ny schools questions and answers
More information about ny schools at Education News.
Q: If I am a teacher in the Rochester NY school district and reside downtown can my kids attend suburb schools? ?
Someone told me it is possible but I can not find the information anywhere.
A: i know that there are urban suburban programs but I'm not sure which school districts participate in that and some of them do not have high school in the program. i know that there are kids that get teased for being in the urban suburban program.
there are many good public schools in Rochester like School without walls and School of the Arts. and many of the elementary schools are good.
a while back i was looking this up and found the info but cant seem to find it. try calling the district, the principal of the school your kids attend or calling the school you want your kids to attend.
Q: Does anyone know of any good music schools in NY MANHATTAN?
I'm moveing to long island as soon as i find a good high school to go to. i'm looking for a good music school in manhattan. I'm a JR. in highschool i've been playing guitar since i was 11. can anyone tell the names of a couple of good tech schools that are in manhattan.
P.S. It would be helpful if it was a tech school that focus mostly on guitar players. please give me the names of the best music schools!
A: The School for the Performing Arts is located on 100 Amsterdam Avenue near 46th Street in the heart of New York City’s theater district.
Julliard or Laguardia, too.
Q: Anyone know of a website that tells you all the rules of NY public schools?
.
A: no i dont but i no you cant have cell phones there so sorry and public schools dont have a lotta rulez lol
Q: What are the BEST computer engineering schools in NY?
I know RPI is good, but it is pricey. How do others like RIT, NYU-Poly, and Stony Brook stand?
A: The Cooper Union is the best, and if you can get in there, it's free. SUNY Stony Brook and SUNY Binghamton are both good, and they are SUNYs, so relatively inexpensive if you're from NY. RPI is excellent.
RIT is fine, but not in the same league as the ones I've already mentioned. NYU Poly I'd rank below RIT.
If you're willing to look at NJ, Rutgers New Brunswick, Princeton, and Stevens Institute of Tech are all worth looking at for your major.
You can't know how much a school will actually cost you based on its sticker price. While it's a good idea to apply to schools that have a lower sticker price and a good quality program, don't rule out a school you really like, like RPI, because it seems expensive. You won't know the real cost to you until after you're admitted and get their aid offer.
Q: At what temperature will they close schools in western NY?
It is supposed to get down into the negative with wind chills making it feel even colder. At what point do they consider closing the schools? I know they have to consider the kids who walk. You would think I would know the answer since I have lived here all my life, but, hey, I don't!
A: We're supposed to get the same thing. Here it's -20 but they're very strict about it. If it's -19 they'll still run. Even -20. But if it's like -22 solid they'll cancel. It's basically the same everywhere besides "up north north".
Q: What are some good private/public schools located in the East Side of NY?
I really want to move to NY my sophomore or junior year of high school. My parents can't afford the 33,000$ tuition for a private school but I would rather go to a private school than a public school. I have considered financial aid. How much money would financial aid take off the regular tuition price? And I have no relatives in NY that I know of so where would I live or stay? HELP!
A: Will I love New York and ate at this really good place it's called Bubba Gump in times square really good but go for some scholarships and grants and anything you can find to get that schooling
good luck
Q: Boxing schools in upstate NY close to Amsterdam NY area?
i live in upstate ny i was wondering if anyone knows about any really good boxing schools near Amsterdam ny? A real liget one.
A: Well, I don't know of any but if you can't find one, you should get yourself a Slam Man.
It's a human shaped electronic punching bag with targets that light up which tell you where to punch.
It's better than an ordinary punching bag as it can provide combinations for you and it's much better for motivation because it's more fun. It basically acts as your very own boxing trainer.
I've got one of my own and it comes with gloves and an instructional DVD in the basics. A human shaped target provides a more realistic training regime as well.

Q: What good acting schools are there in Manhattan, NY?
I was curious to ask what good acting schools are there in Manhattan, NY. I'm thinking about attending to get more experience in that field. But if anyone knows of any please I need the advice..thanks!
A: NYFA, has 2 locations in Manhattan, at Dalton School, and at Tammany Hall (Union Square).
Q: How can NY State schools send kids to high shcool but not enough credits to graduate?
I have a neice in tears because her school did not give her the history and english she needed instead gave he agriculture, also I have since found others who had the same problem, how could this happen?
A: Is this the end of her senior year?
Cause if it is, too late.
If it isn't, it is an easy fix. When the NEW school year begins, she will have to go to her school counselor, sit him/her down and have an adult conversation over what she NEEDS and what THEY need to fix.
Schools sometimes do that, and it IS fixable. Unless this is her graduating year. She should have said something MUCH sooner.
Q: Does anyone know any good dance/acting high schools in NY?
A: La Guardia
Q: Is there still time for transfering schools in NY?
I just finishes graduating junior high and Im going to highschool now.The highschool Im going to is Fordham highschool of the arts though....Is there still time to transfer to another school and how?
A: There should still be time - schools starts Sept 5th for NYC schools. Check out the web site below to find out what school choices you have. You must be doing pretty well to have been accepted at the arts school. You could also call your junior high and speak with one of the counselors. They will know more about how to transfer. They are probably back to work now.
Good luck & asking is the first step towards wisdom.
