Q: What are the good elementary schools in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia?
I am trying to find the best area for our family to move to in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, so which elementary schools are the best and which are the worst in the following cities: Chesapeake Portsmouth Suffolk Newport News Please help, I am trying to find out as much as I can before we move in two weeks! Thanks in advance for your help! I am in Florida, so I can't drive around or visit the schools, I am sort of flying blind here, trying to find a school on the internet. We have to stay in one of the 4 cities I mentioned, because those are close enough to my husband's work without the trouble of tunnel commuting (like with Norfolk or Virginia Beach).

A: Try asking a student for advice. http://www.elementaryschoolratings.com/Virginia-Elementary-Schools.html

Q: We are planning to move to Leander, TX. Can you give me some specifics on the different elementary schools?
I grew up in a town with ONE elementary schools so I am blown away by how many schools are in Leander! :) Would love to know what schools you recommend so I can narrow my search for homes. Hoping for smaller class sizes and nice teachers. Just want the kids to be happy! Thanks in advance for any help you can give! The more specifics the better.

A: Check the test scores of individual schools at the Texas Dept. of Ed. website. Find out where teachers send their kids; it is not always where they work. Visit the schools. Nothing is better than seeing with your own two eyes what the school climate is. Good Luck!

Q: What are the best elementary schools in Windsor or it's suburbs? or even the best neighborhoods/sub for famil?
I will be relocating with my two young children and want to enroll in the best elementary school(s). I saw that Bellewood was the only rated school in Windsor from the Frazer Institute. Any help woould be really appreciated.

A: Bellewood is a very, very good school. Two of my older sister's young children (4, 5) attend that school and say it is very nice. I attend Our Lady of Mount Caramel Catholic school. I must say, it's a pretty good school. Holy cross (In LaSalle) Is also very good...they are also very wealthy so there is lots on funding for events. Southwood lakes is a big neighbourhood in Windsor, but fi you hear about it, I do not reccomend moving there. I have heard about many series of theft, and other crimes going around there. My friend's grandmother, who lives there, has a had her window shattered with a brick and then had her valuables stolen. Roseland Golf Course is a wonderful neighbourhood. It's very peaceful and quiet and you would have a nice, big yard onside of the golf course for your children to live and play. I hope I helped.

Q: Do you think that the fact that the majority of teachers, especially in elementary schools are female is a fa?
Do you think that the fact that the majority of teachers, especially in elementary schools are female is a factor that might influence the educational experiences of girls and boys?

A: Frankly, yes. It used to be that a majority of teachers were men, the pendulum has swung so that a majority are now women. Far too many kids never have a good male role model... just sports stars and actors... dubious choices at times. My husband started his career as a kindergarten teacher. The kids craved his attention and were well behaved for him. Now he works in a correctional setting, and I still see his " students" being more cooperative with him. They tend to try to manipulate the female teachers. Of course, I am sure they try to manipulate men ,too, but they seem to be more successful at taking advantage of women. We have far too few male teachers in this country. When I went through school, I had only three male teachers grades K-12. Now days, we have a few more male teachers in our middle school and high school, but maybe not enough. Definitely, we can use more in the elementary school for role modeling and to help provide balance and perspective. Low starting salaries seem to be one reason that we don't have more men as teachers. Our district starts teachers out at $22,000. Frankly, they can make more at the local factory or in construction.

I live in central NC and have been wanting for years to go see a local elementary school christmas play. I'm not yet a parent (TTC), so I don't know how to find out; they don't seem to publicize them. I used to be in these kinds of plays when I was little and I thought it would be really fun to go see one of these. Any suggestions on where to look/how to find out?

Hi~ As a meaningful way of learning English, I'd like to study science in English. I'm way far beyond elementary level in my native language (Korean) but I think elementary school upper graders' level science book and, if any, related CD-Rom will be suitable for me. Would you recommend one? Thanks for your reply in advance.
