Q: How could I find out the names of my old classmates from junior school, waaay back in 1982?
I went to St. Helen's RC Junior School in Brentwood, Essex, UK and I'd love to see what some of em are up to these days. I've tried Friends Reunited but now I'm hitting a dead end.
Any suggestions?
I need stuff I can use in England, btw, not USA, as we have a different schooling system here!
A: Try these
Q: What are some good books that have depth for a high school junior?
OK
So I am a high school junior and I am desperately seeking a good book that has more depth than "Twilight" or any of those other useless "teen" books. I'm tired of all the unfulfilling books I'm reading. I want to prepare for college and read books that are satisfying, and have depth and meaning. I am currently going to read The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath and a book by Chuck Palahniuk, but if there are any more suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
A: Well, kudos to you on trying to broaden your reading horizons! They only book that I have read recently in the teen genre that offered up anything interesting or different as far as perspective goes is "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky. It was truly a great read. Here is a list of some other great books that you may want to check out:
"Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Aspergers" by John Elder Robison
"Running with Scissors" by Augusten Burroughs
Anything by Jodi Picoult, particularly "My Sister's Keeper" or "Nineteen Minutes"
"The Alchemist" by Paolo Coehlo
"Haunted" by Chuck Palahniuk
"Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck
"The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien
Those are just a few books that I have recently enjoyed. Happy Reading!
Q: What should a high school junior do during the summer to make it counts?
As a junior this year (being senior next year), what should I do during the summer that will improve my transcript or just anything I won't be able to do anymore? Should I participate in summer schools abroad? Or maybe university summer classes? Or travel?
Need suggestions, thanks!
A: Try to get a job or internship working in a field you might want to pursue, or that serves the community (ie lifeguard, camp counselor). Those show initiative, job experience, interest in the community, direction, etc.
Q: Why does the British use infant school, junior school etc?
Why do they have different names? Why don't they just call it a Kindergarten instead of infant school? Why don't they call it an elementary school instead of junior school? Why do they have to be so confusing?
So how come the British use infant school instead of Kindergarten? If Kindergarten is part of the British system, why don't they use it instead of using another term to make it all confusing? It's completely unreasonable to use infant school when they can just use Kindergarten. I just wanted to know why they chose infant school. Is it because they want to be unique?
In other countries, such as Taiwan they call it an elementary school. They use it the same way as America. Many countries use elementary school and Kindergarten. It's just the British who refuse to use Kindergarten and elementary school, which I don't understand why.
A: You do realise the British system predates yours - which uses a jumble of German and ENGLISH language terms. Have a think before criticising the nation whos tongue you continue to devolve.
BTW it is different in Scotland.
Primary school 5 - 11
High (or Secondary) School 12 - 17
ages are approx , depending on when your birthday falls
Q: What can I do in Junior High school and High school to get into Westpoint?
I am just entering Junior High and i want to go to Westpoint.
What can I do in my following schools to go into Westpoint?
A: -Maintain a good GPA
-Score well on tests like the SAT and ACT
-Get involved with programs like JROTC if the high school has it
-Participate it various clubs
-Demonstarte leadership abilities, such as student government
-Try to get the help of a congressman, etc.
-Programs that stress good values, such as BSA are nice
-A sport is always a plus because it shows leadership and academic prowess
-Community service
-Take academically challenging classes and programs like IB are huge plusses if you're high school offers it (however, don't sacrafice a good GPA for this reason)
-Be involved with the military and show you support it
-If you do something like a sport, etc. stick with it if you can to present your commitment
-Get a job, preferably something "official". (My city hires at 15 and a half. I've had my job since that age and now I can say I work for the municpal government; look into those kinds of positions)
-Get positive recommendations from "quality" references (i.e. a retired Army officer, congressman, etc. Letters from say, your teachers, are nice, but aren't very "unique)
-Try, try, try and if you really want to be an Army officer, look into programs such as ROTC in college, just in case you don't get accpeted to Westpoint.
Q: Why sometimes do junior high school students refused to talk with their parents?
I have a little brother who is a junior high school student. But recently, he refused to talk with his parents and was out all day with his classmates. According to me ,he is very easying-going when he stays with his classmates. How can I help him? Sometimes I think it's the adolescence. But he has no any excuses for not talking with his mom or dad.
A: I can attest to this, seeing as I'm sort of in this stage.
I'm not quite sure if I'm like your brother, but there's really this feeling of rebellion. It's just that at times, I feel that my parents can't understand me at all. They just blabber on about what I do wrong, and I feel that they're not looking at my good sides. Most of the time, I feel that my friends can relate to my problems more, seeing as they're of my age. Something like having this weird and uneasy feeling towards your parents, this feeling of doubt. Maybe he just doesn't find your parents close to his heart, and he finds his friends more fun to be with.
Just a friendly advice, don't ask his parents to do the usual thing that they do. The "talk to change him" thing. See, it makes me more "rebellious" when my parents do this long cheesy talks, and I really don't appreciate it that much. As I said, I'm not sure if your brother stands in the same position as mine, so I'm not too certain. You, as his brother, can probably approach him more openly. I actually find it easier to talk to my sister, so maybe he'll find you easier to open up to.
This is quite true to most teenagers, it's part of growing up. The best way to cope with this is to just leave them be, or talk to them casually. Lecturing them will worsen things up. They'll learn to appreciate the companionship of their families once they reach college or work.

Q: What type of clothes are acceptable for a Junior school? Work experience..?
Hiia..!
I have work experience next week in a Junior school. We have been told to wear smart clothing.
I don't know what would be classed as appropriate, I want to make good impression on my first day, and the rest of the week of course. However I don't want to be boiling as it is getting hotter around here now, although judging by the weather this week it will be unpredictable :(
Any ideas..? Teachers preferably :)
Thank you x
A: No jeans!
Wear either black trousers or a black pencil skirt - not too short either, shortest length should be knee length.
You can usually wear any top - providing it is suitable, for example, not a skimpy vest top.

Q: How difficult is it to complete and graduate high school after junior year when you are already a sophmore?
I am currently a high school sophmore and am interested in attempting to graduate after junior year. How difficult would this feat be? Is it realistic? Thanks in advance!
A: You just have to take all the classes that a state requires to graduate, i have a friend that did that, he just took all the classes need to graduate . . . . It would had been better if you thought to graduated Junior year when you were a freshman, that way you would have take all the required for freshman and sophomore at the same time . . .
Q: What should I do I keep having dreams about a guy I knew in junior high school?
Okay Im 24 and I used to have a crush on this guy in junior high school and we keep in touch via myspace and facebook but now all of a sudden I'm having dreams about him and in them we are in a relationship and these dream won't go away does this mean anything and what should I do?
A: i sometimes write down what i dream about to try to figure it out.
It's pretty evident with you though.
if he is single you should probably pursue what is in your dreams.
Q: What classes would you like to have available in High School or Junior High?
What subjects or courses do you wish were available ( for you or your children) in Junior High and or High School? Are these Courses available? Why do you wish they were? What courses were available when you were in school?
A: Well I'm still in highschool (a junior) and I think we have a lot of courses to choose from. The only thing I would have liked is for my school to have my Macro & Micro-economics.
Q: I start my junior school year in 3 weeks, what's the fastest way I can lose weight?
I excersize now and eat healthy.
Are there any quick diets you've tried that have proven successful? I need to encorporate meat into it though because I'm anemic.
Thanks! I need all the the advice I can get.
I have about 10-15 or so lbs. to lose.
A: OK if you want to just drop some weight, go a couple days with only fruits, vegetables, and some protein. Then start eating again small portions. Do all this while constantly exercising and going in the sauna and steam room. It will be painful, and you will be miserable, but at least you'll have a nice body to show for it.
