Q: what are the rules and regulation regarding primary schools in Australia?
Is it possible to jump one or two years in primary schools?is there any special school for gifted children?any special primary school in Canberra?
A: yes, it is possible to skip ahead a year or two of school if the teachers think you're able to cope, and if you are gifted. there probly are special schools for gifted children, but many schools would offer special programs for intelligent kids.

If they do, roughly how many english primary schools are there in wales?
English -as in that the first language they teach there.Don't get pro-welsh on me please. Im Welsh first language myself. I just need statistics. I know there are roughly 1300 Welsh primary schools in Wales. I just for research! Thanks
Ok, I'll make it simpler for you to under stand. Sorry, not English schools - Welsh schools that teach English first language. Sorry if I offended you.
Diolch i ti 'Cymro i'r carn', braf cael ateb call am unwaith!
A: There are around 450 - 500 Primary schools in Wales where welsh is the language of the school and English is taught only as a Subject these are most common in, Carmarthenshire, Gwynedd, Ceredigion, Northern Pembroke, Northern Swansea/Western Neath and Portalbot, Western and Northern Powys, Anglesey and Western Clwyd. You also get Welsh medium schools in most big towns in Wales.

Every school in Wales must teach Welsh as a first or a Second language it's a part of the mandatory curiculim
Welsh is treated like English, Maths and Science a core subject

Q: Do primary schools still use the same hymns and assembly songs as they did 25 years ago?
I'm writing something for children and using quotations from the songs I used to sing at primary school (When a Knight Won His Spurs, Give Me Joy in My Heart, When I Needed a Neighbour Were You There, All Things Bright and Beautiful - that type of thing) but am worried these will be lost on them if the song list has been updated.
Can anyone help?
A: I've never even heard of 'when a knight won his spurs' or 'when I needed a neighbour were you there'.
I've have noticed that a lot of the hymns used years ago, 'magic penny', ' joy in my heart', etc etc, are now "wiped out".
A lot of the songs are a lot more modern and upbeat now.
The school I'm at very rarely sings the oldies, though I do have a naughty habit of picking an old song out the song book!
A lot of the songs are based on a general school day, but the songs are written specifically for assemblies (they don't sing chart hits!), one of the songs they sing now is called 'rainy day - wet play', there's another one called 'the school rules song'.
None of them are religious and the religious ones are usually at Easter and Christmas.
I wouldn't include the quotations, you are likely to get blank stares from readers/children.
Adults will know what you're writing about though!
Q: What Alevels do I need to teach at primary schools?
Hi, I have decided I want to become a teacher. I am re-taking Maths and Science but I have 2 B's at GCSE 1 A and and a C. I am taking Alevels next year but I don't know what ones to take that will be good for teaching at primary school level?
HELP
xx
A: There isn't any set A Levels needed to get into primary teaching.
However, if you want to do psychology at university (as an example) you should do A Level psychology.
Same for if you want to do maths at degree level, do it for one of your A Levels.
Having English, Maths & Science are an advantage, but like Louise said, don't do something if you're not too good at the subject as A Levels are extremely difficult, especially if you're not strong in the subject.
Good luck!
Q: My son is going to be starting primary school in 2009 and we are starting to look at schools.?
We want to send him to a Primary School in the Northern Suburbs that has a great reputation.
We want to send him to school in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia.
A: hey thats a really good questions, and research and opinions from other people is a great start.... however, what city/state do you live in?
Q: Non competitive sports in UK primary schools what do you think?
My children are due to start primary school next year and I was amazed to find out that they do not encourage competitive sports.
How on earth are we going to be able to have successful sportspeople without good old fashioned keenness to win?
What do you think?
A: I agree. I have worked in a school through many years and have been astounded at the changes especially to the PE curriculum. A lot of schools adopt a non competitive sports day and teachers will tell you it's a message that all children are winners, and that they do not distinguish between winners and loser, the reality is schools are terrified they may end up with a law suit if a child is injured whilst competing, you would not believe the amount of paperwork., risk assesments, insurance involved in these kind of events that schools simply opt out, and you're right, we end up with a generation of children afraid to take risks, afraid to show a competative streak, unable to express themselves in a physical way. It's bloody depressing!!!
Q: When do they start primary school in UK this year? (I'm talking about Catholic primary schools)?
I thought everyone will start on the 3rd Sept but I read somewhere online recently that Catholic schools may have different start dates? How true is that? I tried contacting my daughter's school these days but no one answers - I think because everyone's off on their summer 6 week holidays. Does your child attend a Catholic primary school in UK and will he/she be starting on 3rd Sept??
My eldest daughter is starting reception this year in a Catholic primary school.
A: Most schools in England go back on 3rd September but it's possible that there are local variations or that a school might have decided to use 3rd September for staff training.
Why not contact your local Child Services and see if they have any information about the particular school you want to know about.

Q: What are the options for primary schools in New Olreans?
My wife and I are considering moving to New Orleans. We don't have kids right now, but are planning to soon. What is the state of the public schools right now? I've read some interesting things about the charter schools. Are they working out? What about private and Catholic schools? Do people often send kids to private schools in New Orleans? If so, how expensive are they? Thank you!
A: Good public education in New Orleans is a challenge. I would not consider and public schools that are part of the public school system - either part of RSD or NOPS, unless they are a charter school with some history of success. That list is fairly short: Lusher, Audubon Charter, Ben Franklin, and few others.
There is an extensive list of private/parochial schools in Orleans Parish with different levels of both academics and reputation. Price ranges as well up to 12K and more per year. However, there are enough of the good schools that one can find the school that is right for them. For sure, do your homework, visit the schools, and plan ahead.
As a disclaimer, I have two children in a charter school and one in Catholic school. I find the education to be challenging in the charter school, at least as so from the Catholic school my kids went to beforehand.
Q: How many planets do primary schools teach about?
What with the whole Pluto not being a planet any more (I agree with that btw), how many planets do schools teach young children about?
If they don't teach Pluto as a planet, are there any new mnemonics for the planet names?
A: Should be 8 now but you still mention the history of Pluto since some kids will be thrown off by the change. I don't know of any new mnemonics but you can probably figure some out and start using them.

Q: Is there a rating for primary schools in Australia? How do we know which school is the best in our area?
Primary Schools Rating
A: http://reviews.independentschools.com/australia/browse.php
http://www.englishforum.com/00/schools/oz/
Both of the above websites are good, but this next one, I think, is the best.

Q: How do you gain experience of vounteering to help kids with their reading in primary schools?
I want to pursue a career in primary teaching and obtain a PGCE in the next couple of years. I work in Central London and wonder how I can gain the necessary experience whilst working full time? Any advice would be great!
A: Do you work during the day? If you work evenings then you can sign up with a local school and help out that way. Often they may just have you go to the library and then they send kids to you that need help.
What about right after school? Many times schools need help with afterschool programs. You help kids after school and they have somewhere safe to be while waiting for their parents to get home from work.
Could you volunteer to work evenings in a library? Speak with the libraries and see if they have a literacy program. You could even just sign up to read a book to children at certain times. This may not be exactly what you are looking for, but it could still count as experience and help you get your foot in the door.
Do you have a friend or relative that needs help? Work with them and then use them as a reference.
