your resident school district's main office and ask to see the School Board policy on interdistrict transfers. Ask for the form they want you to fill out to request an interdistrict transfer, and make sure that your request follows the rules in their policy. If the sending district approves, you then need to ask for permission to enroll in the other district. Typically, the sending district and the receiving district both have to agree, and usually the sending district is the sticking point because they're the ones losing state $$ when you transfer out. Sometimes districts have prior arrangements/agreements for interdistrict transfers, but usually you have to go through the process described above. Best of luck, -s-
