Q: What qualifications do I need to be an English Teacher in a Comprehensive school?
I am currently in college and I would like to become an English teacher at some point in the future, what qualifications would I need to teach English at a Secondary (comprehensive) school?
A: As a teacher myself, I can tell you that, if you wish to teach in a public school, you need a degree and you need to have a standard teaching certificate (or the equivalent issued from an education department in university.) Before you will be allowed to teach English, you will be required to have had at least 24 hours of English courses in university. You will also have to pass a subject test in English, and an exam called the PPR (Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities) exam. This measures your knowledge of pedagogical styles, professional ethics, federal laws covering what you're responsible for as a teacher, et cetera.
The standards for teachers in private and charter schools are much less rigorous. They needn't be degreed, they don't have to have 24 hours of subject-specific credit (let alone be a university graduate), and they don't have to have passed any tests assessing their knowledge of their subject.
Q: What are graduate school comprehensive exams like?
I know that some graduate programs require the completion of a comprehensive exam. What are comps like? I hear about them, but never heard anything about the format or the exams. Are they created by the academic departments, can they be multiple choice, or written. I'm just trying to get an understanding of what comps entail?
I am wondering what happens when a student doesn't pass. I am assuming that they won't receive their degree since it's a part of the program.
A: What the exams consist of varies by university and department, but generally the departments write their own each year, and no, they are not multiple choice. I took the comps a few years ago in my program (physics) and they consisted of 5 hours of tests per day over 3 days testing 4 major subject areas I had taken undergrad and graduate courses on - problems designed to make you not only demonstrate what you remember from the courses but to take it to the next level on most of the questions by interpreting the results in specific situations or show how they relate to other subfields. I spent 4 months solid studying for them. Many people don't manage to pass, despite spending many months studying and passing all the classes. Comps are the most feared part of most graduate programs.
Q: I need details of a cheap radio circuit / kit which works well for children in comprehensive school?
I work as a technician within a design & technology department in a comprehensive school. We currently have a project which involves the children (year 9: 13years old) putting together a radio from components. The problem is that we are having a very low success rate, and those that do work have a very weak reception. In addition to this , the radio is oly A.M.
If anyone can recommend a circuit for an F.M. radio with good reception I would be very grateful. The finished radio must be very cheap (approx $3.00). Casing etc is not an issue as the children design these themselves.

Q: Is Aberdare Girls Comprehensive School closed on the 9th of February?
A: Try contacting your local Council. Lol.
Q: Is it true that an average comprehensive or state school gets £5000 per pupil?
Because at my school, they are now making us pay for printing credits, eg we have to pay £10, and it costs 10p to print one A4 sheet.
Are they allowed to do this? And doesn't that seem a bit expensive seeing the amount of coursework etc that needs to be printed off these days.
All opinions welcome x
A: if an average school got 5000 per pupil then ther wouldnt be any point in private schools i don't have to pay for anything at my school except maybe wood and stuff for technical... education should be free
Q: Being late for secondary / comprehensive / high school in the UK?
I’m writing a fictional book and have a school character that’s late for secondary / comprehensive / high school. It's been 16 years since I was in school. These days, what’s the punishment for being late in school, and how do school kids register as being late? How many times do you have to be late to get a detention? I only need answers in relation to UK schools. Thanks
A: detention. break usually, at my school it was. actually we don't get a punishment anymore xD

Q: What is a comprehensive school
I looked it up on google but it just says it's for all types of people. Can someone please give me a little more detail
A: Well, considering a I attended a comprehensive school before it became an academy I think I can help you:
A comprehensive school is one that will cater for EVERYONE. It will accept and teach anyone regardless of ability, be they thick as wood or a bright spark, and regardless of gender, religion, ethnic background etc.
Q: The best comprehensive school in East London?
A: what do you mean by best? highest GCSE results (probably means has best set of parents who support their children and impossible to get a place unless you live within 500 metres of the gate) best value added (a better guide but not that reliable) best teaching systems? best extra-curricular activities

Q: Private or comprehensive school?
Is it better to save like mad & send your kid to a private school with the hope of giving them a really good start in life, or send them to government school & still go on holiday & buy latest gadgets etc?
A: I'd say save and at the same time try and get them into a comp school. If you can't get them into a comp school put them into a private school.
If you do get them into a comp school, use the money you have saved as a deposit for a buy to let which you can give to your child later.
I am sure it would make it easier to get them on the housing ladder.
Q: When should I start to think about grammar school vs comprehensive?
My daughter is in Year 3. She's bright (all level 3's in last year's SATs), but I'm not sure if she's bright enough to go to grammar school - or even if she'll want to.
What's worrying me is that I know coaching is useful for the kids that take the 11+ - when do I need to start to think about this? (We don't have much money and I'll need to save up for it.)
Should I be asking her teachers now whether they think she'll be capable, or can I chill for another couple of years?
In lots of ways I'd prefer her to go to a comprehensive - but I don't want to disadvantage her either.
We are in Birmingham, UK.
A: Don't waste your money. If she's bright enough she will do well in any school. One word for comprehensives, the social and cultural mix is probably better.
There is so much competition between schools and parents now that it is not healthy for the kids. It doesn't matter whether she gets 6 B grade GCSE passes of 18 A* both will get her to the same uni.
Ask your self this "is my daughter happy?", and then ask yourself how many of the parents of grammar school pupils even ask their child that question.
Q: What comprehensive school or schools did you attend?
do you miss it?
A: Bebington secondary girls, no I dont miss it, I left in 1982! I hated school and could not wait to leave and earn money! I ended up back in college later on though to get the qualifications I should have got years ago!
Q: who was at brampton manor or south west ham comprehensive school in the years before 1970?
A: Try looking it up on Friends Reunited.
