Q: What do high school students learn about physics at school?
Well, I'm learning English and have the intention of going to the UK to study physics. I'm currently at high school in China. Would you guys please tell me what high school students learn about physics in the UK? I've already learnt Newton's laws of motion, circular motion, conservation of energy, impulse, conservation of linear momentum and the stuff connected with electromagnetic field and some related calculations. And I wonder what else I need to learn before I become ready for university study.

A: Probably the best links for you are these (for an up and coming uni student): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Relativity (Note that general relativity is taught in 2nd year) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_clock The main issue you learn in electro-magnetics is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_field You also recap on the newtonian physics and other conventional physics. Q: How important is high school on a college transfer application?
In high school I did a solid but kind of pedestrian job. Since I've been in college I've been doing really well; I've got a 3.8 GPA, a hard schedule, and three really good extracurriculars. I recently applied to my reach school. I'm not asking whether I'll get in or not, but how important is college performance relative to high school performance to undergrad admissions?

A: high school really does not matter any more

Q: Im a high school student who wants to do aviation as a career. What should I do?
1 year until I graduate from high school, and yet I haven't done anything. I don't know if I'm suppose to go to a specific school, college, or flight school. . . Real pilots plz....

A: RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!!. If you want to be a pilot go to www.aopa.org and www.faa.gov. Start learning what you need to do in order to qualify for a 3RD CLASS MEDICAL. If you qualify for that then start digging into the text books because there is LOTS of stuff to learn. My guidance counselors offered me D-CK about aviation as a career. You will have to find a 'mentor' to really chart out your path. Find a school that will meet your needs as well. You can go to almost any airport with an FBO (fixed base operator) and learn to fly. Universities are usually affiliated with businesses and connections to get you internships and employment more easily. I cannot speak of strictly flight universities.

Q: What high school classes should I take to prepare for music therapy?
I am a sophmore in high school and my school is about to go onto 7 period schedules. Yet the only additional electives I have taken is Spanish. That means I have my junior and senior years and with my academics and band, I only have two periods left to decide my classes. I plan on taking classes online over summer, but what classes should I take if I want to get into a college offering music therapy degrees? There are only two in my state (my parents don't want me going out of state. Any suggestions?

A: You definitely need to take music. Check online to determine what courses the college you choose will want you take to get the music therapy degree. See if any courses offered at your high school would be precursors to the ones you will take while attending college. Better yet set up a visitation to the college you want to attend and meet with the councilors there. Good luck to you.

Q: What are the laws reguarding high school students and W2 forms?
I think that my job is cheating me. I am a full time high school student and according to NYS law if you are a full time high school student I should put exempt and these people are saying I'm not eligible for it. So now they're taking out income tax out of my pay check as well as federal and state tax. I should not be paying both taxes and income tax as a high school student. How can I find out what the law is so I can bring it to their faces and tell them a thing or two. Because I am not going to stand for this. Judy...shut up I'm angry. I know that there are some taxes I can't get out of such as medicare and state as well as social security, but income and federal tax should not be in there. It says on the W2 that if you are a full time student put exempt. My sister did that and she is exempt from federal and income. By the way I earm minimum wage and work two days out of the week. What the hell? And the income and federal tax is what's really doing the most damage to my pay check.

A: The W-4 is a FEDERAL form. NY law DOES NOT APPLY. For STATE taxes, you may be exempt. I don't know NY law. Under FEDERAL law, you can only claim exempt if you had ZERO tax liability last year and expect to have ZERO tax liability this year. That is NOT the same as getting a refund. If the IRS keeps ANY of your withholding, you had a tax liability. The ONLY way being in high school matters is that you are probably considered a dependent of you parents. That actually REDUCES the income level at which you have a tax liability.

Q: How much do high school administrators get paid a year and is it hard to get hired?
For example, high school counselors, deans, principals. I tried websites but they did not help. And what does it really take to get hired by a high school?

A: all require a masters degree in education

Q: How important is high school physics for a bio major in college?
I want a biology major in college but I don't want to take physics in my senior year of high school. Will it make a difference if I don't take physics in high school?

A: high school physics are useful for math and engineering majors. furthermore, it is interesting. i loved it so much i took physics 2. i am going into neuroscience, which is centered in biology. it will look good to a college because physics is challenging. but if you dont want it, then dont take it, cause you dont really need it for biology. =)

Q: Why does the High School and college footballs and field goal posts look different then the NFL?
High School has full striped footballs. College has half striped footballs, and the NFL has no stripes on the football. The field goal posts at college and high school are shaped like an "H" while the NFL posts are not shaped like an "H".

A: the highschools that i know have field goal posts that look like the NFLs

Q: How important is participation in sports in high school for college admission?
I have never participated in high school sports and I've always wanted to do track and cross country but never got the chance to. Although, I am attending this high school in college program where I attend community college and receive both high school and college credits at the same time but I can still join high school activities. Is it even worth it? Or do other things such as community service and jobs too as important to them?

A: The purpose of extracurricular involvement is so that colleges can evaluate your committment, teamwork (common goal), and general involvement in your school community. These factors can easily be transferred to the college community, which is what the colleges want. If you are not athletically oriented, then try being a manager or stats person or join clubs/groups at your school. Volunteering is demonstrating your character in a larger community, like your town, state or nation. Try to demonstrate both extracurricular and volunteering. I am a school counselor and have worked with hundreds of students and parents. The same questions about how to find the right college or plan for college keep coming up. I decided to set up some online classes (self paced) to answer many of your questions and activities to help in the process. My site is located at globalscholar.com and type in my name "Kerrie."

Q: What are the high school requirements to get into a Performing Arts school for dance?
What are the high school requirements to get into a school where you want to take dance as your major?

A: My daughter is preparing to go to Julliard and the requirements are strict regarding performance... you only have two opportunities to audition..you have to do two dances one in the classical ballet style one that incorporates modern styles. All dances have to incorporate certain techniques and elements. You need letters of recommendation from you teachers, photographs, not head shots but in required poses. Academic requirements are less strict but they still require a high school diploma or GED also SATs
