Q: How many schools for the deaf in the US use BiBi?
I know Indiana School for the Deaf, Ohio SD, and Maryland SD all use BiBi, but does anyone have a specific number?

A: I've had the opportunity to do research in about 5 schools for the deaf throughout the US as well as do an internship in about two schools. There is a BIG difference in what a school claims to do vs what is school actually DOES. I remember at one school for the deaf the language policy was Bi/Bi with the main mode of communication being ASL. The policy was posted throughout the school - the reality however?? Only the deaf teachers used anything closely resembling ASL. Most of the hearing teachers, especially the older ones still used total communication. They even had an older teacher there that was hired when the school was primarily oral back in the 60's and her signing skills were pathetic. I have visited the Indiana School and would say that school was about as Bi/Bi as you can get for a state school for the deaf. The hearing teachers seemed to be just as fluent as the deaf teachers and you never heard a teacher using their voice while walking through the hallways. The Ohio School for the Deaf may be Bi/Bi in theory but not in practice. They have too many hearing teachers that use TC. The schools that use primarily Bi/Bi instruction are the smaller charter schools like the Rocky Mountain School for the Deaf in Colorado or the Metro School in Minn. There is a difference between the number of schools that claim to use Bi/Bi and the number of schools that actually do use Bi/Bi. See this site for a list of charter schools for the deaf that follow the Bi/Bi method: http://deafness.about.com/cs/schooling/a/charterschools.htm

Q: does anyone know of any medical sonographer school in indiana?
i am planning on going to school for medical sonographer a.k.a ultrasound technician and i live in northwest indiana. does anyone know of any good accredited colleges or universities that offer that program because i would like to start school by january if not than next august and would just like the information and names of schools that way i can begin researching and calling places. also if you would like to share anymore information regarding medical sonographer i would look forward to hearing anything about it. thanks in advance, llok forward to hearing from yous

A: The website listed below has all the accredited ultrasound programs, listed by state. There are none in Indiana. You can search for other states near you for programs, by going to the site below. Search "diagnostic medical sonography" and whichever state you wish. Don't waste your time or money on a NON-accredited program. After completion of such program, you must work a full year in the field or ultrasound before you can take your licensing exams. Problem is.....you will have a hard time getting that job without a license. Best wishes.... http://www.caahep.org/Find_An_Accredited_Program.aspx

Q: Do i need to drop out of high school before i can begin home schooling in Indiana?
I'm 17 and want to begin home schooling. I've already got my mom to agree but I read somewhere that if I'm not 18 I need to drop out of high school before I can begin home schooling. In the state of Indiana, do I need to drop out before I begin? If I need to drop out won't that look bad on my college app.?

A: Hi We were a home schooling family in Indiana (my son graduated last year) What you need to do is to register with the state of Indiana as a home school. Then you go to your school and withdraw. They will tell you it isn't legal, but that is because they will loose the $20.00 per day per student the school recieves for each day you are in class. Most colleges are most willing to accept home schoolers, as they usually score very well on entrance exams. At 16 my son was accepted into several colleges. It is hard work and takes a lot of diciplin to home school, but you can be successful if you work hard.

Q: When a student is expelled from an Indiana Public school are they able to enroll at Indiana Virtual Academy?
We are having trouble finding a place to continue our sons education due to a 2 semester expulsion. It seems everyone involved (therapist, DFC, and personal friends and family) ,besides the school corporation feels he needs to stay enrolled in a school. We don't have access to private schools that aren't "cruise through' schools and this is actually a good kid. Any suggestions because he'll be a 17 year old freshman.
