Q: We are looking to move to Toronto, Canada from NJ. Schools info pls?
My son is in the 7th grade and I would like to know if the schools in Toronta follow the same system as the schools in Edison, NJ. Also would like to know if Toronto is a good school district. If there is a website that compares school rating that will be much appreciated.

A: Hi, I lived most of my life in NJ (Moorestown). The school systems are easily comparable in terms of curriculum, though I have to say that on average, Toronto schools are better than (on average) those in NJ. The school systems up here do not rely on property taxes to fund them. If possible, send your son to one of the many, excellent private schools (non-sectarian) in the Toronto area. They are MUCH cheaper than private schools in NJ. Aside from the cold and lack of the shore, I think you will like Toronto more than Edison. Good luck!

Q: Do I need a master's degree to become a school psychologist in NJ?
I've read conflicting information online about what I need to get my standard certificate to become a school psychologist in NJ. A few sites say that a master's is not required in some states - NJ included. Others say otherwise. Any NJ school psychologist out there?

A: To get the NJ certificate, you need a master's degree. Whether or not an individual school in NJ requires the certificate for employment as a school psychologist is probably the school's own decision. If there is a shortage of certified school psychologists, the school might skimp on the certificate as a job requirement. I would check school psychologist job descriptions in your area and see if they require the certification. So to answer your question, no, you do not need a master's to become a school psychologist, but you do need one to be a licensed school psychologist, which is probably the better route to take.

Q: Moving from NJ to South Florida: looking for the best area for schools, community and young families?
My wife and I are looking to move from central NJ to south florida. Of these cities which would be best for 33 yo parents with a baby in terms of: school systems, crime rates, nice friendly communities, not too congested (traffic), near the beach, affordable newer homes (300,000-425,000)? - Sarasota, Osprey, North Port, Ft. Myers, Naples, Jupiter, Tampa/Clearwater?? Any other suggestions? THANKS

A: I live in Naples and can't wait to get out...born here and ready for a change..if you live near the water your insurance will be aprox $5k taxes are thru the roof...lots and lots of foreclosures...and nothing to do..not much crime but I am soo bored here and I was born here...ixnay on ft myers..awful....tampa lots of crime..miami more crime..unless your gay or cuban you wont fit in..sarasota seems your best bet or up near the pan handle....look up zipskinny.com its a great sight for demographics...good luck..you can buy my house btw your best bet is to stay in each town for a week and just check it out..thats what I intend to do...naples and sarasota are ok...but insurance from hurricanes will kill you...unless you rent..

Q: What are some good schools in NJ to get my 4 year degree in foods and nutrition?

A: I'm not from NJ but I'd say: Check out Princeton or Rutgers first... If you live close to Philly try UPenn or Temple. If those aren't what you were looking for apply to a state school in NJ. They should offer those majors.
